Steven Wilson - Grace For Drowning - double vinyl edition (double vinyl)

Grace For Drowning is Steven Wilson's second album and develops further the uncompromising creativity evident on his highly regarded debut, Insurgentes.

A double album ("Two 40-45 minute albums in the same package."), Wilson describes the release as, "My biggest project to date."

Wilson adds, "Insurgentes was an important step for me into something new. This record takes that as a starting point, but it's more experimental and more eclectic. For me, the golden period for music was the late sixties and early seventies, when the album became the primary means of artistic expression, when musicians liberated themselves from the 3 minute pop song format, and started to draw on jazz and classical music especially, combining it with the spirit of psychedelia to create "journeys in sound" I guess you could call them. So, without being retro, my album is a kind of homage to that spirit. There's everything from [Ennio] Morricone-esque film themes to choral music to piano ballads to a 23 minute progressive jazz–inspired piece. I've actually used a few jazz musicians this time, which is something I picked up from my work remixing the King Crimson records."

The limited vinyl edition features both 'albums' on heavyweight (180gm) vinyl in a gatefold sleeve. It also comes with a drop card containing a code to download a digital version of the album.

K.Page and Sleepwalker's Parade - Between the Bridges

K. Page & Sleepwalker's Parade is a exciting Brooklyn based band that has been making waves in the US and UK indie scenes since 2007. The band plays regularly at great NYC spots like Brooklyn Academy of Music's, BAM Cafe, where the likes of Nic Cave, Lou Reed, and Tom Waits have graced the main stage.

Working against a backbone of taught and intelligent lyrics to combine rhythms that move through bent up rock and punk balladry, they've been compared to Patti Smith, Peggy Lee, Henry Rollins, and rockin' jazz greats, The Bad Plus. But, K.Page and Sleepwalker's Parade use their own brand of genre combustion and incorporates elements of improvisation, punked -out delivery, and textured solos, into a unique sound.

With Harvey Valdes on guitar, Josh Myers on bass, Adriane Palikat on drums, and K.Page on vocals, the band has cut their musical teeth by playing in the past and present with members of Antony and the Johnsons, Meredith Monk Ensemble, The Saturday Night Live Band, Carmine Appice, and The Wooster Group.

Their single "Sleepwalker", from an earlier EP, spent nine weeks in the top 10 on Ison Live Radio charts out of Australia where it moved from #8 to #3, a spot it held for two weeks. This same single is a featured track is featured on Magnetmix.com, the selective content site associated with LIMEWIRE. "Naked and Naive", from our 2007 album Green City, was chosen for inclusion on the BUZZLIGHTER compilation put out by Shut Eye Records here in the States and  on a new compilation disc put out by RF Records in Manchester, UK targeted at promotion in the European market.

The Village Voice has praised band leader and lead vocalist, K.Page, for her "eerie vocalese", while the band's previous album, Green City, was called "a break from robotic indoe rock...unique and individualistic" by US national magazine, The Big Takeover. Their newest release, Between the Bridges, delivers more edgy and unique sounds to  adventurous music lovers!

Split Sofa - The Gathering UK 'Progressive Rock'

Two Side Moon Promotions are excited to welcome to the team UK Progressive Rocker's SPLIT SOFA

Split Sofa is a psychedelic pop band based in Doveridge (Derbyshire) by singer songwriter Lewie Docksey in 1999.

The band record their own material under a genre they call ' Sofa Rock' and have released to date 6 albums & 2 EP's.

Formation (1999-Present) . October 1999 saw the band release their debut maxi EP called 'ANGERLISTIC PILLOW' which contained all original songs. Between 2000 and 2001 the band built their own recording studio in Doveridge called 'The Shack', the band then set about recording their first full album of original material Called 'THE DAY AFTER THE DAY BEFORE' featured Mick Strode (Band of Joy / Forevermore) on Lead guitar, the album was picked up by local DJ Paul Baker on Burton On trent's Phoenix radio and was played with Lewie being invited to talk about Split Sofa and tracks played on the afternoon show.

2005 saw the release of ' THE SORCERERS LULLABY' which again featured Mick Strode on lead guitar this again was played on radio Phoenix will another visit to the studio, again the album was full of original songs. The album signified a change in direction which Lewie was not happy with and as soon as the release date came around Lewie decided to write another album with a much harder edge.

The finished product was ' DRAYLON' released in 2006. With the departure of Mick Strode in 2005 Lewie bought in Martin Gilman to work on the next album 'THE SEVENTH LEVEL' and also bought in Gareth Williams on bass guitar.

Up until now the band were just a recording band and plans were set in place to get the band out there and perform their own songs to the public, An Ep was written while in the middle of recording 'THE SEVENTH LEVEL' called 'DARK DAZE' the band switched to Overdrive Studios to record this.

'THE SEVENTH LEVEL' was released in 2007 and was sent out to over 80 celebrities including Jamie Oliver, Pete Townsend, Chris Evans, Prince Charles & William & Harry. The band were delighted to hear off some of the celebrities who said that they liked the sofa sound, this gave the band a major boost and Sofa started to do live work in 2007 with a few gigs booked. The band went down really well and people really embraced the new original material.

By June of 2008 the band decided to take the band a step further at getting a publishing deal and formed Operation Duvet. The plan was to blanket bomb every single publishing company in the UK and the six month project was under taken with a brand new EP called 'A MYSTICAL REASON'  a publishing package being printed and sent off. Over 120 publishing companies were contacted with a few getting back to them telling them that even though they liked the songs and product times were hit hard in the music business and they should continue to push their music on the internet and live work. With this in mind Sofa contacted CD BABY and put the EP on their site, which in turn ended up on Itunes and various other downloadable websites.

With live work now being the focus the band started to get booked for music festivals and pub venues this still continues today. With the feedback from the music publishers Split Sofa decided to set up there own record label and publishing company called DAISY CHAIN SONGS in 2009 while still continuing to push there songs on the internet.

By 2010 the band again released another album called 'THE GATHERING' which CD BABY and Itunes helped to distribute and is still still selling well. After the release of the album the band have pushed to get live work with festivals lined up for 2011 and at the moment working on their seventh album 'COLOURED DREAM' with no released date set the band are continuing to push to get their unique sound heard.

Mandara - Empty Hearted EP 'Progressive Rock' ~ 'As seen in Fireworks Magazine UK'

Two Side Moon Promotions are excited to welcome to the team Florida's MANDARA

Born in New York and raised in the South, as a Buddhist in the Tennessee Bible Belt, Mandara grew up facing much religious persecution. This ostracization soon became the foundation for her music. By age 16 she had already dedicated most of her young life to encouraging people through her voice. Mandara was invited by Pepsi two years in a row to sing at Freedom Hall with audiences numbering over 100,000 people, as well as the first and second World Peace Concert at the Beck Black Heritage Center, and the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington D.C.

Mandara's early realization was to sing out, using the purity of her youth and the power of her legacy as the granddaughter of the heroic Imre Kovacs- leader of the People and freedom fighter, to charge into the culture and awaken the seeking spirit of those who have become bound in hopelessness. Wherever she sings people tell her she touches their inner lives and inspires them. Since she was 10 when a room full of rockers pounded the air with their fists for her, and when at 14 after her performance at the National Cherry Blossom Festival a Chinese family ran over to say how much she affected them; how different she was, or when just one Rolling Thunder member cried on her shoulder- Mandara has known what it feels like to provoke courage and create a bridge to their own future victories for those who listen.

As mentioned, Mandara is the granddaughter of Imre Kovacs, Hungarian Freedom Fighter, revolutionary, esteemed author, and Senior Editor of Radio Free Europe, who had established a democracy in Hungary, was threatened with execution by the authorities who felt his books provoked human rights, and escaped to America. He has a monument placed in Budapest and this year his biography was published. "My grandfather has always been a strong symbol for me and I carry his legacy close to heart," says Mandara.

Mandara is unique in rock music because she writes and performs songs that speak out for the protection of our civil liberties, overcoming the intolerance of our times, and strive to provoke in her audience the strength to overcome all personal obstacles. Infused in her music is the determination to be catalystic; encouraging individuals who hear it to be courageous and spiritually free. Each song she releases makes it to the top of independent music charts, two of which went to #1. Mandara states, "I have had fans from America and different countries throughout the world such as Greece, France, Israel, Germany, Iran, Indonesia, Pakistan, Australia, Norway, England, North Africa, and India contact me saying my music has impacted them greatly. One individual stated that one of my songs saved his life. This has thrilled me and sustains my determination."

She has experienced first hand the non-sleeping bigotry still fierce, hungry, and very much alive today. Her persona has grace and grandeur; her voice projects the power of her heart to uplift. Therefore, she has set out to reassure our nation and encourage the world, through the conviction, power, and enlightenment of Mandara, that from this moment on there can be a new beginning.

Her new promising rather enjoyable self-titled EP. The band play modern alternative rock with a progressive twist e twined with a retro vibe on such as the excellent 'Destiny Is Now' with its deep thought provoking lyrical content, musically the song comes over in the vein of Stevie Nicks and Janis Joplin - Fireworks Magazine, UK

Tracklisting:
1- Empty Hearted
2- Dragon's Fly

Artist: Mandara

Orion's Departure - The Light 'Progressive Rock

Two Side Moon Promotions are excited to welcome to the team Progressive Rocker's ORION'S DEPARTURE

Orion's Departure formed in the spring of 2009, when each member of the group was under the age of 17. Even though it took almost two years to come up with a name, Orion's Departure immediately began creating original music. No one outside the band had even heard the music until August 2010, when they opened for Randy McStine's Lo-Fi Resistance. After a great reception, the group teamed up with McStine and began recording The Light, which was released in May. The Light blends many different styles into one cohesive concept album, ranging from psychedelic to straight guitar rock.

The band has had very successful live shows in the New York area and has already begun working on new material for their next studio album.

Band Line Up:
Taylor Chadwick – Piano, Keyboards, Vocals
Spencer Rowell – Guitar, Vocals
Brendan Duran – Bass
Pete Gierlach – Drums

2- Orion's Departure

A small gift for you from T.S. Abhilash & Naveen

The creation of this song 'lonely I'm Crying' started over a phone call to my friend T.S. Abhilash one of my very closest friend from Cochin and the lyricist of this song. But sorry to tell u all that Abhilash passed away this june 2011. He will live through this song I hope... :)

Abhilash was a superb soul and a very caring person and my friend who could read the thoughts on my mind and help me put down those thoughts in a small piece of paper and make it into heart touching lines which helped me express my feelings through my music.

Here is the link for free mp3 download http://soundcloud.com/naveenjanthraper/lonelyimcrying  I hope u all spare some time and download the track and pass the link to all your friends too..  may his soul rest in peace and do keep Abhilash & his family in your prayers. True friends are hard to find.. I have learned a lot about life through my true friends... hope you all keep our little piece of work in a corner of your hearts..

SPYRO GYRA "A Foreign Affair" set for worldwide release on September 13, 2011

Sometimes when you fall in love, you know it from the first embrace. A Foreign Affair is the story of five guys and their love affair with the music of the world. This album from the venerable jazz group Spyro Gyra takes you on a journey to the music closest to them from some places in some cases farthest from them. A Foreign Affair draws from the experiences of an enduring international career, one that has taken them to the far reaches of the globe. It's no secret that Spyro Gyra started out their career with the rhythms of the world.  From the samba rhythms and Caribbean feel of their early hits to the latest album, these musicians have made it a point to embrace the music wherever they go. For instance, not long ago they played shows in New Jersey and Rochester NY but then left the U.S. to perform in Turkey, Germany, Netherlands, Israel, India, Martinique and South Africa. That's in less than one month. That tour is something of what this new album sounds like if you just add in a few more places.

It's a sign of how enduring this band's career is that, thirty-five years after their first album, their four most recent albums were each nominated for a Grammy®.

"One of the benefits of being in this band is that our music is popular all over the planet. Inevitably, we experience the local culture and inevitably we absorb some of those influences," explains leader and saxophonist Jay Beckenstein. "The guys and I were talking about what we wanted to do with this record before we started. We decided to make it all about that. We've actually been talking about making this record for years."

So, is A Foreign Affair, drawing liberally from the music of the world, a world music album? Beckenstein says not really. "It's more Spyro Gyra being influenced by the world. We're not trying to emulate any musical style in its pure native form. We're not trying to play 'perfect' salsa or traditional Indian music, for instance. Sometimes it means borrowing directly from another style, particularly in the rhythms, but mainly we're flavoring our music with these influences."

You can begin your journey with "Caribe" as it takes you on a leisurely stroll set to a reggae beat. This opening gem can already be added to the collection of Jay Beckenstein's most memorable melodies. This is followed by "Khuda" which announces itself immediately as the most obvious departure on the record with its intro. It's probably the first time a Western group has released a song with lyrics entirely in Hindi, the native language to about 200 million people in the world. Beckenstein explains, "Tom Schuman had worked with Sandeep Chowta, a Mumbai producer and composer, long distance over the net and then I did some work for Sandeep. We were very impressed with what he was doing, so when we decided to take the record in this direction, Sandeep was a perfect gateway into Indian music for us. It was a natural to ask Sandeep to contribute to A Foreign Affair."

On "Sweet Ole Thang," drummer Bonny Bonaparte takes you back to his native Trinidad for a Calypso flavored, steel pan band party rave-up. It's ironic that with "Sweet Ole Thang" Bonny, being the band's newest member at five years, has delivered the song most reminiscent of the Spyro Gyra "classic" sound. Beckenstein offers, "When I wrote 'Morning Dance' and 'Shaker Song,' that influence came from music I heard on the radio in New York. With Bonny, it's right from the source. He was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad."

The next couple of songs are showcases for Julio Fernandez, who describes his "Falling Walls" as "world music funk." It's set apart from Spyro Gyra's other high-energy funk romps by its clever though subtle use of Middle Eastern scales. This sets up Julio's vocal rendition of "Chileno Boys," a song written by Israeli star David Broza, adapted from a poem by Mexican American author Alberto Rios. In a way, these songs capture the theme of A Foreign Affair with the title "Falling Walls" segueing into a song whose chorus proudly proclaims from its protagonists, "Not different from you."

Our itinerary takes us next to "Shinjuku," a famous nightlife area of Tokyo, but this is not the Japan of temples and the koto and shakuhachi. Beckenstein explains, "When you go to Shinjuku, the contradiction is built right in. It's very Japanese, but it's also very New York, very urban, a very happening place. It's not surprising that it would sound Japanese but also very familiar."

"Samba For Two" and "Canção de Ninar," take us to Brazil, a familiar presence in Spyro Gyra's music. "Brazil is one of those places that has a thousand flavors," Beckenstein says. "From my earliest days listening to Stan Getz, I was deeply attracted to Brazilian music. It's sexy and complex and sophisticated and beautiful, like Brazil itself."

"Antigua," which sounds like it came from the island in the Caribbean, was actually named after the city of the same name in the central highlands of Guatemala. Jay named it after this Central American World Heritage site due to a particularly memorable show the group once played there.

"Last Call" is sung by Grammy® winning blues great Keb  Mo'. It's a song that at first may not seem to belong in the stated theme, but Beckenstein insists it does. "The United States, the birthplace of jazz and the blues, is part of the world. Our manager Phil Brennan had been working with Danny O'Keefe, who co-wrote this really beautiful song, and he suggested that we do it. Phil also suggested that we ask Keb' Mo' to sing it. We had worked with Keb' Mo' when he was first starting out and we're big admirers. So when he said yes, we leapt at it."

Our trip then takes us to South Africa with "Dancing On Table Mountain" named after the Cape Town landmark. "South Africa is a complicated place but it's a country with a great spirit. I think that Scott (Ambush) captured that. It's not particularly South African in style, but it is in spirit," Beckenstein opines.

It's notable that despite the many twists and turns the musical styles do take on the album, it always sounds like Spyro Gyra. "It's always going to sound like our musical voice," explains Beckenstein. "Whatever we do, we're always going to put our signature on it. It's so rewarding as a musician to be able to work with other musicians who can do so many things well."

Have A Foreign Affair and fall in love with the world all over again. While you're at it, you just might fall in love with Spyro Gyra all over again.

THE ENIDI - MORE THAN JUST A FAN CLUB

The moment has come for The Enidi. Membership is steadily growing and will eventually reach critical mass. When it does, we will be able do something really wonderful – possibly even miraculous. Wanting to see these goals achieved and being a player is the core reason for being a member of The Enidi.

A new generation of clever musicians has established itself in a stable and dedicated band line up who are in it for the long haul. Between us all we have both the imagination and creative gifts capable of achieving something truly magnificent for the band's live shows. But we can only do this with help and support from our fans. The future of the band is in your hands. Max Read and I have made a little film as a companion to this letter that explains why your support is so important at this crucial time for the band. You can watch it by clicking here ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWJkGgvbYU0 ).
Blowing The Trumpet - Our Achievements and Future Plans
It is important to realise just how far we have come since 2009. Achievements include releases of a major studio album, Journey's End; two albums in the Arise and Shine series with another in the planning; DVDs of Birmingham Town Hall, and Hammersmith Odeon 1979 with footage from Nearfest and Loreley in the pipeline; the production of an exclusive "Valiant Hearts" free CD for the Enidi membership only. In addition and with help from Guy Hands, a long time fan of the band, we have been able to make the historic EMI recordings from the 70's available again.

Touring has gone from strength to strength including gigs and festivals in USA, France, Belgium, Portugal, Germany and Holland. Going forward includes several festivals in the UK and on the continent. And coming up on the 15th October is The Enid in concert with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and 200 voice choir - the Symphonic Art Rock event of the year - the music of The Enid for the first time in all its orchestral glory.

Marmite
The Enid is an acquired taste and our musical style is unique. A Marmite band - loved by some and entirely dependent on real music lovers for our existence. The Enidi members' contributions and the work they put in both collectively and as individuals are vital.

For a modest cost of less than 7 pence a day, the material benefits are considerable in all sorts of ways including a fully staffed 24/7 office, a unique specially produced free CD every year, unfettered online access to the Enid archive, substantial discounts on almost everything Enid and an annual get together.

When you join up, you will immediately receive the current free Enidi CD - Valiant Hearts. You will also become eligible to purchase some of the best in the house Symphony Hall VIP tickets at a discount price with the ability to bring family and friends at greatly reduced rates.

AOL MUSIC PREMIERE'S COLD'S FIRST ALBUM IN SIX YEARS

After six years, Cold is proud to announce their album, Superfiction, to be released in the US and Canada on July 19th with Eleven Seven Music. Preview the entire album now, on AOL Music and Noisecreep and pre-order here.  Feel free to post on your site, if you send me a link back I can post a link to your site from the band's official sites.

On July 19th Superfiction, Cold's newest album will be released. Cold's follow up to Year of the Spider, which went to #3 on The Billboard 200 chart and produced the hit "Stupid Girl," takes the alluring darkness and elegantly heavy hard rock that made Cold a rock mainstay and combines it with intricate and vivid storytelling. Building on the band's affinity towards graphic artists, Cold enlisted Trevor Niemann of Visual Entropy to illustrate each "tale" on Superfiction. Audio Insight, Emerging NJ Prog-Rockers

Audio Insight is a trio of self-taught musicians from Woodbridge, N.J., who in less than a year, have released an acclaimed debut album in Dimensions (available on iTunes), were named one of the Tr-State's Top Unsigned Acts of 2011, have garnered features by commercial radio (WRAT 95.9 FM/WKVYN 99.3 FM) and college radio play (WSOU 89.5 FM/WPSC 88.7 FM/WRSU 88.7 FM), were featured on popular blog-talk radio program IndieOnAir! by Jeff Poka in Chicago, were featured in California's THE LIST Magazine, and recently played Bamboozle 2011 alongside Wiz Khalifa and 30 Seconds to Mars.

Audio Insight knocks it out-of-the-park with their live performances, has garnered new fans in the tri-state area and is quickly becoming a rising name in unsigned progressive rock. They've played big-time venues here including the New Meadowlands Sports Complex, Starland Ballroom, The Stone Pony and coming soon a headlining show at Maxwells.

Andrew Magnotta, Associate Editor of The Aquarian says, “Audio Insight has a ton of upside, and Dimensions is a record that you will spin more times than once. It‟s melodic, energetic-even frantic at times-and thoroughly agreeable, with appeal to fans of both progressive rock and post-hardcore.”

With a headlining show at Maxwells on 7-27-11 in Hoboken, the band's sound can remind listeners of the sounds of of Coheed and Cambria, The Deftones, The Fall of Troy, The Mars Volta, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Rush and Tool.

R.U.S.T. RELEASES DEBUT ALBUM

Cyprus-based heavy metal rockers  R.U.S.T. announce their self-released debut album, "Forged in the Fire of Metal", out on August 5th.

In true old school underground manner the album is a complete DIY production with the band undertaking all recording and mixing tasks in their own home-made recording studio. Although not one of its releases, Pitch Black Records is proudly supporting it as part of its continuing efforts to support and promote the local scene of Cyprus.

Admittedly the sound might be rough and not polished to perfection but considering the band's DIY approach this is a must. Clearly evident throughout their music however are two fundamental elements of rock music; spirit and passion! The same two elements that the band has become known to portray during their live shows along with their infinite energy. R.U.S.T.'s music is full of melodies and an immense amount of energy and passion with the end result screaming out loud "ROCK N' F'IN ROLL!"

With bands such as SAVATAGE, WARLORD, ACCEPT, SAXON, among others, listed as their influence, R.U.S.T. were formed in 2003 and in 2007 released a 4-track EP. An extremely active member of the local scene in Cyprus they have performed live numerous times and they are also the main organisers of the annual 2 day metal festival Power of the Night which this year will take place on July 16th and 17th in Nicosia. A limited number of copies of R.U.S.T.'s album will be available at the festival for purchase.

Consisting of nine tracks and a 16-page booklet containing hand-drawn artwork, "Forged in the Fire of Metal" will be available worldwide through Pitch Black Records and its distribution partners as well as directly from the band. It will also be available as a digital download through major mp3 stores.

Tracklisting:
1. The Thunder Rolls
2. Metal Child
3. We are Rock 'n' Roll
4. Phoenixin the Night
5. In the Streets of Rock 'n' Roll
6. Lady of the Lake
7. Straight to the Top
8. Queen of the Amazons
9. The Beginning
10. Forged in the Fire of Metal

On the 20th of April 2011, at Silesian Theatre in Katowice, Poland, Strawberry Fields presented to their audience the band’s very own, unique, subtly simple, magic and, at times, trip-hop-like brand of prog music, crowned with Robin’s – the band’s lead singer’s – mesmerizing, sensual voice. Szadkowski and Robin were accompanied on stage by the former’s fellow musicians from the band Satellite – Sarhan Kubeisi (guitars), Jarek Michalski (bass), Krzysztof Palczewski (keys) and the band’s new guitarist Michał Kirmuć. Together they presented their fans with a musical feast by performing songs from Strawberry Fields’ debut album “Rivers Gone Dry” as well as one previously unreleased song – “Problem” . Also, the band surprised the audience by playing new versions of two memorable songs from Satellite’s repertoire – “Don’t Walk Away in Silence” and “Is It Over” – as also a classic Collage song “Living in the Moonlight”. DVD entitled “Live Strawberry Fields” perfectly captures the magic of that exceptional evening.

The release date of “Live Strawberry Fields” DVD is scheduled for September, 5th in Europe and September, 27th in USA (via MVD).

Message from Annie Haslam and Michael Dunford

We are excited about the upcoming fall U.S. tour, and look forward to seeing as many of you at the shows as possible.
The band would LOVE to perform across the entire country, and for that matter, the planet. Unfortunately, where we tour is mostly a function of local concert promoters' interest and awareness. To help achieve this we must consolidate and expand the band's fan base. This will help with not only touring, but also distribution of a new studio album and other output from the band.

With this in mind, we are asking for your help. Please reach out to every Renaissance fan, or anyone you know that should be one. Invite them to sign up for the mailing list at www.renaissancetouring.com/welcome and to 'like' the band's official page on Facebook (also to invite their friends). The email signup form will ask who referred them.  As a thank you to you, the band will reward the the top three 'enlisters' with a prize:

First prize:  Personal commissioned 8×10 painting by Annie Haslam AND Annie's personalized backstage pass from 1979 Azure D'or tour.  Annie will call you to discuss the creation of your one of a kind painting.

Second prize: A rare Turn of the Cards Valentine card (the UK release date was Valentine's day!) autographed by Annie and Michael, and a promotional Turn of the Cards sticker
Third prize: Original 1970s press photo autographed by Annie and Michael.

Only mailing list signups count toward the prizes (Facebook likes do not.) We want both, but there's no good way to tally referrals on Facebook. The link to refer folks to is:
www.renaissancetouring.com/welcome

As a further gesture of thanks… we are giving all fans a desktop wallpaper of an original painting by Annie (pick your screen shape – regular or widescreen):

Thanking each of you in advance for your help and fanship.

Gandalf's Fist new album "Road to Darkness"

Gandalf's Fist is the creative collaboration between Dean Marsh and Luke Severn.

Our Music is an eclectic mix of all the different styles and genres that we love – be that 70's Progressive Rock, Heavy Metal or even Traditional Folk.

We tend to create music that we, ourselves, like to listen to and can have fun recording and if by sheer chance anyone else likes it...
...great! We welcome you whole heartedly to the bizarre world of Gandalf's Fist! Hopefully you'll get in touch and become a part of our creative journey.

Currently based in Cumbria, England (and wherever we can hang our hats), Gandalf's Fist started in 2005 in Newcastle Upon Tyne and has undergone various changes of existence and membership...

...But at present, here we are, manning the ship and pulling on board anyone who wants to come along for the ride!

A quick breakdown of our current line-up is as follows:
  • Dean: Musics and Generic Warbling
  • Luke: Song-writing and Wizard Impressions
But seriously, we've had many great musical adventures over the years along with our good friends Paul, Ben and Tim, each of whom have helped in the genesis of this project and have contributed to our early creative outpourings (who could ever forget Ben's legendary Bagpipe-Odyssey?)

We floundered around for a while and released a couple of early instrumental demo's inspired by the writings of JRR Tolkien: "Balrog Burger" in 2005 followed closely by "The Nazgul Blade"

Then finally, in 2010, we gave ourselves a big kick up the backside! We put Mr Tolkien on the shelf for a while (don't worry, he'll be back!) and recorded and released "The Master and The Monkey" - A folky-prog concept album based on a story that Luke and Tim (mainly Luke) came up with one drunken night at the Lifeboat Inn.

Fuelled by our new creative spark, we sat down and started to create our second album "Road to Darkness". The album draws influences from many of our Prog Heroes of the 70's and is a twisted space-rock re-imagining of L. Frank Baum's 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz'

We've had great support for this project from all over the world and we are seriously privileged by some of the friends we have made in the process (you know who you are!).
All in all, we're truly enthused and excited about the future of GF and we hope you decide to join us on the Journey!

2011 release, a modern interpretation of the band's 1974 masterpiece, 'Hero & Heroine', recorded in November 2010.

To follow up the new Android Meme album, we are pleased to present you their Music Video.
- Please check out the music video:

Kscope presents... 'A Night At The Union Chapel' featuring Anathema, The Pineapple Thief, Engineers and Nosound

Kscope launched in April 2008 and has quickly established itself as a home for forward thinking post-progressive and art-rock, releasing critically acclaimed albums by Porcupine Tree, Anathema, Blackfield, Engineers, Steven Wilson, North Atlantic Oscillation, The Pineapple Thief, Lunatic Soul, Ulver, No-Man, Richard Barbieri, Nosound and more. On Friday 30th September the label will be hosting a one-off night at the Union Chapel in London, with a number of acts from the roster performing special stripped back sets in this breathtaking venue. Anathema will headline the show, performing a special acoustic show comprising of members Vincent, Danny and Lee.

They will be joined by Engineers, Bruce Soord from The Pineapple Thief and Nosound (solo set).  Anathema's 2010 studio album We're Here Because We're Here was awarded Classic Rock's Prog Album of the Year as well as a host of other accolades. Formed in Liverpool in 1990, the band's sound and musical vision has continually evolved while always remaining true to the band's original goal of creating forward-thinking, meaningful, passionate, and honest music. With each release they moved beyond the boundaries of limited scenes and pigeon holes, creating a complex and emotive atmospheric sound. The producer of WHBWH, Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree), has described it as "definitely among the best albums I've ever had the pleasure to work on."

They return in September with Falling Deeper, a new release which features acoustic reinterpretations of tracks from throughout their back catalogue. This gig at Union Chapel will allow fans the chance to hear some of these tracks and more. 2010 was a landmark year for The Pineapple Thief. The band released their latest album, Someone Here Is Missing ('extremely classy and frequently mesmerising' Classic Rock), along with the Show A Little Love EP ('it is here that the real magic of a band like TPT shines through' Classic Rock Prog) and followed a string of festival performances with a European tour. Their recent successful dates with Blackfield, Riverside and Amplifier, suggest that 2011 is already looking pretty good too.

For the Kscope night, frontman Bruce Soord will be performing a solo acoustic set. Engineers recently released the To An Evergreen EP which has received support from Lauren Laverne and Guy Garvey on BBC6 Music. In addition to the title track, the EP featured remixes of tracks taken from last year's In Praise Of More album, which Clash stated 'should be given to most UK bands around at the moment to use as an example in making an album that is a joy to behold.'

Giancarlo Erra's Nosound create a seductive and original fusion of elements of progressive, ambient and post rock. Regarded by critics and fans alike as one of the most interesting up and coming alt/art rock bands in Europe, the band have released three critically acclaimed albums on Kscope. At the Union Chapel, Erra will be playing a solo set, similar to that which is featured on the forthcoming The Northern Religion Of Things release.

Leslie West to release new album 'Unusual Suspects' on Sept 19

Legendary guitarist and Mountain founder 'Leslie West' will release the new solo album, 'Unusual Suspects', on Monday September 19th. The album follows the recent news that West underwent life-saving surgery on June 17th, when his leg was amputated above the knee.  While an ordeal such as this would surely deter other artists, West insisted on honouring the 'Unusual Suspects' album release date in September.

Released by Provogue Records, 'Unusual Suspects' features West performing alongside an all-star hand-picked line-up of the world's finest guitar players, including Slash, blues-rock guitarist Joe Bonamassa, Black Label Society front man and ex-Ozzy guitarist Zakk Wylde, ZZ Top's Billy Gibbon and Toto's Steve Lukather. 'Unusual Suspects' is West's first album since 2006's 'Blue Me'.

"These guys don't just show up to play on everybody's albums," says West on his special guests and the album's title. "They're all stars in their own right, and fantastic players - everyone with their own sound and style, about as far from the usual suspects as it gets."

02. Mudflap Mama

03. To The Moon

[Bonustrack]

Leslie West has long been a popular personality on the Howard Stern Radio Show in America.  It was Stern whom he gave an interview in late June 2011, from his hospital bed, mere days after undertaking life-saving surgery which saw his leg amputated above the knee.

On June 17th, West (a long-time sufferer of type 2 Diabetes) was aboard a long-haul flight to Mississippi to perform at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, when the limb began to swell. He was rushed to the emergency room and lost consciousness. The decision to proceed with the operation was made by his wife, Jenni, who remarks "It was his leg or his life."

Such a life-changing ordeal would surely deter other artists, but West is already looking firmly forward, insisting that Unusual Suspects' release date was not altered because of his condition. "Now I've got to figure out how to play the guitar [whilst standing] on one leg," he states, under no illusions regarding the size of the task ahead. "The prosthetic ones they have these days are really good, but of course I'm used to balancing my weight on two feet. I'm going to have to retrain myself."

LESLIE WEST - BIOGRAPHY

During the course of his 30-plus year career, Leslie West has received world-wide acclaim as one of the most innovative and influential musicians in the history of rock music. He is perhaps best known for his role as leader of the explosive trio, Mountain, who were named by VH-1 as one of the Top 100 Hard Rock Groups of all time. With Mountain, he climbed the heights of rock stardom on the strength of a completely unique, signature guitar sound and classic songs such as "Mississippi Queen", "Never In My Life", "Theme From An Imaginary Western" and "Nantucket Sleigh ride", all of which are still staples of rock radio to this day. Leslie has earned the admiration of a long list of famous peers. During his career, he has recorded or played with a plethora of rock icons including Billy Joel, Van Halen, The Who, Mick Jagger and Jimi Hendrix, to name just a few. In fact, Eddie Van Halen, Michael Schenker and Richie Sambora have all cited Leslie as a major influence on their own music.

Leslie's bold, expressive and unique guitar style is a mirror of his own personality. Spend a little time talking with this larger-than-life figure, and you'll realize that he is as charismatic without a guitar in his hands as he is with one. Possessing a sharp sense of humour, he is at once gregarious and gruff while recounting stories from his legendary past. And when discussing his newest projects, such as new album Unusual Suspects, he exudes an infectious enthusiasm and excitement.

West has never been one to rest on his impressive laurels. His boundless creativity has often involved him in projects that take him outside his traditional roles of guitarist, singer and songwriter.

In 1986, he acted alongside Tom Hanks and Shelley Long in the hit comedy film, The Money Pit and has lent his distinctive voice to the popular animated series, Beast Wars Transformers which ran for three seasons on the WB network in 1996.

Leslie West has long been a popular personality on the Howard Stern Radio Show, and it was Stern whom he gave an interview in late June 2011 from his hospital bed, mere days after undertaking life-saving surgery which saw his leg amputated above the knee.

A long-time sufferer of Diabetes; West was aboard a long-haul flight to Mississippi to perform at the Hard Rock Hotel And Casino, when the limb began to swell. He was rushed to the emergency room and lost consciousness. The decision to proceed with the operation was made by his wife, Jenni, who remarks "It was his leg or his life."

Such a life-changing ordeal would surely deter other artists, but West is already looking forward, insisting that Unusual Suspects' release date was not altered because of his condition. "Now I've got to figure out how to play the guitar [whilst standing] on one leg," he states, under no illusions regarding the size of the task ahead. "The prosthetic ones they have these days are really good, but of course I'm used to balancing my weight on two feet. I'm going to have to retrain myself."

Leslie West has been a creative force for over three decades and shows no sign of losing his ambition or his desire to continually reinvent himself. His ability to adapt his creative spirit to a diverse range of projects is a key ingredient in the longevity of this multi-faceted entertainer's success. All humans have a unique fingerprint. In the world of guitar, Leslie has that distinctive sound and tone that is unique to him. There are many clones, but few who have a voice of their own. When Leslie hits a note, you know it's him and that's what makes him one of a kind.
