Revised: SOTO – Sign worldwide deal with InsideOutMusic; Working on new album!

SOTO, the modern Heavy Metal / Hardrock group featuring vocalist Jeff Scott Soto (ex Yngwie Malmsteen / Talisman / Journey, Sons Of Apollo, TSO, etc.), are pleased to announce the signing of a new worldwide deal with InsideOutMusic.

Jeff Scott Soto checked in with the following comment about the signing:"I am proud to have SOTO working with the great InsideOutMusic & their partners at Century Media Records and Sony Music. Having seen what we did together with Sons Of Apollo, I am thrilled to see what we'll do to further my own vanity band SOTO into the future. It's a very exciting time in our lives and career!".

SOTO started in 2015 derived from the ideal of Jeff Scott Soto wanting to return to his heavier roots. So far they released 2 albums, "Inside The Vertigo" (2015) and "DIVAK" (2016), taking a short break while Jeff embarked on the supergroup Sons Of Apollo, alongside Mike Portnoy, Derek Sherinian, Billy Sheehan and Bumblefoot.

Now SOTO are returning under the same umbrella as Sons Of Apollo, signing with InsideOutMusic. A new album is currently being worked on and its material will continue to expand and move the band towards new heights whilst following up with their brand of Power Rock.

SOTO also recently announced the newest member of the band, bassist Tony Dickinson, who coincidentally replaced the late David Z in the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Jeff explains, "It was the one, and only natural choice for us after losing our brother David in a horrific accident in 2017. Tony wrote, and played on two Singles for the first two SOTO albums, "The Fall" and "FreakShow". He is phenomenally talented, and a great friend. He'll fit right in with us and I cannot wait to showcase more of his contributions as we move the band forward!".

SOTO, which includes other members Jorge Salan (guitar), Edu Cominato (drums) and BJ (keys/guitar), will be touring throughout 2019 following the release of the still untitled new album as well as its corresponding singles and video clips.

Here are the next dates announced for SOTO in 2019:

SOTO – Live 2019:
17.02.2019 San Juan (Puerto Rico) – Handlebar
21.02.2019 Tampa (USA) – The Orpheum
24.-28.02.2019 Monsters Of Rock Cruise / https://monstersofrockcruise.com
More dates coming soon…

Stay tuned for more details about the upcoming SOTO album to be announced soon…

King Crimson 2019 Tour – Celebrating 50 Years

As part of a series of events and releases for their 50th anniversary, King Crimson's 2019 tour will include special concerts across three continents, including both festivals and headline shows.

Since the band's return to live performance in 2014, with critically acclaimed sell-out shows all over the world including two defining shows at the Roman amphitheatre in Pompeii, previously home to Pink Floyd, the audience has been reinvented, as much as the band itself:

"In Pompeii, a large percentage of the audience was young couples; KC moved into the mainstream in Italy. I walked onstage knowing that this band's position in the world has changed level." Robert Fripp

With its fiftieth anniversary, it seems that the wider world is finally ready to embrace King Crimson. A process that began with Kanye West's sampling of "21st Century Schizoid Man" for his 2010 hit "Power", now sees their song "Starless" as the soundtrack to the opening scenes of Nicholas Cage's new 2018 film "Mandy".

The band's packed three-hour shows regularly include material from twelve of their thirteen studio albums, including many of the songs from their seminal 1969 album "In The Court of the Crimson King", described by Pete Townshend, as an "uncanny masterpiece". The new 8-piece line-up plays many historic pieces which Crimson have never played live, as well as new arrangements of Crimson classics – "the music is new whenever it was written". There are also new instrumentals and songs, as well as the compositions by the three drummers, Pat Mastelotto, Gavin Harrison and Jeremy Stacey, which are a regular highlight. A unique show, where eight of the best musicians in the world play music without distraction or adornment.

King Crimson will be playing three shows at the Albert Hall in London in June 2019!

"MELTDOWN" – A BluRay filmed at the band's five sell-out shows in Mexico City in 2017, was released in October 2018.

"COSMIKC F*KC" – an in-depth documentary of King Crimson will appear in 2019.

"Jimi Hendrix saw them at the Marquee in 1969 and declared them to be the best band in the world. In many ways, almost half a century later, they still are." - ERIC THIESSEN, All About Jazz.

"Fripp and his band offered an impeccable performance in two stages. No melodies, no flapping, only musicians at the top of their art." - IAN BUSSIÈRES La Presse, Quebec

"The band finally reaps all that it has sown in its many transformations...the king is not dead, far from it, and they still rejoice." - REJEAN BEAUCAGE, Voir.ca

"Crimson has never sounded more complete, or more joyous, on stage than it does now." - JORDAN ZIVITZ, Montreal Gazette

"The uniqueness of seeing each of these seasoned musicians working is near indescribable and has to be experienced live to fully embrace their vision - think of eight master painters working in their own style, but on a common canvas, and you begin to get the idea of things." - WE HEART MUSIC, Minneapolis

"On our final evening at the festival, we were witness to the concert that inevitably proved to be its highlight...The blend of mood, melody, ambiance and atmosphere dazzled the audience, which responded with frequent standing ovations." - LEE ZIMMERMAN, Goldmine Magazine

ROBERT FRIPP, though best known for his work in King Crimson, has contributed to numerous albums by players as diverse as Brian Eno, David Bowie, Peter Gabriel, Blondie, Talking Heads, Daryl Hall, The Roches, Peter Hammill, Keith Tippett, David Sylvian, The Orb, and The Grid. His 1979 solo album, "Exposure" was described as "the Sergeant Pepper of avant punk." He has appeared twice in Rolling Stone magazine's 100 Greatest Guitarist Of All Time poll, although Fripp claims these are likely to have been mistakes by the typesetter.

TONY LEVIN has been a member of King Crimson since 1981.  Internationally renowned and constantly in-demand for his distinctive bass work, he also tours with Peter Gabriel with whom he has worked since 1977. He has appeared on albums by Paul Simon, John Lennon, David Bowie and countless others and recently formed his own band, Stick Men alongside Crimson drummer, Pat Mastelotto.

JAKKO JAKSZYK was a member of Level 42, before working with Mel Collins as part of ex-KC alumni group, 21st Century Schizoid Band between 2002 - 2004. His solo album, "The Bruised Romantic Glee Club" (2006) was his first recorded collaboration with Fripp, followed by "A Scarcity of Miracles" in 2011. An acclaimed producer in his own right, Jakszyk has recently mixed Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson's UK Top 20 album, "Homo Erraticus."
.
MEL COLLINS was previously a member of King Crimson 1970 - 1972 appearing on "In The Wake Of Poseidon" (1970), "Lizard" (1970), "Islands" (1971), "Earthbound" (1972) as well as a guest appearance on "Red" (1974), the final King Crimson album of the 1970s. He subsequently worked with The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd's Roger Waters, Dire Straits, Eric Clapton and many others, before returning to King Crimson in 2014.

GAVIN HARRISON joined King Crimson in 2007, playing a series of dates in the USA the following year. A respected author and tutor, he has also recorded three albums with The Pineapple Thief, though Harrison is probably best-known for his work with Porcupine Tree. Modern Drummer magazine placed him in their Top 50 Drummers Of All Time.

PAT MASTELOTTO joined King Crimson in 1994 after working with Robert Fripp and David Sylvian. A member of the hugely successful American 1980s group and MTV favourites, Mr. Mister, he is at home in both experimental music working with KTU as well as pop and rock appearing on albums by The Rembrandts, Hall And Oates and XTC.

JEREMY STACEY is a British drummer. His early work included the 1990s band, The Lemon Trees (with twin brother Paul Stacey on guitars, Guy Chambers and others) and Denzil. He has also played with Sheryl Crow, the Finn Brothers, Nick Harper, Noel Gallagher, and many more. On March 7, 2016, it was announced that he would be taking the place of Bill Rieflin as the centre drummer on the 2016 King Crimson European tour, a position he retained even after Rieflin's return to the band.

BILL RIEFLIN is a multi-instrumentalist but is primarily known for his drumming with Ministry and industrial rock outfit KMFDM. From 2003 until their dissolution in 2011 he played drums with REM. He recorded with Robert Fripp on "Birth Of A Giant" and "The Repercussions Of Angelic Behaviour" (both 1999) and most recently in the ambient super-group, Slow Music in 2006 and 2014.

Guitar Legend Scott Henderson Offers 10-Week Course Teaching Basic Steps to Improvisation and General Organization on the Guitar

Legendary guitarist Scott Henderson will take you through the basic steps to improvisation and general organization on the guitar. Over 10 weeks, you'll learn to use scales and their modes, chord tones, rhythmic ideas, motifs, and chord voicings, all with the focus on musicianship and artistry.

Hi Friends,

I'm happy to announce that I'm teaching an online class at Musicians Institute. Stig Mathisen, head of the guitar department, help me put this course together which we're really proud of. This is how it works:

It's a 10-week course which starts every January, April, July, and October. You get 10 videos which are uploaded weekly, and remain active for a year after the 10-week course is over. You also get an online session with me every Tuesday afternoon at 12PM Pacific Time. You can text me questions about that week's video, or whatever's on your mind, and see me talking, playing, and giving musical examples over backing tracks. These online lectures are also available for one year after the 10-week course is over.

The course starts with very basic information and moves pretty quickly, up to advanced jazz concepts. The program works because the material is explained very clearly, and as I mentioned, the videos and lectures remain active for a year.

If you're a guitarist who doesn't want to attend a school for logistic or financial reasons, but wants to improve your knowledge of guitar, this course could be just what you're looking for. I'd also add that the course is not designed to be just a study of technical information, but rather a study of how to turn that information into musical ideas, with the emphasis on phrasing, tone, and artistry.

Get $50 off because you saw this on Facebook. Hope to see you online!

Thanks,

Scott

Born in 1954, Scott Henderson grew up in an era where blues-rock was at it's peak. His formative musical years took place in South Florida where he played the clubs with various bands, playing everything from Led Zeppelin to James Brown. As he was learning his instrument, Henderson was influenced by Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Ritchie Blackmore, and his favorite blues guitarist Albert King.

Even though Henderson claims to be more of a blues-rock player, it was the influence of jazz that led him to the style of playing and composing that he is now famous for.

Scott studied arranging and composition at Florida Atlantic University, then moved to Los Angeles in 1980. He toured and recorded with Chick Corea's Elektric Band, violinist Jean-Luc Ponty, and was pleased to get the opportunity to work for four years with one of his favorite musicians, Weather Report's Joe Zawinul. He recorded two albums with the Zawinul Syndicate, "The Immigrants" and "Black Water". Henderson formed the legendary band Tribal Tech in 1984 with bassist Gary Willis, and recorded ten critically acclaimed albums. The most recent recording is "Tribal Tech X" released in March 2012.

In 1991, Scott was named by Guitar World as the #1 Jazz Guitarist, and in January 1992, he was named #1 Jazz Guitarist in Guitar Player's Annual Reader's Poll. His first solo blues album "Dog Party", a welcome retreat to his musical roots, won best blues album of 1994 in Guitar Player Magazine. His next solo albums "Tore Down House" and "Well to the Bone" paired Henderson with legendary vocalist Thelma Houston. "Vibe Station", Henderson's latest and most accomplished work as a leader, is an instrumental trio record featuring Travis Carlton on bass and Alan Hertz on drums. The trio has toured extensively throughout the world in over 50 countries, playing music from the solo albums as well as some of Henderson's music recorded by Tribal Tech.

Scott has also released two albums with "Vital Tech Tones", a trio collaboration with bassist Victor Wooten and former Journey drummer Steve Smith. In 2009 he began touring worldwide with the HBC Trio, featuring bassist Jeff Berlin and drummer Dennis Chambers. Their first record "HBC" was released in October 2012.

As is often the case with a musician of Scott's caliber, the demand is great that he share his knowledge with the current generation of guitarists. He is on the faculty at Musician's Institute in Hollywood, where his Open Counseling sessions are some of MI's most popular. Scott has also written columns for Guitar Player Magazine and many other guitar publications.

Alfred Publishing has released Henderson's instructional DVD entitled "Scott Henderson - Jazz Rock Mastery", and his first transcription book "The Scott Henderson Guitar Book". His other two transcription books, "The Best Of Scott Henderson" and "Scott Henderson - Blues Guitar Collection" are available through Hal Leonard Publishing, as well as his instructional book "Jazz Guitar Chord System", a revolutionary way for students to study the pluralities of jazz harmony.

O.R.k. Announce Details of New Album Ramagehead Set For Release Through Kscope on February 22, 2019

Highly accomplished band includes award-winning composer /vocalist Lorenzo Esposito Fornasari, King Crimson's Pat Mastelotto and Porcupine Tree's Colin Edwin

Album features special guest vocalist System Of A Down's Serj Tankian

Confirmed live headline shows throughout Europe & UK for early 2019 + support to The Pineapple Thief

O.R.k., comprising some of contemporary music's most revered artists, have combined their creative forces once again for a new studio album; their first for the ground-breaking UK label Kscope; O.R.k'sRamagehead will be released on 22nd February 2019.

The band feature Italy's celebrated vocalist, producer and award-winning film score composer Lorenzo Esposito Fornasari a.k.a LEF (lead vocals), King Crimson's Pat Mastelotto (drums), Porcupine Tree's Colin Edwin (bass), Marta Sui Tubi's Carmelo Pipitone (guitars); Ramagehead also features a superstar collaboration in the form of Grammy Award-winner Serj Tankian of System of a Down, who is undoubtedly one of metal's greatest and most renowned vocalists.

Penned following their headline European tour in support of their second album, 2017's Soul of an Octopus; Ramagehead was forged from the band's collective vision, unique influences and a multi-layered reflection of their powerful and engaging live experience. The result contains all the ingredients of a fiery O.R.k. performance with dark and heavy riffing, mesmeric atmospheres and lyrics that reveal the band's bewilderment brought about by our modern world: a world of information overload, of uncertainty and post-truth messages. Bass player Colin Edwin explains further, "Ramagehead is a not a concept album as such, but there is certainly an identifiable theme, in that we attempt to express the everyday bewilderment bought about by the uncertain times we are living in, and the constant confusing information overload that we are all subjected to in today's post-fact environment. We also wanted to harness the power, unpredictability and spontaneity of the O.R.k. live experience into a static recording whilst aiming for a high-resolution sonic space that can be revisited repeatedly by the avid listener to discover ever deeper layers."

Recorded during 2018 at LefMusicStudio (Italy), The Wormhole (USA) and Nightspace (UK). The mixing for Ramagehead was handled by Adrian Benavides and three-time Grammy-winning engineer Marc Urselli (U2, Foo Fighters, Nick Cave), the mastering by Michael Fossenkemper, engineering by Benavides and Bill Munyon (King Crimson), cover art by Adam Jones (TOOL) and design by Denis Rodier(Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman). The recordings, and involvement of SOAD's Serj Tankian on the forthcoming single, "Black Blooms", solidifies the band's serious intent to use their musical chemistry in exploring the hard-edged possibilities within rock.

For me, O.R.k. is always a completely immersive and unforgettable experience in the live arena, so with new tracks to play and an opportunity to reach places and people we've yet to get to, this tour will be our best yet."

50th Anniversary of Jethro Tull w/ Ian Anderson US Dates

Ian Anderson Continues 50 YEARS OF JETHRO TULL
into its 51st Year
(Jethro Tull first tour in North America was in 1969)

Ian Anderson's 50 Years of Jethro Tull continues in 2019 with tours confirmed in the United States and Europe. Concerts in  the States in March, July, and September with confirmed concerts on both coasts in New Jersey, New York, Maryland, New England, and California.

It was on the 2nd of February 1968 at the world-famous Marquee Club in Wardour Street that Jethro Tull first performed under that name. The group would go on to become one of the most successful and enduring bands of their era, selling over 60 million albums worldwide and entering the cultural collective consciousness along the way, playing their first concerts in North America in November and December 1969!

Founder, frontman and flautist, Ian Anderson is rightly credited with introducing the flute to rock as a front line instrument, not to mention the codpiece!

Jethro Tull are one of the biggest selling Progressive Rock artists of all time, and the group's immense and diverse catalogue of work encompasses folk, blues, classical and heavy rock stylings. The anniversary concerts will feature a broad mix of material, some of it focussing on the earlier formative period through to the "heavy hitters" of the Tull catalogue from the albums: This Was, Stand Up, Benefit, Aqualung, Thick As A Brick, Too Old To Rock And Roll: Too Young To Die, Songs From The Wood, Heavy Horses, Crest Of A Knave and even a touch of TAAB2 from 2012.

Anderson says, "We continue to present the 50th Anniversary concerts in many countries and regions not visited in 2018, and also many Tull repertoire shows in Europe. There will be, of course, my usual charitable cathedral and church concerts in December. In the USA - many would argue - 2019 is really the 50th Anniversary for US fans since we first visited in early 1969."

Ian Anderson is accompanied by Tull band musicians David Goodier (bass), John O'Hara (keyboards), Florian Opahle (guitar), Scott Hammond (drums) and surprise virtual guests

In addition to the tour, look for "the excellent special edition of the Steven Wilson remix and remastered STORMWATCH, now celebrating the 40th Anniversary (with extra material from the sessions and some live concerts)." The official Tull 50th Anniversary book should be released in the first few months of 2019 - watch www.JethroTull.com for more news.

About Jethro Tull

Jethro Tull have released 30 studio and live albums, selling more than 60 million copies worldwide. During their 50-year history, the band has performed over 3,000 concerts in more than 50 countries, playing 100+ concerts each year.

Prog Ensemble The Gardening Club Release Eagerly Anticipated New Album “The Riddle”

London - Due to the tremendous response UK prog ensemble The Gardening Club received for the reissue of their 1983 self-titled album last year, the band has released a brand new album! The new Gardening Club album, "The Riddle" was recorded at producer/guitarist Norm Macpherson's Garry Oak Studios in Metchosin British Columbia. This location surrounded by forest and close to the Pacific Ocean, was ideal for writing and recording the new record.

Martin Springett and Norm had known each other as young players while living in Victoria many years ago, both were drawn to the music the other was making; Norm was a phenomenal blues player even at the age of 17. Martin as a new immigrant from England, was setting Tolkien's words to music. Two very different worlds! The connection that started the new project, was a mutual friend, a poet named Cyril McColgan. Martin had been setting Cyril's poems to music for many years, and so after meeting up again, Norm and Martin decided it would be fun to 'do something' together, and Cyril's words were the connection for them both, and a starting point for recording together. There was no thought of an album, just an exploration of Martin's songs, old and new, with Cyril's words. The tale grew in the telling, to quote somebody or other, and when Gonzo Multimedia re-released the original "Gardening Club" album from 1983 in October of 2017, this inspired the recording sessions with a new hope that perhaps Gonzo might well be interested in this new Gardening Club project.

The shape of the album grew and changed as players appeared, miraculously you might say, that seemed to be a perfect fit for Martin's music. Norm's son, James MacPherson brought in his phenomenal drum programming skills, as well as some very effective synth solos. Sean Drabitt, a highly respected jazz bassist, came in with fretless electric bass, to provide a unique underpinning to the songs, Sean's first love being bands like Rush and King Crimson. Wayne Kozak, with a wealth of studio experience over the decades, provided beautiful soprano sax solos. Finally, Norm Macpherson, an award winning guitarist gave the album it's 'second voice', after Martin's heartfelt vocals, his signature soaring, slide guitar. Norm also produced and engineered the album, giving it a shape and focus sound wise that again complemented Martin's songs perfectly.

The art that Martin Springett created for the album was actually a compilation of images created over a year prior to the recording. Inspired by the very positive reaction to his Gardening Club album's re-release, Martin explored as many aspects of The Garden as he could, and The Three Riddles came out of this fertile creative period. The 24 page illustrated lyric booklet that accompanies "The Riddle", was the next visual challenge. Martin has always felt that the link between the visual and the musical exemplified the best of the Prog rock releases of his youth, and wished to emulate that particular specific synergy with "The Riddle".

The band is deep in the recording of the next Gardening Cub album, "Boy On A Bike". All the songs are written, two thirds of the album recorded. This a very different experience to "The Riddle", where the band was learning to work together. In the new one, Norm and Martin can afford to experiment just a little more, the songs are all connected together sonically, making this something of a rock concerto. The same team has assembled plus some very cool guests, which of course changes things yet again.

Martin will be putting together videos with his art and music from "The Riddle" very soon, as well as for "Boy On A Bike".

In closing Martin has this to impart, "Life is full of beautiful melancholy, moody mysteries, shadows and light, grand gestures, tiny life changing moments, exploding super novas, cosmic light shows, stalled cars, love, seven year old poets, thoughts on surviving heart surgery, an homage to a brilliant female artist, the original sleep; you know the usual stuff."

The Gardening Club features:
SEAN DRABITT - FRETLESS ELECTRIC BASS -  Sean Drabitt left Victoria, Canada, in early 90's to study Jazz bass in Los Angeles with mentor John Clayton. The next decade he spent first in New Orleans, where he worked with all members of the Marsalis family, then in New York, working with the best young players on the modern jazz scene, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Mark Turner, Eric Harland and Ari Honig among them. Specializing in a hard driving hard bop informed style of bass playing. Sean recently gave several performances on the West coast of Canada on fretless electric bass with his quartet, A Tribute To Jaco Pastorious! https://www.seandrabitt.com

WAYNE KOZAK - SOPRANO SAXOPHONE - Wayne is one of the most respected sax players on the West Coast of Canada. At home in any genre of music, his improvisations are intense and melodic explorations that add immeasurably to any song he is asked to play on. Wayne ran his own studio for many years in Vancouver, Wayne Kozak Audio Productions, involved in music production, advertising jingles and soundtracks.

JAMES MACPHERSON - James began playing different instruments when he was very young, including woodwinds in a variety of orchestras, then went on to play guitar, bass, drums and keyboards in many bands.  Teaching these instruments professionally, he also became involved with audio production, recording and producing albums for local bands. James brings a fresh and young energy to the music that has become an essential ingredient in The Gardening Club sound.

NORM MACPHERSON -  Victoria (BC) Canada Music Hall Of Fame Inductee 2010 / Lifetime Achievement Award. Norm's reputation as an outstanding guitarist began with his lead playing in local Victoria bands like Blues By Five and Moxie. His recording and touring credits include The Poppy Family (Terry and Susan Jacks) Skylark (with founding member producer David Foster), Burton Cummings, Roy Forbes, Connie Kaldor, The Sample Stearns Band and many years with Canadian troubadour, Valdy. Norm is also an active bassoon player with the Sooke Philharmonic Orchestra, Victoria Chamber Orchestra, and The Victoria Civic Orchestra.

MARTIN SPRINGETT - Martin Springett is an artist, author and musician. He recorded his first album in 1969, settings of JRR Tolkien's poems. The album was never released, but this experience set Martin on a path to combine his art and music as one effective statement. The early days of the progressive rock movement were a huge influence, especially the combined effect of art and music, as in Roger Dean's covers for Yes. "The Gardening Club" LP, originally released in 1983, now considered a 'lost prog classic' by some, was the first mature linking of his art and music. After many years in the publishing industry, Martin is now committed full time to creating music and art that reflect his connection to this wondrous and terrifying place we call home. Planet Earth.

Guitar Legend Jason Becker's New Album “Triumphant Hearts” Receives Rave Reviews Worldwide!

Jason Becker is a musical phenomenon!

Guitar legend Jason Becker released his eagerly anticipated new album "Triumphant Hearts" on December 7, 2018. The album has been receiving amazing reviews around the globe!

"It feels so good that people are experiencing the music in a deep way. When I was writing the album, it was what my soul needed, and I hoped others would feel the same. To see that people are feeling my heart is the greatest gift any artist could ask for." - Jason Becker

Watch the album's trailer:

Jason Becker's story is one of brilliance, talent, determination, adversity, and, ultimately, triumph. A child prodigy on guitar, Jason rose to prominence as a teenager when he was one half of the legendary rock guitar duo Cacophony (with his great friend Marty Friedman). After wowing audiences all over the world with his amazing guitar chops and deep compositions, Jason auditioned for—and got—the gig with David Lee Roth, following in the huge footsteps of Eddie Van Halen and Steve Vai. He wrote and recorded the DLR album "A Little Ain't Enough" and was poised to take over the rock guitar world when a nagging pain in his leg was diagnosed as ALS, or Lou Gehrig's Disease, a debilitating and fatal condition with a life expectancy of maybe five years. Maybe.

That was 29 years ago.

Jason did indeed lose the ability to play guitar, walk, talk, and breathe on his own. But he never lost his will to live or his desire to create music. Communicating through a series of eye movements with a system developed by his father, Jason spells out words as well as musical notes and chords. He imparts his musical vision to his team who then can input the notes into a computer, edit the parts to his exacting standards, and then generate charts for session musicians. It is through this amazing process that Jason composes his profoundly beautiful music, rich in melody and counterpoint, brimming with emotion. His inspiring music and life story have been the subject of countless news articles, magazine cover stories, and an award-winning documentary, "Jason Becker: Not Dead Yet."

Not only is Jason not dead yet, he's busier and more prolific than ever, as evidenced by his latest release, Triumphant Hearts. The album's 14 tracks showcase Jason's gift for melody and his deep knowledge of classical composition and orchestral arrangement. Many of the guitar parts are performed by a who's-who of 6-string gods including Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Neal Schon, Steve Morse, Paul Gilbert, Joe Bonamassa, and many others. And, in what will absolutely delight his fans, Jason's amazing guitar playing—recorded in the '80s and '90s—graces several tunes.

Jason Becker is unquestionably the sexiest man alive, but he's also the most positive, upbeat, and inspiring man alive. "I really feel lucky," says Jason. "I am surrounded by loving people, and I can still make music."

Guitarist Markus Reuter Releases First Christmas Album

Download the album for free!

Poly-disciplinary musician and touch guitarist Markus Reuter has just released his first Christmas album - a free, limited-availability-period recording of five traditional Christmas songs (each of which has been given Markus' distinctive loop/solo/soundscape treatment). As with much of Markus' music, the pieces are accessible and enjoyable while concealing hidden depths. Beneath and behind Markus' soulful touch guitar renditions of the original melodies, billowing detailed soundscapes are built on re-examinations and explorations of the pitch series of each tune. Listeners can enjoy the simple snowfall, or choose to tunnel deeper into the ice kingdom. A parallel universe... strangely hypnotizing.

The album is available for free download from https://iapetus-store.com/album/winter-solstice-free-download between 17th and 31st December 2018 (and is available long-term as a free 5.1. surround sound version from https://surroundmusic.one/album/winter-solstice/).

TODD RUNDGREN

A Wizard, A True Star. The title of Todd Rundgren's 1973 solo album aptly sums up the contributions of this multi-faceted artist to state-of-the-art music. As a songwriter, video pioneer, producer, recording artist, computer software developer, conceptualist, and interactive artist (re-designated TR-i), Rundgren has made a lasting impact on both the form and content of popular music.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Rundgren began playing guitar as a teenager, going on to found and front The Nazz, the quintessential `60's psychedelic group. In 1969, he left the band to pursue a solo career, recording his debut offering, the legendary Runt. But it was 1972's seminal Something/Anything?, on which he played all the instruments, sang all the vocal parts, and acted as his own producer, that catapulted Todd into the superstar limelight, prompting the press to unanimously dub him 'Rock's New Wunderkind'. It was followed by such landmark LPs as The Hermit of Mink Hollow and the above mentioned A Wizard, A True Star, as well as such hit singles as "I Saw The Light," "Hello It's Me," "Can We Still Be Friends," and "Bang The Drum."

In 1974, Todd formed Todd Rundgren's Utopia (renamed and reconfigured in 1976 as Utopia), an entirely new approach to the concept of interactive musicianship, and embarked on an extensive round of touring and recording. Standout Utopia offerings included Oops! Wrong Planet, Adventures in Utopia, and Oblivion. Along the way, Todd Rundgren's Utopia combined technical virtuosity and creative passion to create music that initially, for millions, defined the term "progressive rock", and subsequently, as Utopia, the term "powerpop."

Rundgren's myriad production projects include albums by Patti Smith, Cheap Trick, Psychedelic Furs, Meat Loaf, XTC, Grand Funk Railroad, and Hall And Oates. Rounding out his reputation as rock's Renaissance Man, Rundgren composed all the music and lyrics for Joe Papp's 1989 Off-Broadway production of Joe Orton's Up Against It  (the screenplay commissioned by The Beatles for what was meant to have been their third motion picture). He also has composed the music for the hit film Dumb and Dumber, as well as a number of television series, including Pee Wee's Playhouse and Crime Story.

In 2012 Rundgren performed his iconic 1973 album A Wizard A True Star in concert in its entirety for the first time ever, and several years later did the same with a double bill: Todd & Healing. He has toured with Ringo Starr as an erstwhile member of the All-Starr Band since 1989, and continues to perform with symphony orchestras both domestically and internationally. His latest studio album, White Knight, was released last May, and this past spring he toured North America with original Utopians Kasim Sulton and Willie Wilcox for the first time in 33 years. His long-awaited autobiography The Individualist, will be in stores December 21. He embarks on the world's first hybrid concert/book tour this coming April/May, highlighting music across his 50-year career.

Last year on successive weekends he was awarded honorary doctorates from both the Berklee School of Music and DePauw University.

In 1998 Todd debuted his new PatroNet technology which for the first time allowed fans of a musical artist to subscribe directly to the artist's musical output via the Internet. This caps a long history of groundbreaking early multimedia "firsts", including:

• 1978: The first interactive television concert, broadcast live over the Warner/QUBE system in Columbus, Ohio (the home audience chose each song in real time during the concert by voting via QUBE's 2-way operating system).
• 1978: The first live nationally broadcast stereo radio rock concert (by microwave), linking 40 cities around the country.
• 1979: The opening of Utopia Video Studios, a multi-million dollar state-of-the-art facility. The first project produced by Todd there is Gustav Holst's The Planets, commissioned by RCA Selecta Vision as the first demonstration software for their new videodisc format.
• 1980: Creation of the first color graphics tablet, which was licensed to Apple and commercially released as The Utopia Graphics Tablet.
• 1981: "Time Heals," the first music video to utilize state-of-the-art compositing of live action and computer graphics (produced and directed by Todd), becomes the eighth video to be played during the launch of MTV on August 1, 1981.
• 1982: The first live national cablecast of a rock concert (on the USA Network), simulcast in stereo to over 120 radio stations.
• 1982: The first two commercially released music videos, one of which was nominated for the first-ever Grammy awarded for "Best Short Form Video" in 1983.
• 1992: The first commercially available music downloads via CompuServe.
• 1993: The release of No World Order, the world's first interactive record album on CD-i.
• 1994: The release of The Individualist, the world's first full-length Enhanced CD.
• 1994: The world's first interactive concert tour.
• 1998: Launches PatroNet, the world's first direct artist subscription service -- predicts that someday "music will be sold by the pound".
• 2016: The production of the world's first full length concert shot with multiple Virtual Reality 360º cameras.
