Billy Sherwood's new song "The Citizen" out now

"The Citizen," featuring Chris Squire and Tony Kaye, New Track from Billy Sherwood's Upcoming Album CITIZEN

(Billy Sherwood available for Interviews in Advance of November 6 Album Release)

Frontiers Music srl has unveiled another song from the new Billy Sherwood album, CITIZEN. The song, "The Citizen" can be heard here at this link: http://on.fb.me/1Lz5ER8. The album, CITIZEN is due out November 6.

This is the third song to be revealed prior to the new album's release on November 6th. All digital pre-orders of CITIZEN include instant downloads of "The Citizen," "Just Galileo And Me," and "No Man's Land." Pre-orders available here: radi.al/BillySherwoodCitizen.

In writing the song, "The Citizen," Billy Sherwood's main goal was to set up his concept album, CITIZEN, about a lost soul reincarnated in different eras. Almost modeling the album's opening after the beginning scroll of the movie STAR WARS, he wanted the lyrics show how one thing could change the course of history. "I think people need to listen to the album once, and then start again with the song 'The Citizen' as it shows that the guy has already been there throughout history."

Billy's aware that the song "The Citizen" can also stand on its own, and—thus—be interpreted in other ways including the responsibility of citizens being informed. "That is the cool thing about music, people can read a lot of things into it.  It shows how the music relates to the listener."

It is significant that the song "The Citizen" is the last recording of Billy's mentor, Yes bassist Chris Squire.  Earlier this year when Chris was diagnosed with cancer, he handpicked Billy Sherwood to fill in for him on bass and vocals in Yes, before he left for cancer treatment and ultimately, his untimely death.  Former Yes keyboardist Tony Kaye is also on the recording.

Other artists on the album, CITIZEN, are Yes keyboardists: Patrick Moraz, Rick Wakeman, Geoff Downes, Dream Theater keyboardist Jordan Rudess, Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett and Yes' current singer Jon Davison.

Billy started his career in the band Lodgic and then as a member of World Trade, who have two critically-acclaimed albums. He has produced and engineered for many artists including John Wetton, Motorhead, Queensryche, Paul Rodgers, and Yes. He joined Yes first as touring member on the "Talk" tour in 1994, and was a full time member from 1997 to 1999. He recorded two albums with Chris Squire as the "Conspiracy" project and released six albums with Circa, the band he formed with Tony Kaye.

CITIZEN is Billy's eighth album of new material, though he sees this as a group effort, "While I've created a lot of this record myself I couldn't have done it without the amazing talents brought to bear by all the great artists who participated. So I feel it's much more of a collective effort than a solo album. It's my desire to take this production onto the stage and some of these amazing artists can help bring this concept to life.

The Album, CITIZEN is being released November 6 on Frontiers Music Srl.

GAZPACHO TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM "MOLOK" THIS WEEK ON KSCOPE

First single "Know Your Time" streaming online

NORWAY - Norwegian art-rock progressive outfit Gazpacho will release its brand new studio album Molok through Kscope this Friday, October 23. Molok can be pre-ordered on CD and LP via the Kscope web-store at: www.kscopemusic.com/store. The CD version will feature an additional instrumental track "Algorithm."

The first single, "Know Your Time," is streaming on Soundcloud at: https://soundcloud.com/kscopemusic/gazpacho-know-your-time-taken-from-new-studio-album-molok/s-dBSqz.

1. Park Bench
2. The Master's Voice
3. Bela Kiss
4. Know Your Time
5. Choir of Ancestors
6. ABC
7. Algorithm
8. Alarm
9. Molok Rising

Molok, the follow up to the acclaimed 2014 album Demon, sees the band continue to push the boundaries for creating the most complicated and strangest concepts for a record while simultaneously becoming the first band ever to actively try to destroy the universe with an album. A small code that sounds like a strange noise at the end of the album will cause the correction software that runs in all CD players to generate a random number every time the CD is played. If that number should correspond to the actual position of all electrons in the universe then technically the universe could be destroyed.

Dr. Adam Washington from the University of Sheffield confirms that this is science fact rather than fiction: "The random signal produced by the end of the disk contains enough bits of information to express a measurement of the total number of fundamental particles present in the universe. If the noise actually contained such a measurement, and that measurement was performed rapidly enough, the universe's total particle count could be fixed under the Quantum Zeno effect. Locking the total particle count would prevent the pair production that forms a fundamental part of the decay of black holes. Without such decay forces, black holes would remain stable forever, without the need for nearby matter or the cosmic microwave background to keep them fed. This would greatly hasten the practical end of the universe."

The band further commented: "If it can be destroyed by such minute creatures within it, if it is just a chemical reaction, then does it have any spiritual value? In this scenario there is no good or bad, just an absence of meaning."

Across the album there are religious themes going head to head with modern day new science ideas and theories, Gazpacho's Thomas Andersen states, "the album itself is about a man that sometime around 1920 decides that wherever anyone worships a God they always seem to be worshipping stone in some form. Whether it is a grand cathedral, the stone in Mecca or Stonehenge. God seems to have been chased by his worshipers into stone never to return. This harkens back to Norwegian folk myths where if a troll was exposed to sunlight it would turn to stone but it also reflects the way God has been incommunicado for a very long time."

The band goes on to say: "In a mechanistic view of the universe all events in the universe are a consequence of a previous event. This means that with enough information you should be able to calculate the past and the future and this is what he does. He names the machine 'Molok' after the biblical demon into whose jaws children were sacrificed because his machine crunches numbers. On solstice day he starts the machine and it quickly gains some form of intelligence as it races through history undergoing its own evolution."

Throughout Molok Gazpacho focuses on the idea that without God/a god to guide us, humanity is unsure of the meaning of life, that while we attempt to fill the void with other things we've still not found the answer; without a master to lean on we are very much alone in this universe.

On the album Gazpacho makes a direct connection with history. Norwegian music archaeologist Gjermund Kolltveit appears on the song "Molok Rising," playing his reconstruction of stone-age instruments with an educated guess at what the early songs of worship must have sounded like. This includes small stones, moose jaws and an assortment of flutes and stringed instruments. He also plays the Skåra stone, a singing stone which has a strong possibility of having been in use since the last ice age ended 10,000 years ago. Technically this means that the album uses the oldest original instrument ever recorded on an album.

The band is also joined by world-renowned Norwegian accordion player Stian Carstensen who is a central member of Balkan-jazz orchestra Farmers Market.

Stay tuned for more information on Gazpacho and Molok, out this week on Kscope.

UK Hitmakers Cutting Crew Release First New Album In Ten Years! OUT NOW!

London, UK - CUTTING CREW has announced details of their first new material for ten years. The multi-million selling, Grammy nominated UK outfit fronted by Nick Van Eede were responsible for one of the biggest hits of the 1980s - with (I Just) Died In Your Arms – and the band's revelatory new album entitled Add To Favourites is their strongest to date and is OUT NOW on In Like Flynn Records, via Cherry Red Records.

A single from the album – the Jackson Browne/George Harrison-tinged Till The Money Run$ Out - was released on September 4th. With some glorious Californian harmonies Van Eede sings "Now you said that you like to play the field/And I should get over it/But when all of your games got to be revealed/I was the last to hear of it,"

It's hardly surprising that (I Just) Died In Your Arms is seen as songwriter Nick Van Eede's greatest achievement and yet this Pyrrhic victory surely masks Van Eede's subsequent song-writing collaborations with artists including Mika, Pixie Lott, Marillion and Cher.

Add To Favourites, which features guitarists Gareth Moulton and Joolz Dunkley, bassist Nick Kay, keyboardist Jono Harrison, drummer Martyn Baker and the Blackjack Horns, is Van Eede's "tip of the hat to artists I've always adored" – from Otis Redding to Frank Zappa(!)

The album also tackles weighty subjects such as relatives and friends gone too soon (Van Eede lost both his younger brother and his long-time Cutting Crew bedfellow Kevin MacMichael some time ago) on Looking For A Friend and the Berlin Wall on Berlin In Winter which Van Eede performed live in Berlin at the 25th Anniversary of The Wall's demise last November.

Van Eede has revealed that he wrote "80% of the album under water" and the album's startling artwork featuring our protagonist emerging as a knight from a swimming pool is inspired by the fact that Van Eede is a supremely gifted swimmer and that several of his friends have suggested he would be able to swim a mile whilst wearing full body armour. A full UK tour – due to take place above ground - is set to be announced in the next few weeks.

Watch the video for "Till The Money Run$ Out" Here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWbd9k2SNWQ

Track Listing:
1. TILL THE MONEY RUNS OUT
2. LOOKING FOR A FRIEND
3. BERLIN IN WINTER
4. KEPT ON LOVIN YOU
5. SAN FERIAN
6. ALREADY GONE
7. AS FAR AS I CAN SEE
8. BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE
9. ONLY FOR YOU
10. (SHE JUST HAPPENED TO BE) BEAUTIFUL

CRUISING, the Controversial Cult Classic Film Soundtrack Available on Compact Disc for the First Time

"One of the rockingest movies ever...
the music here is dark, dirty and seedy."

Camarillo, CA - Marshall Blonstein's Audio Fidelity will be releasing the original motion picture soundtrack to Cruising, the 1980 William Friedkin film starring Al Pacino. The controversial movie has become an underground cult classic and the release of the dynamic soundtrack featuring performances by Willy DeVille, John Hiatt, Rough Trade, The Cripples, Mutiny and their left field opus "Lump," The Germs and others has been long-awaited.

The film, considered a snapshot of pre-AIDS gay life, is about a series of violent New York murders in which the victims all frequent clandestine Manhattan leather bars in which gay men gather to dance, drink, do drugs and make pairings while enveloped in an S&M world of leather, boots, whips and chains. When Friedkin announced plans to set a movie in that milieu, and to film it primarily on location, the New York gay community rose up in protest. Cruising, they said, would present a distorted view of gay life. Upon the film's release gay activists had public protests against the film. However, critical opinion of it has warmed over the years as the film has been reassessed and the demand for the music continued to grow.

One of the best parts of the film is the amazingly gritty soundtrack. The music was scored and compiled by the late Jack Nitzsche, one of the most prolific film orchestrators in Hollywood during that period. Nitzsche was best known for being Phil Spector's arranger (and shared credit as the co-creator of "The Wall of Sound"). He won an Academy Award for Best Song for co-writing with Will Jennings and Buffy Sainte-Marie "Up Where We Belong" from 1982's An Officer and a Gentleman. Jack also worked with Neil Young on "Harvest" and was a keyboard player on many mid-1960s albums by The Rolling Stones.

Friedkin and Nitzsche had collaborated earlier on The Exorcist. Among many film successes he composed the unusual score for One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest. Nitzsche can currently be seen at work in the studio in The Wrecking Crew documentary making rounds on movie theater and cable TV screens.

Most of the songs on the Cruising soundtrack are a mix of rock, glam and disco music. The tracks are much more violent and full of an anxious energy. The tracks complement the action and the S&M bar setting extremely well and offer a glimpse of an un-idealized 70's scene. It is not the flourishing, feverish, disco epics that have come to stereotype gay musical tastes though there is some serious dance floor stomping here as well as several raw and spirited tracks by various punk, P.Funk, rock, pop and soul artists.

Nitzsche was excited about working with the proto punk Germs as well as Willy DeVille and as a result of this record went on to produce some of their best material including three Willy DeVille albums beginning in the late 1970s: Cabretta (1977), Return to Magenta (1978), and Coup de Grâce (1981). Nitzsche said that DeVille was the best singer he had ever worked with and that talent is on display in this original motion picture soundtrack.

Tracks:

1) Willy DeVille - Heat Of The Moment
2) The Cripples - Loneliness
3) John Hiatt - Spy Boy
4) Madelynn Von Ritz - When I Close My Eyes I See Blood
5) Mutiny - Lump
6) Rough Trade - Shakedown
7) Willy DeVille - Pullin' My String
8) Germs - Lions Share

10) Willy DeVille - It's So Easy

A Dream in Static, the group's conceptual mission statement, is a story of purposeful sacrifice and existential yearning told across sweeping instrumental movements interwoven with adventurous vocal compositions featuring premier voices from across the rock and metal worlds.

"Earthside is excited and very proud to finally be releasing our debut album A Dream in Static," commented keyboardist Frank Sacramone. "This record has been incubating for several years now between initial writing and demoing all the way through nailing down a release date. Along the way we've worked with so many different artists across disciplines and across continents. Now the fruits of our global project finally get to see the light of day and hopefully move listeners in a similarly meaningful way as the music moved us and our collaborators."

The Mute Gods announce debut album 'Do Nothing Till You Hear From Me'

InsideOut Music recently announced the signing of The Mute Gods, a brand new band from the mind of renowned bassist, chapman stick player & vocalist Nick Beggs alongside drummer Marco Minnemann (Steven Wilson), and long-time Steve Hackett collaborator & keyboardist Roger King. Now it has been revealed that their debut album 'Do Nothing Till Your Hear From Me' will be released January 22nd, 2016, and you can find the enigmatic artwork for the record, created by Lars 'Zeituhr" Tellmann, above.

Nick Beggs had this to say:
"The record has a number of moods. But overall, it's a rather disgruntled rant at the dystopia we've created for ourselves and our children. The song "Swimming Horses" is a warning about the passing of time and the rising of tides. "Feed the Troll" is a dedication to all those who have too much time on their hands.
The person who has helped me realize this record is Roger King. We worked together for quite a few years in the Steve Hackett band and when I approached him last year about producing, I was honored and surprised when he agreed. His strengths are my weaknesses and I believe we complement each other rather well.
But the public will have the final word on that.
After working extensively with the Steven Wilson band, I invited Marco Minnemann to play drums for me. Although I have a couple of other guest drummers like Nick D'Virgilio and Gary O'Toole, Marco is playing on the majority of tracks. He also added his genius with some sound modeling and guitar.
Sonically, you can expect an album that tips its hat in the direction of alternative rock and pop, due for release in early 2016."

Nick has most recently been involved with Steven Wilson's solo band, both in the studio and on tour, whilst also playing live with legendary guitarist Steve Hackett as part of his Genesis Revisited run of shows. In recent years he has contributed to projects such as Lifesigns, Fish On Friday & Lonely Robot, as well as playing live with Rick Wakeman.

The Mute Gods have also launched a brand new website which will be updated with new content and information on how the band came together in the coming months.

Groundbreaking Percussionist From Electronic Pioneers KRAFTWERK Releases Anthology Of Recent Works!

Los Angeles, CA - As the electronic percussionist during Kraftwerk's peak of creativity, Wolfgang Flür's place among the pioneers of modern music is assured. Kraftwerk's computerized rhythms and deceptively simple beats, which produced such classics as "Autobahn," "Showroom Dummies," "Trans-Europe Express," and "The Model," made them one of the most influential bands of the 20th century. But Flür's influence extends even beyond his creative musical talents to include his technological gifts as exemplified by his co-inventing of the first ever electronic drum pad, alongside Kraftwerk founder Florian Schneider, which Flür put to good use both in Kraftwerk's stage show as well as studio recordings. Now, a new collection of Flür's solo recordings from the last decade is about to see release in the US on Cleopatra Records October 30.

The collection, entitled Eloquence, kicks off with the highly autobiographical track "I Was A Robot," which hit #6 on the German club charts upon its initial release in 2004. Immediately following is a stunning quasi-sequel to the Kraftwerk classic "The Model" called "Cover Girl." In contrast to the cold, calculating compositions of his former band, Flür's solo work is densely layered and veers more toward the warmth of house music with the catchiness of techno. This collection also features a number of prominent guest producers including Nitzer Ebb's Bon Harris and Meat Beat Manifesto's Jack Dangers as well as Pizzicato Five vocalist Nomiya Maki. Kraftwerk fans and anyone looking for some superbly crafted electronic music will not want to miss this exciting release.

Track List
1. I Was A Robot
2. Cover Girl (The Ninjaneer Mix)
3. On The Beam
4. Blue Spark
5. Staying in the Shadow with Jack Dangers
6. Moda Makina (Fashion Machine) with Ramón Amezcua
7. Beat Perfecto
8. Axis of Envy with Bon Harris
9. Best Friend's Birthday
10. Pleasure Lane

Metal Icon THOR Unleashes Pure Metal Vengeance With Help From A Host Of His Punk/Hard Rock Superstar Friends, Debuts New Video On Metal Hammer!

Features guests Henry Rollins, Fast Eddie Clarke, Cheetah Chrome, Jay Jay French, Joe "Shithead" Keithley and more!

Los Angeles, CA - After a year that saw a deluxe reissue of his career-launching 1983 album Unchained as well as seeing his life's story retold in the documentary film I AM THOR, which has been picking up awards at such prestigious film festivals as Slamdance and Fantasia Fest, metal legend Jon Mikl THOR is capping off one of the biggest years of his career with the release of his newest studio album Metal Avenger on October 30! Joining the metal savior on this epic recording is a slew of luminaries from both the rock and punk worlds including powerhouse vocalist Henry Rollins, Motörhead guitarist Fast Eddie Clarke, Dead Boy Cheetah Chrome, Twister Sister axeman Jay Jay French, Christian Death guitarist Rikk Agnew, D.O.A.'s own Joey Shithead plus Ritchy Stotts of Plasmatics, Betsy Bitch and many others! The album will be available on both CD as well as a limited edition "blood red" vinyl pressing courtesy of Deadline Music!

"This is my most ambitious and best album in the history of my career," THOR states boldly. Reteaming with producers Bruce Duff (Twisted Roots) and Frank Meyer (Streetwalkin' Cheetahs), the group began writing new material and "came up with the concept of the 'Metal Avenger' whereby each song represents THOR's quest to overcome the overlords of the planet Psykon and free the slaves on the master ship. There is adventure, intrigue and love in the lyrics and story. But most of all there is strength in the music. These songs are HEAVY yet melodic." Recording took place at Kitten Robot studios with engineer Paul Roessler (The Screamers, 45 Grave) behind the board. Speaking of his guest performers, THOR offers, "I was very fortunate to perform with these incredible musicians who are each superhero characters in their own right. With my Comrades of Metal, I feel more powerful than ever!"

Check out the world premiere of the "Metal Avenger" video at Metal Hammer starting Friday!

Catch THOR perform live along with screenings of his documentary at these following locations:

Nov 20 - Philadelphia, PA - PhillyMOCA
Nov 22 - Brooklyn, NY - Saint Vitus Bar

THOR originated in the early '70s with body building champion and former Mr. USA Jon Mikl Thor, and quickly gained a devout following thanks in part to the band's elaborate and supremely entertaining live shows, which frequently featured Jon performing not just outstanding anthems of metal but also astounding feats of strength - bending steel bars with his teeth and exploding water bottles with his lungs! Jon would go on to appear on the Merv Griffin Show, which led to the licensing deal with RCA in late 1976 and the release of their debut album Keep The Dogs Away the following year. But it wasn't until the group's 1984 EP Unchained and the follow-up full-length album, Only The Strong, that Jon Mikl & Co. really began to flex their muscles. Those releases contained the now classic songs such as "Lightning Strikes," "Anger," "Let The Blood Run Red" and "Thunder On The Tundra," which earned the band a truly international following. Through the years that following has grown and solidified as new generations of classic metal heads discover the awesome power of the mighty THOR!

Captain Beefheart “Live in Cowtown, Kansas City 22nd April 1974” Rare Radio Broadcast Now Available!

London, UK – In their ongoing series of rare concert recordings, Gonzo Multimedia just released on CD Captain Beefeart "Live in Cowtown, Kansas City 22nd April 1974." Don Van Vliet (born Don Glen Vliet; January 15, 1941 – December 17, 2010) was an American musician, singer-songwriter, artist and poet known by the stage name Captain Beefheart. His musical work was conducted with a rotating ensemble of musicians called the Magic Band (1965–1982), with whom he recorded 13 studio albums. Noted for his powerful singing voice with its wide range, Van Vliet also played the harmonica, saxophone and numerous other wind instruments. His music blended rock, blues and psychedelia with avant-garde and contemporary experimental composition. Beefheart was also known for exercising an almost dictatorial control over his supporting musicians, and for often constructing myths about his life.

During his teen years in Lancaster, California, Van Vliet developed an eclectic musical taste and formed friendship with Frank Zappa, with whom he sporadically collaborated. He began performing with his Captain Beefheart persona in 1964 and joined the original Magic Band line-up, initiated by Alexis Snouffer, in 1965. The group drew attention with their cover of Bo Diddley's "Diddy Wah Diddy", which became a regional hit. It was followed by their acclaimed debut album 'Safe As Milk', released in 1967 on Buddah Records. After being dropped by two consecutive record labels, they signed to Zappa's Straight Records. As producer, Zappa granted Beefheart unrestrained artistic freedom in making 1969's 'Trout Mask Replica', which ranked 58th in Rolling Stone magazine's 2003 list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. In 1974, frustrated by lack of commercial success, he released two albums of more conventional rock music that were critically panned; this move, combined with not having been paid for a European tour, and years of enduring Beefheart's strict discipline, led the entire band to quit. Beefheart eventually formed a new Magic Band with a group of younger musicians and regained contemporary approval through three final albums: 'Shiny Beast (Bat Chain Puller)' (1978), 'Doc At The Radar Station' (1980) and 'Ice Cream For Crow' (1982).

Van Vliet has been described as "...one of modern music's true innovators" with "...a singular body of work virtually unrivaled in its daring and fluid creativity." Although he achieved little commercial or mainstream critical success, he sustained a cult following as a 'highly significant' and 'incalculable' influence on an array of New Wave, punk, post-punk, experimental and alternative rock musicians. Known for his enigmatic personality and relationship with the public, Van Vliet made few public appearances after his retirement from music (and from his Beefheart persona) in 1982. He pursued a career in art, an interest that originated in his childhood talent for sculpture, and a venture that proved to be his most financially secure. His expressionist paintings and drawings command high prices, and have been exhibited in art galleries and museums across the world. Van Vliet died in 2010, having suffered from multiple sclerosis for many years.

Isis magazine describes this recording of Captain Beefheart live in Kansas City in 1974: "There are very few truly iconoclastic figures in the history of popular music since the mid 20th century, but Don Van Vliet (1941-2010), aka Captain Beefheart, is certainly one of them. By the time of this April 1974 broadcast, Captain Beefheart - and the 29th incarnation in a long line of ever-mutating Magic Bands - had reverted to more traditionally-structured compositions, to the chagrin of some fans. The touring band included some highly revered players including reedsman Del Simmons, who had previously played with Charlie Parker, guitarists Dean Smith and Fuzzy Fuscaldo (recently with Curtis Mayfield), bassist Paul Uhrig from Bobbie Gentry's group, and drummer Ty Grimes, fresh from Rick Nelson's acclaimed Stone Canyon Band. Caught live in Kansas City, Beefheart was amidst an extensive US (and subsequent European) tour promoting his eighth album, 'Unconditionally Guaranteed'. The often truculent Beefheart is in an unusually upbeat mood throughout."

New Autobiography by Wishbone Ash Guitarist Andy Powell “Eyes Wide Open: True Tales Of A Wishbone Ash Warrior” Now Available!

Written by Andy Powell with Colin Harper
Foreword by Ian Rankin

Five decades of life on the road, in the studio, and in the courtroom with progressive-rock pioneers Wishbone Ash

London, UK - In 1969, Andy Powell was one of four founding members of progressive rock pioneers Wishbone Ash. Forty-six years later, with no sabbaticals, he is still a member of Wishbone Ash. And he's seen a lot of interesting things along the way.

Watching the birth of rock 'n' roll in the 50's; stepping into the swinging 60's mod scene as a teenager; touring the States with The Who; selling hundreds of thousands of copies of Argus; being managed by industry legend Miles Copeland; outliving punk and moving to America; battling former bandmates over the right to use the name Wishbone Ash, and fighting to keep that name alive through changing tastes and styles—Andy Powell has been there, done it, and seen it all. And he's still doing it today.

Honest, unpretentious, and often wryly amusing, Eyes Wide Open is not just the story of one man's adventures in music but also a journey through some of the most thrilling years of rock history.

"It's a great pleasure to be able to say that the man behind the Flying V can write a bit, too." —Ian Rankin

Andy Powell is a songwriter and guitarist best known as the founding and sole remaining original member of Wishbone Ash. Born in Stepney, London, in 1950, he now lives in the USA with Pauline, his wife of forty-plus years.

Colin Harper is the author of Dazzling Stranger: Bert Jansch And The British Folk And Blues Revival (2000), Bathed In Lightning: John McLaughlin, The 60s, And The Emerald Beyond (2014), and The Wheels Of The World: 300 Years Of Irish Uilleann Pipers (2015).

GAZPACHO new album "MOLOK"

Art-rock progressive outfit Gazpacho is set to release its new albumMolok on Friday, October 23rd through Kscope. The band formed in Oslo in 1996 by childhood friends Jon-Arne Vilbo and Thomas Andersen along with Jan-Henrik Ohme (later joined by Mikael Krømer, Lars Erik Asp and Kristian Torp) and released their debut album Bravo in 2003. Signing to Kscope in 2010, the band released their sixth album Missa Atropos followed by March of Ghosts in 2012 and the acclaimed Demon in 2014.

With new album Molok the band continues to push the boundaries for creating the most complicated and strangest concepts for a record while simultaneously becoming the first band ever who are actively trying to destroy the universe with this new record release.

A small code that sounds like a strange noise at the end of the album will cause the correction software that runs in all CD players to generate a random number every time the CD is played. If that number should correspond to the actual position of all electrons in the universe then technically the universe could be destroyed.

Dr. Adam Washington from the University of Sheffield confirms that this is science fact rather than fiction, 'the random signal produced by the end of the disk contains enough bits of information to express a measurement of the total number of fundamental particles present in the universe. This would greatly hasten the practical end of the universe.'

Of course you may wonder why a band would want to destroy the universe but as the band ask, 'If it can be destroyed by such minute creatures within it, if it is just a chemical reaction, then does it have any spiritual value? In this scenario there is no good or bad, just an absence of meaning`

Across the album there are religious themes going head to head with modern day new science ideas and theories, Gazpacho's Thomas Andersen states, 'the album itself is about a man that sometime around 1920 decides that wherever anyone worships a God they always seem to be worshipping stone in some form. Whether it is a grand cathedral, the stone in Mecca or Stonehenge. God seems to have been chased by his worshipers into stone never to return. This harkens back to Norwegian folk myths where if a troll was exposed to sunlight it would turn to stone but it also reflects the way God has been incommunicado for a very long time.'

The band go on to say, 'In a mechanistic view of the universe all events in the universe are a consequence of a previous event. This means that with enough information you should be able to calculate the past and the future and this is what he does. He names the machine 'Molok' after the biblical demon into whose jaws children were sacrificed because his machine crunches numbers.

On solstice day he starts the machine and it quickly gainssome form of intelligence as it races through history undergoing its own evolution.'

Throughout Molok, the band focuses on the idea that without God to guide us, humanity is unsure of the meaning of life, that while we attempt to fill the void with other things we've still not found the answer and without a master to lean on we are very much alone in this universe.

On the record, Gazpacho makes a direct connection with history. Norwegian music archaeologist Gjermund Kolltveit appears on the song "Molok Rising" plays his reconstruction of stone-age instruments making an educated guess at what the early songs of worship must have sounded like.

Molok will be released on CD, vinyl and digitally with the CD version featuring an additional instrumental track 'Algorithm'.

PLASTIC OVERLORDS RELEASE CONCERT FILM AND CONCEIVE NEW TRIPLE DISC EPIC WHILE ABANDONING ATTEMPTS TO MIX WHALE BLUBBER INTO VINYL

Breaking a three-year silence, Plastic Overlords are releasing an hour-long TV concert that includes never-before-heard songs from what the band plans to be the "ultimate headphones album" on triple vinyl.
Their concert film, "Plastic Overlords – LIVE Under the Mountain" on YouTube will be posted on October 16, 2015. Reminiscent of such classic rock shows as Beat Club, TopPops, and MusikLaden, "Live Under the Mountain" features vivid, surrealistic visuals as guitarist John Eades, drummer Brad Johnson, and vocalist/bassist/keyboardist David Noel perform "A Moment of Silence for Unsynchronized Watches," "You Crumble to Bits," and "Star Avenger vs. the Winged Hippopotamus" and a teaser of new songs from the group's epic work-in-progress, "Surrender, Capricorn".

The Overlords recently completed a demo version of "Surrender, Capricorn" and seek support to release the final version on vinyl.  "We're surprisingly happy with the demos," said Noel, who produced the recordings. "It would be tempting to release them digitally, as our vision of a special triple record release is ambitious for a group as obscure as we are. But this album begs to be realized on vinyl and produced properly. We pushed ourselves beyond anything we've done before. It's taken three long years to develop. Only a few groups have ever attempted a triple vinyl studio release, but we feel these songs go together in a special way."

After 2012's well-received Sonic Astronomy earned them comparisons to classic Pink Floyd, Rush, Hawkwind, Genesis, and even David Bowie, the Overlords originally envisioned a massive follow-up concept album called "Whale Blubber." Intended as a tongue-in-cheek response to Brian Eno's now famous proclamation that "recorded music equals whale blubber," the group even conceived a special release with real whale blubber melted into the pressing.  Coming to their senses, the group decided simply to make "the ultimate headphones album." The result is "Surrender, Capricorn" – an arresting blend of melody, power, trippy ear sweets, cryptic lyrics, and even a hidden message or two. The record's subtle and mysterious concept is likely to elude many, and begs multiple interpretations as to the overall meaning. But one thing is clear: it's a record that's meant to take you somewhere in your mind.

And the Overlords sincerely hope that doesn't equal whale blubber.
