Drum Icon Carmine Appice and 60's Hitmaker Dean Parrish To Release New Digital Only EP “Northern Soul”

Los Angeles - Legendary drummer Carmine Appice and New York 60's hitmaker, vocalist Dean Parrish have reunited after 50 years to record a new 7 song EP of 60's soul music, commonly known as Northern Soul music. Aptly titled "Northern Soul - I'm On My Way", the EP will be released on iTunes in August 2015. The duo first met when in the early 60's they played opposite of Jimi Hendrix, known at the time as Jimmy James. The band, called The BEEETS, played Stax, Motown and Altantic 60's soul. Carmine eventually went on to have major success with the likes of the Vanilla Fudge, Cactus, Beck, Bogert & Appice, Rod Stewart and countless other artists, while Dean pursued a solo career and had a number of hits in the UK and US. He did several Murry The K tours and performed on the Dick Clark show and other well know TV programs at the time such as Zachary Channel 11 NYC, and the Clay Cole show. Dean has performed on the same bill as Mitch Ryder, The Capitals and Lou Christie. He has recorded and toured with the likes of Jorge Santana, Paul Weller, Lord Large and the legendary Bob Marley. Dean even recorded 2 Jams with Jimi Hendrix & Eddie Kramer at Juggy  Murray's  studio NYC 1969 with the band the Rosicrucians aka Steeplechase. In the 2000's Dean was featured in a wedding scene as the Mcee on the hit show the Sopranos.

Says Carmine, "While Dean was doing those Murry the K shows and having hit singles. I was having my career with Vanilla Fudge having hit albums at around the same time....There was always a connection with me and Dean. I hooked him up with my Vanilla Fudge manager Phil Basile, and in turn Phil got two album deals for Dean with band members who were also friends of mine and dean's from 60s....it was after that that Dean cut 'I'm On My Way', which became a big hit ...but over the years me and Dean stayed in contact."

Then in the early 2000s, Carmine and Dean reconnected again through a mutual friend Randy Pratt, harpist for Cactus and bassist for The Lizards (who have a new CD released) and Rickity. The duo began writing and recording at Randy's studio in New York, which was the start of the "Northern Soul" release. Carmine and Dean had songs they wrote and recorded in the 60's and rehashed them into what's being released today....so this EP was destined to be finished. It features re-recorded versions of the big hit "I'm On My Way", a karaoke version, a classic mix of the song as it was in 1970's, and a modern version along with new RnB classics such as "Love's Whatcha Cooking Babe", "Fever" and "Lonely", all really cool old school RnB, with an old school vibe but recorded with today's sonic sound.

Says Dean, "Singing and playing guitar on this EP with Carmine was a labor of love, a feeling of togetherness that just comes with Northern Soul Music. This movement is still is very much alive today more than ever with a passion a kind of music that takes hold of you."

Says Carmine, "Some of my favorite music was the 60's RnB and the songs on this EP with Dean singing are exactly that, 60's RNB or today known as Northern Soul. Back in the early 1960's before Vanilla Fudge, I played with Dean in a 7 piece RnB group. Dean was always great at singing this music and I and glad to being playing that music with Dean again. I enjoyed putting this music together with him!"

Darkyra Black New Album

TAD MOROSE to Kick Off Europan Tour in September in Support of New Album "St. Demonius"

Swedish heavy/power metal veterans, Tad Morose will embark on a European tour this September, in support of their new album titled "St. Demonius." They will be joined by their fellow countrymen in Silent Call.

Tad Morose have been part of the heavy metal scene for over 20 years, and so far time they released seven studio albums. Their newest, eighth offering, "St. Demonius" is scheduled for the August 28th release via Despotz Records. The new album is the second release in a row featuring ex-Steel Attack singer Ronny Hemlin, after the release of 2013's "Revenant." The band released two video singles from "St. Demonius" (see below), and are ready to launch a new song titled "Black Fire Rising" on August 12th.

In an interview with metalshockfindland.com, guitarist Christer "Krunt" Andersson said about the new album following: "It's Tad Morose kind of metal, a little bit more of everything I think. A lot of the lyrics are about the crap that's going around in today's world, people never ever seem to learn from history. And all the religious bullshit that's going on, why can't people just sit back, shut up, play heavy metal, drink beer, smile and have a good time? Let everyone believe in whatever they believe, as long as they don't hurt anybody. That's a lot of the things going on in the lyrics."

For the upcoming dates, Tad Morose will be joined by Silent Call, a melodic progressive metal band featuring singer Göran Nyström, who are currently working on their fourth studio album. The complete tour dates are shown on the poster below.

PIONEERING GUITARIST AND BANDLEADER JOHN MCLAUGHLIN TO RELEASE BLACK LIGHT SEPTEMBER 21ST

Album Features McLaughlin's virtuoso 4th Dimension band
World Tour To Follow Album Release

"Playing and working with the same musicians in a band is a living process which unfolds as time goes by," reflects guitarist, composer, and bandleader John McLaughlin when considering the release of his latest album, Black Light  – the third studio album to feature his band, the 4th Dimension.  Available via Abstract Logix on September 21, 2015, Black Light finds the relentlessly inquisitive, exploratory McLaughlin continuing to uncover new melodic and rhythmic pathways with the same fearless zeal that has made him one of modern music's most admired and influential figures.

Black Light includes 8 original McLaughlin compositions, but the emotional core of Black Light, and one of McLaughlin's finest acoustic performances on record, rests in "El Hombre Que Sabia" – a deeply moving tribute McLaughlin's late collaborator, Paco de Lucía, who passed away in early 2014. "You cannot imagine how much I miss him," reflects McLaughlin. "'El Hombre' is one of the pieces Paco and I had planned to record on a new studio album last year."  The two had intended to compose an album's worth of new material just before De Lucia's untimely passing.

Otherwise electric, Black Light features the 4th Dimension – drummer/vocalist Ranjit Barot, keyboardist/drummer Gary Husband, and bassist Étienne M'Bappé – McLaughlin has gathered a trio of fellow travelers with the collective discipline, technical ability, musicianship, and imagination to support, enhance, and enrich McLaughlin's challengingly expansive new material and methods.

"I am always excited to play with these musicians," McLaughlin says enthusiastically – no small compliment given he has performed alongside an array of revolutionary talents in his lifetime. "Not only are they marvelous players, but they are great human beings, and as such we have developed, over the years, a deep complicity that comes through in the music."

The latest dispatch from a life-long musical journey, Black Light shows no sign of slowing down or complacency on McLaughlin's part. Rather, it is the fulfillment of an ongoing, evolving ambition to thoughtfully, consciously imbue his sonic constructions with maximal emotional resonance.   What exactly does the title, Black Light mean to McLaughlin?  "The words are irrational, but then, music is irrational, though with a particular kind of logic.  What the words mean to me is the following.  Musicians and artists of all kinds live in their inner world, and everything we do comes from the inside of our brain, heart.  When I look inside my head there's only nothingness, nothing to grasp hold of and yet, I can see images clearly, and more importantly, I can hear music without sound, and that has never been played. To me, this is also a world of light, but there is no light, very strange but wonderful. This is 'Black Light'"

Following the international release of Black Light, McLaughlin and the 4th Dimension will set out on a world tour, continuing to explore and elaborate upon the album's genre-defying material.  More dates to be announced shortly.

JORGE CURIEL PROGRESSIVE ROCK NIGHT

Bass Icon Jeff Berlin To Launch Pledge Music Campaign For New Tribute Album To Legendary Jac Bruce

Launch Date: Tuesday August 18th worldwide on Pledge

Clearwater, FL - Bass icon Jeff Berlin will be launching a Pledge Music Campaign on August 18th for a new tribute album to legendary Jack Bruce titled "Jeff Berlin Plays Jack Bruce: Songs For A Wailer"! Jack Bruce, best known for his work with classic rock legends Cream, as well as his critically acclaimed solo work, sadly passed away in 2014. Jeff Berlin, who has been called "the greatest bass player in the world", was a personal friend of Jack's and felt the time was right for a tribute.

Says Jeff, "Recording the music of Jack Bruce will be the most emotional recording project of my career. Jack was the greatest musical influence I ever had. As an impressionable 14 year old bass player, I was stunned by Cream, literally in awe of the music that came from them. And, in the center of the music were these strange and wonderful bass lines weaving in and out of the key, reaching for resolutions and finding them, again, and again. Jack's playing was a living evolving improvisation. I simply never heard a bass player that had the breadth of originality like Jack had. In fact, I still haven't!

" 'Jeff Berlin Plays Jack Bruce: Songs for a Wailer!' isn't a cover CD, not in the literal sense. Except for a couple of tunes from his Cream period (arranged in ways that should surprise people) most of the songs on this CD come from other periods in Jack's musical life before and after Cream. Jack's solo career represented a multitude of musical styles, so many in fact that his career reminded me of that famous quote from Forrest Gump: You never knew what you were going to get. This recording, to me, will be a new revamp of some of those songs, some of the best music that I heard from one of the greatest musicians of the last fifty years."

Guest performers are:
Ginger Baker on drums
Chad Smith on drums
Paul Shaffer on Hammond organ
Allan Holdsworth on guitar

Guest list is still being expanded.

Pledge Music Video: https://vimeo.com/136438029

Known worldwide for his innovative style, Jeff has graced bandstands and recordings with legendary players like Bill Bruford, Dennis Chambers, Neil Peart, Billy Cobham, John McLaughlin, and Allan Holdsworth, and has led bands and recorded his own CDs for nearly 30 years. He has recorded for vocalists Patti Austin and kd Lang; he has traversed the progressive rock realm with former YES members Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman, Howe and is the only electric bassist to have played with jazz pianist Bill Evans. Jeff famously turned down an offer to join rockers VAN HALEN. Jeff is also hailed outside the usual musician ranks: Actor Gary Sinise (also a bassist) is one of his biggest fans, and renowned boxing trainer and ESPN commentator Teddy Atlas refers to Jeff as "the best in the business." Jaco Pastorius considered Berlin a better soloist than he was. Geddy  Lee called Jeff "the best bass player on the planet". Jack Bruce said that Jeff "was the greatest bass player I ever heard!" From straight ahead Jazz to Fusion to Prog-Rock, Jeff is famous for playing anything, always at the very highest level of proficiency and musicality.

"Jeff Berlin Plays Jack Bruce: Songs For A Wailer" will be co-produced with Jeff Berlin by New York based producer John McCracken. John is a gold and platinum record producer/musician/engineer with over 100 recordings produced for major and independent record labels as well as TV and film. He has worked in all genres including rock, pop, jazz and classical/opera. John is also a former EMI Music Group Executive as Head of A&R/Staff Producer for EMI Music/Blue Note Label Group. There he worked with Norah Jones, Amos Lee, Rosanne Cash, Diana Ross, Sarah Brightman, Anouska Shankar (daughter of Ravi and half sister of Norah Jones), Robert Glasper and many others. John is currently spearheading guitar legend Allan Holdsworth's Tales from the Vault PledgeMusic campaign. He is also an acclaimed guitarist and recording engineer and brings over 35+ years of experience at all levels of music production, A&R/project management and publishing.

Classic Rock Legends Wishbone Ash Return to North America for Fall Road Warriors Tour

Danbury, CT - Wishbone Ash, one of the most influential guitar bands in the history of rock, returns to these shores in September with the Road Warriors North American Tour. The tour begins in Colorado and moves eastward through the month, passing through 12 states and Ontario, Canada. Longtime fans and new converts alike will revel in the group's signature twin-guitar mastery and powerhouse rhythm section as they present classics spanning their career and showcase selections from their latest studio release, "Blue Horizon."

True road warriors, each year Wishbone Ash logs around 30,000 miles, roughly equivalent to circumnavigating the earth; but this year may just set an all-time record with a series of July performances in South Africa. "We are looking forward to reconnecting with fans from the past who are just catching on that we've been touring non-stop for 46 years, to see and hear how we've grown while carrying the torch," says founding member Andy Powell "And for our faithful fans who have walked with us consistently through the years, we have some special things in store to reach new heights in our relationship."

The Road Warriors North American Tour also comes on the heels of two live recording projects in May, including a direct-to-vinyl performance at renowned Metropolis Studios complex in London slated for a fall release, expected to be available on both vinyl and CD. "Recording live in a studio and going straight to acetate is rarely done," says Powell. "The conditions have to be just right, because you only get one shot. Everything has to be in sync."

Immediately following the Metropolis session, the band did a three-day residency at Le Triton Theatre in Les Lilas, Paris that was recorded for a DVD release in October. Powell says, "We recorded three nights of material, including current versions of some classic songs, plus some deep tracks that people won't necessarily expect."

Formed in 1969, Wishbone Ash is led by Powell on guitar and vocals, trading licks with Finnish guitar master Muddy Manninen. Bassist Bob Skeat, an 18-year veteran of the band, sets the pace with Joe Crabtree, one of the best of Britain's new breed of drummers whose performance credits include Pendragon and David Cross of King Crimson.

Through the years the band has delved into various musical genres, from folk, blues and jazz to pedal-to-the-metal rock and electronica. Whatever the style, Wishbone Ash's hallmark is the distinctive twin-melodic lead guitar interplay that has influenced such bands as Thin Lizzy, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Iron Maiden and, more recently, Opeth. Wishbone Ash has to its credit 24 original studio recordings, 11 live albums and five live DVDs along with a DVD rockumentary ("This is Wishbone Ash").

In 2014, the band released "Blue Horizon" (Solid Rockhouse Records) to international acclaim. Praised for its stylistic variety and powerful performances, the album features guest artist, Ireland's Pat McManus, on fiddle for two tracks. "Blue Horizon" also includes two songs written by Aynsley Powell (Andy Powell's son) and one by former Wishbone Ash guitarist Roger Filgate.

According to Powell, the album's diversity reflects the culmination of several factors. "The band basically lives together year-round, so we have a very strong level of communication that translates in our performances and recordings," he says. "We've come to an era where the industry has to pigeonhole a band as Classic Rock, Prog Rock, Heritage Rock and so on. The truth is that we have always kept our options open and always relied on the musicianship of the players to lead the way. It's fun to be stylistically diverse and this has, in its way, contributed to our longevity."

Powell has been working on his autobiography, "Eyes Wide Open: True Tales of a Wishbone Ash Warrior," which is slated for October publication and will be available through Amazon. "It's quite an undertaking to put 46 years of being a touring musician in this one band into book form," he says. "I've seen a lot of changes in the music business and the world in general, as you can imagine."

There is no other rock band in history that has done more with the twin guitar concept than The Ash. Be sure to catch them on the Road Warriors Tour this September. Tour dates and more information can be found at www.wishboneash.com.

Guitar Virtuoso and Composer Stephen Duros To Release Highly Anticipated Concept Album ‘AEAEA’

Oakland, CA - Much to the excitement of music aficionados worldwide, guitar virtuoso and composer Stephen Duros will be releasing a concept album titled'AEAEA' on July 31, 2015! The rippling, rhythmic sounds Stephen Duros coaxes out of his nylon string acoustic guitar has roots in the traditional sounds of flamenco, but he's developed his own style. Bluesy bent notes with a hint of Asia and the Middle East in their tone, octave melodies and rhythms that include suggestions of jazz, reggae, pop and Arab music join the familiar pulse of flamenco's gypsy rumba in his emotionally satisfying compositions.

Stephen Duros performed with Ottmar Liebert from 2006-2009. His playing is featured on Ottmar Liebert's Grammy nominated album 'The Scent of Light' and on his own three solo albums 'Miranda', 'Urban Flamenco' and 'Thira', which won Duros a place on the Grammy Ballot for a nomination in the Best New Age Album of the year category. He has worked with Billboard top 10 World Music artist, Lawson Rollins as the associate producer on the "Urban Trilogy" section of Rollins'newly released album 'Traveler'. He also plays in a band called "Path of Light" with Haitian percussionist, Jeff Pierre.

Duros explains that the concept behind the album is, "to recount a musical journey or odyssey. The album tells a story, much like a book does.  Instead of songs, the album has 12 chapters that are filled with twists and turns in the place of traditional songs. If listened to continuously, all the music connects into one long piece. The album title 'AEAEA' (ee-EE-a) is actually a mythological island found in the Greek poem 'The Odyssey'.  The album isn't about that island per-se, to me it was more of a great starting point for the journey."

On 'AEAEA', Duros played the flamenco, electric and bass guitars, oud, keyboards, percussion, palmas and drum programming. Andrew Reissiger played the charango and also co-produced the record along with Duros. Louis Romanos played the drums and percussion, Gary Moser played the riq and darbuka, Jeff Pierre played a conga solo and the album also features a special guest electric guitar solo by Nouveau Flamenco pioneer, Ottmar Liebert.

Says Duros, "I came up with the first 10 minutes of 'AEAEA' in late 2011, shared it with Ottmar and he was really intrigued by not only the music, but also the concept. He suggested that I continue the journey and see where it goes without worrying about staying in the traditional boundaries of song length and I loved that idea. It was total musical freedom, no boundaries and the writing process was addicting. I do most everything in my home studio from writing, playing, engineering, you name it. Some great musicians also played on some of the sections including an amazing trippy electric guitar solo by Ottmar. I was thrilled he played on the record, he's such a great musician and friend, I've learned so much from him over the years."

Duros has also been the head lighting designer for the Grammy award winning band Toto from 1999-2014. His lighting work is showcased on Toto's 35th Anniversary –Live in Poland DVD. Also an artist, his cartoon work is featured on on Steve Lukather's signature pedal 'The Luke' made by the award winning pedal company, ToneConcepts.

"Stephen Duros is not only one of the most gifted guitarist musicians I know, he is also a renaissance man in that everything he touches in art, music and beauty becomes his own. You hear it in his playing... and my God he is also the best rock 'n roll lighting designer I have ever worked with at the arena level.  He did the lighting for our TOTO Live in Poland DVD which went # 1 worldwide in 2014 and is a total pro with humor, love and passion screaming for his work in any and all of these areas. When I heard his music I was floored because not one person could have all this diverse talent and soul."  - Steve Lukather, 2015

"You can dig this, people. Romanticism and the call of history, lost civilizations, dream chambers and the effigies of Kings."   - Culture Court
