MJ12 Featuring Bass Legend Percy Jones To Release Debut Album!

MJ12 Featuring Bass Legend Percy Jones To Release Debut Album!

London, UK - MJ12, featuring Brand X bass legend Percy Jones, will be releasing their eagerly awaited debut album on Gonzo Multimedia UK on June 24, 2016. Recorded in the summer of 2015 at Shelter Island studios in Manhattan, MJ12 is jazz/fusion/prog music at its finest. Featuring virtuosic performances by all four band members, in many ways this album is an extension of what Percy Jones created with Brand X!

Says Percy, "We took the name from Majestik 12, which was supposedly a group of 12 scientists and engineers assembled in the late 40's to investigate UFO's. There is an ongoing debate as to whether this group actually existed or not. Stephen Moses and I had been doing  gigs for a while where we would invite  guests to sit in. We did all improv, so this was actually M&J +1 or 2.  After a while we started using David Phelps and Chris Bacas on a regular basis if they were available. At this point we started writing stuff, but keeping a lot of the improv thing going to keep it spontaneous. The end result was bits and pieces of ideas coming from everybody that were all tied together to try and make a coherent tune, but with lots of blowing inside. By last Summer we felt like it had shaped up well enough to record it, so we went in and recorded it over 2 days."

Track listing:

1) Call 911
2) Bad American Dream Pt2
3) Magic Mist
4) Talk Time
5) The Wow Signal
6) Big Daddy Road
7) The Phantom Maracas
8) Guns And Pussy
9) Magic Mist Reprise

MJ12 is:

Percy Jones
Percy Jones grew up near Llandrindod Wells, Wales. He studied electronic engineering at the University of Liverpool before joining Liverpool Scene in 1967 He was a member of jazz fusion band Brand X from 1974 to 1980, and a reformed version which lasted from 1992 to 1997. He was in NYC based band Tunnels from 1990 until 2005. Still residing in New York, he is currently a member of MJ12. Jones is best known for his unique fretless bass sound. Jones was also briefly a member of the jazz fusion group Soft Machine, and has contributed to recordings by David Sylvian, Brian Eno, Steve Hackett, Roy Harper, Paranoise, Suzanne Vega, Richard Barbieri, Nova and Fovea Hex, amongst others.

Stephen Moses
After several years playing as part of "the loft jazz scene" in NYC with the likes of James Chance, John Zorn, Phillip Johnston, Ken Simon, Dave Hofstra (and many others) drummer/trombonist Stephen Moses started getting busier with more rock and jazz/rock in the CBGB's scene with Giant Metal Insects and Quality Trio with Jim Matus & Percy Jones. Alice Donut formed after that and took Stephen on the road and the studio for several years and a dozen albums followed by a few tours with Rasputina. Then a few years ago Stephen rejoined Percy to do what we do today.

Dave Phelps
Guitarist David Phelps is currently a member of Peter Apfelbaum's 11-piece band The New York Hieroglyphics, which includes many of today's best creative musicians, including drummer Dafnis Prieto, bassist Patrice Blanchard, trombonist Josh Roseman and vocalist Abdoulaye Diabate. Their newest album "It Is Written" was released in August 2005 on the ACT label. He also leads his own band the Eclectic Troubadours. David grew up in Denton, Texas, the home of the University of North Texas, formerly known as North Texas State. As a youngster, he started playing the bass clarinet and later played in bands with many of the children of North Texas faculty members. David, along with his twin brother, bassist Drew Phelps, attended North Texas, studying with Rich Matheson and guitar guru Jack Peterson, among others. David then traveled to Alberta, Canada where he studied at the Banff Centre with jazz greats Dave Liebman and Dave Holland (both Miles Davis alumni). He also studied with John Abercrombie, Steve Coleman and Kenny Wheeler.

Chris Bacas
Saxophonist Chris Bacas began his career at age fifteen as a sideman with a club band in York, PA, and after attending North Texas State, he began his jazz performance career in earnest. Beginning in 1983, Chris played in the Glen Miller Band, The Tommy Dorsey Band, the Artie Shaw Band, and Buddy Rich's legendary Big Band until Rich's passing in 1987. Over the past twenty years, Chris has appeared at festivals all over the world, including the Nice, North Sea, Cork, Santiago, Montreal, Moers Texaco, Annapolis, JVC New York, and Central PA Jazz Festivals. He has performed in Copenhagen at the Tivoli Gardens; in Los Angeles at The Hollywood Bowl and LA's Comedy Store; in New York's Blue Note and Birdland; at Chicago's Jazz Showcase; and in Washington D.C. at Blues Alley and One Step Down.

In conclusion Percy has this to impart, "Well, I hope people like this record. I have a lot of appreciation for everyone who supported Brand X back in the day, or any of the other projects I was involved in. The band follows on from stuff  I've done in the past, trying to keep the music unpredictable, interesting and moving in a  new direction."

The album is available for pre-order here;

FATES WARNING vocalist Ray Alder checked in to comment about "Theories Of Flight" as follows:

"We began writing the music for "Theories" while we were still touring for "Darkness"...
I believe that the anticipation to write another record was due to the fact that we were once again touring and playing new material after nine years of playing the same songs.
It was exciting to be on stage again and we looked forward to getting back in the studio.
I also believe that our fans were happy to finally having something new to listen to..

I/we are very happy with the way that "Theories" turned out. Jim and I collaborated practically every day on the new album for over a year until we actually went into the studio.. There were many different versions of the songs until they were finally complete, and I believe it shows in the final product. I think that Jim did an excellent job producing the new album. The material is, I believe heavier than what people are used to from us, as well as my vocal style. We wanted something different than "Darkness" but something that still carried a lot of melody."

Theories Of Flight" comes packaged with artwork created by Michigan artist Graceann Warn / www.graceannwarn.com

THE HUMAN EQUATION STORY
After a mysterious single-car accident, the victim - a man in his late 30s - lies comatose in the hospital. Before the accident he was a powerful businessman, wildly successful by any measure but also known for his cutthroat business tactics. Now he finds himself trapped in a prison that took him a lifetime to build: the prison of his own mind.

Guarding the prison are his emotions, which have taken on vivid personas inside his mind. Some are friends, some are foes, and they all have their own agendas. Some aim to trick him or dominate him, others to comfort or inspire him. But the one objective they all share is to force him to face up to the demons of his past and the deep truths about who he is and how he's lived his life, all of which he's conveniently ignored until now. Fear, Rage, Agony, Love, Passion, Reason and Pride take turns engaging the man in this emotional warfare.

Two people hold vigil at the man's bedside: his wife and his best friend. They are desperate to understand how the accident happened and to see even the tiniest sign that the man will regain consciousness. But the man's recovery is not their only concern: is it possible that he somehow found out their secret, and that the "accident" wasn't really an accident at all? Would he ever be able to forgive them?

Will the man have the strength to face the truth about himself and the ones he loves? The story unfolds over his twenty-day emotional struggle with Fear, Rage, Agony, Love, Passion, Reason and Pride, in which each day of coma is represented by a song.

Look out for more information in the weeks!

VIVALDI METAL PROJECT: Press Release + first single on iTunes!

The pre-sale for the CD digi-pack will start during this week. The download on iTunes and the first instant grat for the track "The Age Of Dreams" already is available at this link:

A double vinyl release of "The Four Seasons" will be scheduled for a release in September 2016.

The project is a symphonic-metal opera based on Antonio Vivaldi's Baroque masterwork "The Four Seasons", featuring more than 130 amazing metal and classical artists, orchestra, a string quartet and three choirs from all over the world. The album features 14 tracks - all the movements from Antonio Vivaldi's original score plus two original new songs written by MISTHERIA. The impressive roster of artists probably makes this titanic album the biggest all-star project ever!

Back in 2013, MISTHERIA started thinking about making a metal version of "The Four Seasons", a masterpiece that he loved and kept listening to since his childhood. MISTHERIA started to play and record all the movements on the piano but then felt that a parallel symphonic-metal version would have been the perfect continuation. Therefore, he recorded and uploaded a short trailer on the web to start engaging musicians. A few days later, Italian bassist and composer Alberto Rigoni (solo artist, TwinSpirits, Kim Bingham, The Italians, BADASS), who had already collaborated with Mistheria by recording bass on his previous solo album "Dragon Fire", learned about the project and contacted MISTHERIA offering his support to work on the project as co-producer. Also, MISTHERIA made the "innovative" choice - never done so far - to add lyrics and singers to "The Four Seasons" which, as composed by Vivaldi, is an instrumental work. For this important task, he invited Douglas R. Docker who perfectly translated the producer's concept into brilliant lyrics. Additional lyrics were written by Mistheria, Rob Rock and Lance King.

A cast of 10 awesome arrangers joined MISTHERIA creating epic and memorable music, combining a standard metal band lineup with strings, orchestra and choir: Douglas R. Docker, Francesco Dall'O', Frank Caruso, Gabriels, Keiko Kumagai, Nicolas Waldo, Pawel Penksa, Tomas Varnagiris, Yannis Androulakakis and Zhivko Koev.

The cast furthermore includes performances by Mark Boals (Malmsteen, Royal Hunt), Fabio Lione (Rhapsody of Fire, Angra), Edu Falaschi (Almah), Rob Rock (Impellitteri), Mike Lepond (SymhonyX), Dani Löble (Helloween), Ruud Jolie (Within Temptation), Mark Cross (Firewind, Scorpions), Steve Di Giorgio (Testament), Rolf Pilve (Stratovarius), Victor Smolski (Rage, Almanac), Ruben Israel (Delain), John Macaluso (ARK), Marco Sfogli (James Labrie), Chris Caffery (Savatage), Mark Wood (Trans Siberian Orchestra), Dirk Verbeuren (Soilwork), Atma Anur (Tony MacAlpine), Vitalij Kuprij, Anna Portalupi (Tarja Turunen), Sean Tibbetts (Kamelot), Martijn Peters (Stream of Passion) and many more.

It took more than 2 years of intensive non-stop hard work to get the album done. Mixed and mastered by Ivan Moni Bidin at "Artesonika" recording studio in Italy and assisted by Fabio D'Amore, the album is a full 74 minutes of intense, passionate, fascinating, powerful and majestic experience!

Production, ideation, concept and artistic direction by MISTHERIA. Co-produced by Alberto Rigoni.

Greek progressive band Gravitysays_i tease their upcoming full-length with the album's epic closing track.

Gravitysays_i is a six member band from Piraeus, Greece. With two albums under their belt, their music stretches from prog-rock & ambient to post-rock with a traditional eastern flair (Give attention to the sound of the traditional instrument "Santur"). The song is the first single from their upcoming album, "Quantum Unknown" which comes out this fall via Inner Ear.

"Quantum Unknown" is the result of four years of recordings and intense experimentation of the band in new fields of music and lyrics. This time, the band's themes play with every knowledgeable form in an attempt to escape from the human gaze itself. Music-wise the experimental and electronic element replaces the electric effusions of their previous work.

Gravitysays_i - Quantum Unknown (Riveted Eye)

                                             SoundCloud / YouTube

"Prepare thy self for a journey into what feels like the sci-fi unknown or some kind of elaborate catacombs where moody sound serves as your compass & lantern" - Impose

"Spanning several sections, from its ambient intro to hypnotic passages to soaring guitars to chilling dips into moments of stillness" - Allmusic

Gravitysays_i was formed in March of 2003 by Manos Paterakis and Nikos Retsos in Piraeus. Their debut album entitled "The Roughest Sea" (2007) was released on Sirius, the label founded by the famous Greek composer Manos Hadjidakis. It consists of nine compositions inspired by the egotism, vanity and isolation of modern man. It is a conceptual album characterized by consecutive flow, where the electronic element meets traditional instrumentation, while minimalistic forms follow the general pop-rock spirit. Their sophomore album entitled "The Figures of Enormous Grey and The Patterns of Fraud", released in 2011 (Restless Wind) is different, with regard to its theme, as it re-examines social values, institutions and morality as an extension of individual, as well as collective conscience. This time, their sound follows a more traditional / Mediterranean audio vocabulary, while, at the same time, the dark, atmospheric elements become even more apparent.
In 2016, after a period of absence, they are back to present live their new album ''Quantum Unknown'', which will be released this fall via Inner Ear Records.

The current Gravitysays_i line-up is:
Manos Paterakis (vocals, santur, guitar)
Nikos Retsos (drums, synths)
Mampre Kasardjian (bass)
Nikos Sotiropoulos (guitar)
Costas Stergiou (keyboards)
Vangelis Κatsarelis (trumpet)

FROST* premiere video for 'Numbers'

FROST* premiere video for 'Numbers'

Frost* release their long-awaited new album 'Falling Satellites' this Friday, and they have now launched a brand new video for the track 'Numbers'.
Produced by Crystal Spotlight, you can watch the video now here:

Jem Godfrey had this to say about the video: "Us being us, we wanted to try something a bit different for the Numbers video that would make it more interesting visually than just 4 blokes in a room wobbling about so we shot everything using bit of software called DepthKit via a Kinect sensor. This enabled us to create 3d modelled versions of ourselves that could continue to freely be rotated, moved and manipulated even after filming was completed. The render times were horrendous, but Crystal Spotlight did an incredible job putting it all together. I think the end result is magnificently Frost*-ish and suits the song very well".

Stu Hamm - Bass Player Extraordinaire - Brings His Rock Experience to the U.S This Summer...

HE STU HAMM ROCK EXPERIENCE ANNOUNCES

U.S. TOUR DATES

FEATURING SOME OF HAMM'S GREATEST HITS

All-Star Trio Also Features Korean Sensation - Kim Sehwang

on Guitar and Jeff Bowders on Drums

(Los Angeles) – STU HAMM has been THE go-to bass player for the world's great musicians. Time spent playing with Steve Vai and Joe Satriani has cemented his place among the greats and gave HAMM the platform to display his pioneering bass techniques to adoring crowds worldwide.  Now, HAMM brings the "Greatest Rock Hits" of his long career to the road.  Forming HAMM's All-Star Rock trio are Jeff Bowders (Paul Gilbert, George Lynch, Ritchie Kotzen) on drums and on guitar, Korean Super Star Kim SeHwang, the most popular and influential rock guitarist to ever emerge from Asia. The STU HAMM Rock Experience begins in Phoenix, AZ on June 22 and plays 26 total shows in one month, ending in Sebastopol, CA on July 22 (Full tour itinerary below).

In regards to taking his talents on the road with this new trio this summer, why now?  STU responds, "Well, I finally decided to give the folks what they want, and it felt like a good time to revisit some of my favorite musical moments of my career...and to RAAAAWKK. Fans are always yelling "Play a Polka" and asking for Linus and Lucy, so here it comes y'all!"

As for the set list on this outing, "fans of my work with Satch can expect highlights from "Live in San Francisco" as well as those songs of his that really featured yours truly."  In addition, "Vai fans can count on hearing songs from my work on his FLEXABLE, PASSION & WARFARE albums."

HAMM has traveled the world from Boston to Belfast to Budapest, Bali and Berlin. He's performed in a 19th century circus tent with Joan Baez, and recorded a duet of "Do Right Woman" with her. HAMM  has performed with Mick Jagger, played sold out shows at Royal Albert Hall and in front of 120,000 people in Mexico City with a Mexican Rock Band.

Hamm graduated from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he met guitarist Steve Vai and, through him, met Joe Satriani. He played bass on Vai's 1984 debut solo album, Flex-Able and in 1990 Hamm was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Degree from his Alma Mater.  He has performed and recorded with Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, Michael Shenker, Frank Gambale, and many other well-respected guitarists, however, it was playing live on tour with Satriani that brought Hamm's skills to national attention.  Subsequent recordings with Satriani and other rock/fusion artists along with the release of his own solo recordings (featuring keyboard player Tommy Mars, guitarists Alan Holdsworth and Robert Fripp, drummers Steve Smith and Tommy Lee), solidified his reputation as a bassist and performer.

Kim SeHwang was inducted to Guitar Center Hollywood's Rock Walk of Fame and was the first musician from South Korea to have an endorsement deal with an international instrument company 1997. He has now become the major artist for such top brands as Yamaha, Orange Amps, D'Addario strings, BOSS(Roland), Carvin, EMG, Tronical, and Suhr. Kim SeHwang has collaborated with the London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and was invited to perform with I Musico di Roma for their 60th anniversary tour. He is a currently a member of the faculty at Kimpo University. Kim SeHwang has performed and collaborated with musicians such as Stuart Hamm, Steve Vai, Scott Henderson, Martin Taylor, Lee Ritenour, Vinnie Moore, Guthrie Govan, Loudness, and Akira Jimbo (Casiopea) among others.

Hamm says, "If you are a fan of Joe Satriani and Steve Vai's playing style, you have GOT to check out Kim SeHwang, you will LOVE this guy!"
