Midnight Masses Debut Album Departures out Now & Band Launches Short Film Now Here Is Nowhere

Midnight Masses, the band of Autry Fulbright (accompanied by Jason Reece) from ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, released their debut album Departures this week and to celebrate that, they've also released a short film entitled Now Here is Nowhere that was written by Fulbright and directed and produced by Natasha Kermani. The film stars Jaleel Bunton (TV On the Radio) who also contributed to the debut album and Walter Schreifels (Quicksand, Rival Schools, Gorilla Biscuits). All the music in the film is by Autry Fulbright, performed by Midnight Masses, including several tracks from the debut EP and album as well as exclusive material. This is the first installment of a series of films Fulbright plans to release and you can watch it below:

When asked about the film, Fulbright said...

"Now Here Is Nowhere is a visual counterpart to music I've been making as Midnight Masses for the past few years. It's a loose narrative about mythical religious figures (angels and demos as modern day poets) using mind-expanding substances as they stand on the brink of an existential apocalypse, and the continuous nomadic journey of artistic thought."

The band also recently released the video for the track "Broken Mirror" where Autry is joined on vocals by Dirty Projector's Haley Dekle and was premiered by Stereogum. Watch HERE: STEREOGUM Premiere "Broken Mirror"

If you missed it the first time around, the AV Club premiered "Am I A Nomad?" and you can listen to it HERE: AV Club Premiere "Am I A Nomad?"

Midnight Masses was started in the spring of 2008 by Autry Fulbright and Jason Reece shortly after the death of Autry's father. The sudden loss compelled him to seek solace through music and travel with his friends. One of his friends was Gerard Smith of TV On the Radio who had recently begun documenting various Brooklyn musicians in his home studio. Midnight Masses quickly grew from a bedroom project to a multi-media collective with a revolving cast of musicians, filmmakers, and visual artists with Jason Reece contributing when not occupied with ...And You Will Know Us by The Trail of Dead.
