ZED: Bay Area Riff Wielders Kick off Album Release Party to Celebrate New Album on Ripple Music

Bay Area riff wielders ZED will take to the streets this week to celebrate their long-anticipated new album, "Trouble in Eden", on Ripple Music. Set to commence this Friday, August 19th at the Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco, ZED will hit the stage with label-mates, stoner-metallers, Blackwulf, as well as Older Sun and Year of the Cobra.

Commented bass player, Mark Aceves, "This show promises to be one of the best ragers of the year! Coming out from Seattle  the duo that is "Year of the Cobra" will bring their crushing drum and bass doom sounds with atmospheric female vocals laid on top. Then we have Older Sun who combine retro Soul style vocals with heavy 70's inspired riffs, creating an entirely new sound and vibe all their own. Follow that with the heavy, dark riffage of Blackwulf who are the Bay Area's heirs of that Sabbath groove we all love. And lastly we have ZED, releasing their new album "Trouble In Eden" on Ripple Music with their groove-heavy rock that makes your head bob and your ass shake! Yes indeed this show is gonna make the streets of San Francisco rumble!"

""Trouble In Eden isn't just proof that there is a ton of badass stuff left to be done in rock and roll but also that Zed might be our generations rock gods. Their music is powerful and passionate, and unlike so many of their peers actually exciting." -- Metal Injection

""For the love of all that's unholy, this is fantastic. Twelve seconds into song two, I actually said "Holy shit. This is great.", out loud, alone in my house. The entire album kicked my ass. It's heavy, it's hard, it's metal, it's rock; a touch of the South, a bit o' the psyche, a hint of doom – a smile and nod to greatness of old, but believe me this is new." -- Its Only Music, They Said.

""Zed get what hard rock should be about in 2016. They are unpretentious, powerful and simply in love with the magic of this type of music. This is a band who fill out their sound with the same sort of passion and fiery magic that fueled so many of those bands in the seventies."-- Two Guys Metal Reviews

""Trouble In Eden is ace for anyone who loves a dirty sounding rock band." -- Rock n Reel Reviews

ZED set the underground heavy music world alight with their last album, the critically hailed Desperation Blues.  a groove-laden masterpiece of crushing riffs and infectious melodies.  Now ZED will take the stage in support of their latest album, Trouble in Eden, their first for industry-leading heavy rock label, Ripple Music.

Look for "Trouble in Eden" to hit the streets August 26, in limited vinyl, CD, and digital, available a the Ripple Website, Ripple bandcamp, all digital providers and fine record stores around the world.   Check out the video below to see what all the fuss is about, then go to Bottom of the Hill and join in on the party!

San Francisco Bay Area's Zed takes it cues from the greats like Zeppelin, Sabbath and AC/DC, and mixes them with their other musical influences such as Clutch, Rage Against the Machine and Queens of the Stone Age. With this mixture, Zed adds groove and riffs to craft a sound that is new, yet familiar and are bringing back the guts, the grit and the balls to rock and roll. www.zedisded.com

German Stoner Rock 'n' Rollers Plainride Sign World-wide Album Deal with Ripple Music

Earth Rockin' Drums, A beard growth inducing Bass, Fuzzomental Guitars, the Roar of a Wolfman and a whole lotta beer. No better words exist to describe German asphalt stoner rockers Plainride, and Ripple Music couldn't be more thrilled to welcome them to their ever-growing family.

Ripple Music will release world-wide their mind-blowing explosion of riff-mad heaviness debut album, Return of the Jackalope on 2xLP, CD, and world-wide digital.  Originally self-released by the band, Return Of The Jackalope has been described as the perfect soundtrack for your roadtrip through the deserts of Hades, hitting 666 mph in a beer-fueled Dodge Challenger '69 and embarking on a brain melting hell-ride through space and time accompanied by 4 German rockers and a horned jackrabbit.

Plainride is driven by:

Max Rebel - Vocals, Lead Guitar
Fabe van Fuzz - Rhythm Guitar
Leo Lionthatch - Bass
Flo Schlenker - Drums

While this is undeniably a huge step for Plainride, the band plans to keep on rolling with their sympathetic down-to-earth attitude, as singer Max confirms: "We're not a business band at any rate. Rehearsals are what makes my week worthwhile. Hanging and rocking out with the guys, frequenting shady concerts - that stuff is like sex to me: Even when it's bad, it's still pretty damn good!" Beer-fueled banter aside, these guys aren't in it just for the heck of it: "We always had the ambition to achieve as much as possible while staying true to our founding spirit. Signing with Ripple Music is an awesome and humbling opportunity for us and I'll be damned if we're not gonna work off our asses to honor that!"

Look for Return of the Jackalope to hit stores and digital platforms world-wide in December of 2016. In the meantime, check out this video the boys made to celebrate their signing.

Fronted by the living legend of the Polish heavy metal and one of the most charismatic frontmen of the genre, Grzegorz Kupczyk (ex-Turbo, ex-Non Iron), the band return in late 2016 with their tenth studio album. New album is the follow-up to the highly acclaimed album "Brutus Syndrome" from 2014. Heavy and guitar-laden, but also tastefully melodic, "Snakes Of Eden" is a brilliant compromise between the contemporary production and the classic Metal sound. Highly recommended and a valuable addition to your Metal album collection.

Guitar Icon Adrian Belew Scores Music For New Animated Film & Releases “FLUX” Album!

Nashville - Guitar icon Adrian Belew has recently scored the music to "Piper", a short movie by animation studio Pixar, which was released on June 17th! The six-minute production tells the story of a small bird that lives on a beach, and must challenge herself to find food while avoiding treacherous waves. It was screened before "Finding Dory", the full-length sequel to 2003's "Finding Nemo".

Says Adrian, "I've visited Pixar four times and it never ceases to thrill me – so much creativity and technology in one place."

Meanwhile, Belew continues work on the latest additions to his FLUX project, including an album called FLUXbybelew and an in-app addition entitled FLUXation. FLUX is 'music which is never the same twice'. To accommodate the original concept FLUX was released on iTunes as a music app for iPhone and iPad (the only one of its kind, available on iTunes at bit.ly/FLUX_cd) with the app downloaded, you press Play to activate 30 minutes of music, songs, sounds, and visuals which will never happen again in quite the same way. that's because of some very clever algorithms and a huge amount of content. But it is not feasible to have the same thing occur on a CD, so Adrian asks that you always play the CD in "shuffle" mode. This will give as close an approximation to the way he intended this music to be experienced as can be offered in this format.

FLUX is not meant to be listened to in the same running sequence every time. In order to eventually make all FLUX material available on CD, this will be an ongoing series, updated as needed. Adrian's hope is that you will make your own playlist from the content of all the CDs, then put the entire playlist in shuffle and enjoy FLUX: music that is never the same twice!

Says Adrian, "For those who only have the first FLUX CD, this will double your fun. For those of you who have the FLUXbybelew app, the FLUXation pack will add another half an hour of music and visuals to your FLUX stream, creating even more possibilities. Also included in both these releases are new songs not available anywhere else."

Adrian Belew finally launched his FLUX music creation environment after 36 years of planning and development. It's now available as an iOS mobile device app, and promises "a new and exciting way to experience music."

Says Adrian, "Technology has changed our lives so dramatically. Our ability to multitask is greater, but our attention spans are shorter. Modern music does not reflect these changes – most music has remained unaltered, still made in the same format used for over 60 years: the three to five minute song. Nothing wrong with that, but how about an alternative?

"FLUX is an ever-changing variety of songs, sounds and visual art that comes at you in quick, exciting pieces. You get exposed to a lot of content quickly and every listen is new. It will never happen the same way for you or anyone else.

While the system currently features only Belew's music, and isn't open to any other input, he hopes the concept can be expanded. He told Something Else Reviews: "I really believe it's something that could be used in many different artistic mediums, and that people will use it different ways."

Adrian Belew is a legendary guitarist well-known for his diverse travels around the musical map. He is a multi-instrumentalist whose solo records are critically acclaimed. His moving singing voice and prolific songwriting has endeared a loyal fan base of music lovers. His music is being discovered everyday by more and more listeners thirsty for great music with a creative standard not often pushed by the commercial music industry.

Adrian first appeared on the guitar-world radar when he toured with Frank Zappa who later said, "Adrian reinvented electric guitar". Adrian's signature tones, unique use of effects and whammy bar remains completely different, and his techniques continue to be a huge influence on today's guitarists. He was guitarist, songwriter and frontman Progressive Rock Powerhouse King Crimson for over 30 years. "Discipline", Adrian's first record with King Crimson, is listed among the most important rock records ever made.

Adrian has had a career that commands both awe and respect from fellow musicians and loyal fans, from his first solo record "The Lone Rhino" to The Atlantic Records hit album "Mr. Music Head" or any of his other 20 solo records that push sonic boundaries while maintaining artistic integrity. Adrian shreds on guitar but also writes beautiful songs that will make you cry. Yes, Adrian has taken his fans on a wild ride through countless world tours and albums with David Bowie, Talking Heads, Laurie Anderson, NIN and Paul Simon. He truly is the Twang Bar King!

ohn Wesley releases lyric video for new single "by the light of the sun"

Renowned singer / songwriter & guitarist John Wesley is set to release his forthcoming 8th studio album 'a way you'll never be' on October 7th, 2016 on InsideOut Music.

Now you can check out the first single from the album "by the light of the sun" with the lyric video presented exclusively on GuitarWorld.com:

John had this to say about the new track:
"I'm happy to introduce " by the light of the sun", the opening track of my new album, "a way you'll never be".  This song sets the tone, as a good representation of the style of music and sound for this album. It also opens the door lyrically to introduce the concept of the album, which is my interpretation of the parallels between my favorite author, Ernest Hemingway's "Lost Generation" and what I perceive to be our own modern day version of a "Lost Generation". This theme is threaded through all of the songs on the album, with some of the songs making solid connections to characters, stories, and my personal interpretations of some of Hemingway's writing.

The very first line of lyrics in the song make the connection to the "burning man" character used in the imagery of the cover art. "By the light of a sun, burning dreams into ash....", this concept that many of us chase our dreams through life and sometimes the closer we get to them, the more these aspirations can seem to "burn us".

The image of the "burning man" is meaningful on many levels, which contextually evolves from song to song. At times it represents change, or courage, as well as a burning passion. Other times it even ties into the the myth of "Icarus" having pushed too hard and flown too near the sun.

I am excited to present "by the light of a sun" as the first video so that those interested in unpacking the many layers contained in the lyrics and music of this album can begin the journey. Enjoy the ride...."  JW

'a way you'll never be' was produced by Jim Morris at the legendary Morrisound Studios and you can find the full track-listing below:

1. by the light of a sun (5:32)
2. a way you'll never be (7:18)
3. to outrun the light (7:07)
4. the revolutionist (5:57)
5. nada (5:41)
6. the silence in coffee (5:09)
7. unsafe space (4:17)
8. sun.a.rose (6:44)
9. epic (4:51)
10. pointless endeavors (03:38)

The album will be available in Digipak CD, Digital Download.

John Wesley has built a long and varied career as a songwriter, guitarist, and recording artist. His music has been called lyrically sensitive and musically dynamic. His song-writing style incorporates emotionally-charged vocals that evoke the honesty and intimacy of Roger Waters and Patty Griffin coupled with a melodic yet intricate guitar style reminiscent of David Gilmour, Alex Lifeson, and Jeff Beck. John Wesley has performed as guitarist/vocalist for critically acclaimed UK based recording act Porcupine Tree, during the "In Absentia", "Deadwing", "Fear of a Blank Planet", and "The Incident" world tours with whom he played with for nine years, culminating in 2010 with sold out performances at Radio City Music Hall and the Royal Albert Hall.

Bruno Mansini rescue Yes pioneering in “The Golden Soul”

The diversity and extended discography of Yes, the British pioneer of progressive rock, is a safe place to Brazilian artist Bruno Mansini.  Besides the reverence to the unique and  defective sonority created by Jon Anderson & Cia long time ago, the musician deals with a lot of those experiences at the proper work, melting them to his own creations. This is just a part of how Mansini composed the trilogy "Dreams from the Earth", that finishes in "The Golden Soul". All tracks of the album is available at his channel in Youtube.

Brazilian and oriental music, classic progressive rock, jazz and hard rock are elements that explain Mansini's trilogy, trailing Yes legacy talking about offer in each album a collection of songs with melodic layers and fluent structures. It occurs at the two first releases, "Dream from the Earth" and "Secrets Sings of Green" and even more at the latest, "The Golden Soul" and Mansini emphases that he doesn't want to be a new Yes, but use its references to act in prog scene of nowadays working with techniques once established by the British band.

The Yes esthetic and experimentalism at the 70ies, for example, reverb at Mansini's third album "The Golden Soul" when he qualifies the prog rock adding ethnics sonorities and rhythms. Mansini explains that explore the richness of instruments around him means offer multiples possibilities to the album. The details, by the way, are fundamental appointments of "The Golden Soul".  Every note has its meaning and feeling.

Another link with Yes is about the lyrical content, constantly dealing with pacifist and spiritual themes, proposing harmony to humanity. The music without cultural borders turns "The Golden Soul" into an unique album at Brazilian prog rock scenery, a journey between astral and real plan, a personal memories rescue and messaging about a fair present.

Pain of Salvation - "Remedy Lane Re:visited (Re:mixed & Re:lived)" out now!

Swedish progressive rock/metal innovators Pain of Salvation are releasing a very special reissue version of their 2002 album "Remedy Lane" entitled "Remedy Lane Re:visited (Re:mixed & Re:lived)" today via InsideOutMusic.
Therefore, Pain of Salvation's classic track "Fandango (Live)" is launched now via a static clip on YouTubeas next online sample for the release. It can be checked out here:

Previously, "Rope Ends (Remix)" was made available here: https://youtu.be/9oTMI_jc-NA

Pain of Salvation's Daniel Gildenlöw checked in to comment about "Fandango (Live)" as follows:
"Fandango has always been one of my favorite live songs, and it's always well received by the crowd. I think it's simply very cool for both us as musicians and for the fans to see this very complex beast spring to life. And those high notes of mine in the end of the song seem to guarantee a certain level of impressiveness, regardless of who is listening. I still recall when we were on tour back in 2002 together with Dream Theater - after our show James LaBrie and Jordan Rudess came up to me and shook their heads with big smiles. James said he just couldn't understand how I could pull off all those hard-on-the-voice styles and techniques and still master the high end like that. Jordan agreed and joked that those last notes in Fandango were probably illegal in several states. Needless to say, that was a pretty huge moment for me."

With this release, Pain of Salvation re-visit their ground-breaking and genre-bending "Remedy Lane" album by teaming up with old companion and mixing engineer wizard Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios (Opeth, Symphony X, Devin Townsend, Haken, etc.) for a new sonic take on the original recordings as well as the intense full-album live performance from ProgPower USA Festival from 2014.

Both these "Remedy Lane" recordings will be available either together as 2CD Digipak format dubbed "Remedy Lane Re:visited (Re:mixed & Re:lived)" with a total playing time of 142 minutes or individually as Gatefold 2LP (+ Its corresponding album as bonus CD) or Digital Download versions, respectively called"Remedy Lane Re:mixed" (Playing time: 68 min.) and "Remedy Lane Re:lived" (Playing time: 74 min). The releases will come with revised artwork, expanded booklet design and extensive liner-notes by Daniel Gildenlöw.

The individual vinyl versions of both "Remedy Lane Re:mixed" and "Remedy Lane Re:lived" are available on black vinyl as well as in limited coloured runs on clear vinyl (100x copies from IOM webshop) or transparent orange (300x copies).

The pre-order for all physical formats is starting today from the IOM webshop here:

New Shamall release - History Book (30 Years Anniversary Edition)

New Releases Shamall – History Book
(30 Years Anniversary edition)
and Continuation – ready for pre-ordering!

The name of this album says all about it. "History Book" – is a review of 30 years of epic musical creation from Shamall. It was a long way from the first mainstream-releases of the eighties to the current, timeless neo-progressive rock hymns.

The "History Book" contains 5 CD's. It musically traces the career of Shamall and illustrated the musical development of the project in an impressive way. The musical output is arranged chronologically in this 5-piece CD-Box.

CD 1 will start with the first longplayer release „Journey To a Nightmare", which came out in 1989. The disc contains the title theme of this album as well as the audience favorites "Turning Point" and "Nothing to say". „Physical Visions" and "Moments of Illusion" were taken from the same-named album from 1990, which was the first album going around the world, because the companies German „Telekom" and „Time Life" have used it's music for movies and commercials. The B-Side „Caligula 2009" from Shamall's first hit single „My Dream" (charts rank Nr. 9) which came out in 1986 has been modified especially for the fans of Shamall's very early works. This edited version is now a minute and ten seconds longer than the original version and the last track on CD one.

CD 2 is devoted to the albums „In Search of Precision" (1994) and "Mirror to Eternity" (1993) with it's same-named title. Even the unforgotten track "Mission Hussein" with it's extended drum solo is not missing. The following tracks "Ambrosia", the equally successful "Time Machine" and "In Search of Precision" make this CD to a varied experience.

CD 3 continues with the highlights of the albums "This Island Earth", "Influences" and "The Book: Genesis". The well-known WDR-radio show „Schwingungen" voted the title „New Age Krautrock Symphony" as „best title of the year 2002".

CD 4 celebrates the musical turnaround of Shamall. Starting with the album „Who do they think they are", where guitars and vocals found their way into Shamall's music. Altogether the music style became more native and more rocking. Political and socio-critical lyrics that accompanied the vocal parts of the concept albums from now on, aroused the interest of international music fans. With this new neo progressive music concept Shamall celebrated his first bigger success in the US, France, Great Britain, Spain, Italy and especially in Russia. Therefore the tracks "Hey You" from the album "Who do they think they are", "The Difference between" from "Ambiguous points of view" and "What will happen" from "Questions of Life" are an absolut must on this cd – as well as "Don't get your panties in a bunch"and "Is this human behavior" from the same-named album. The jury of the JPF Foundation awarded „Ambiguous points of view" in two ways – the whole album and 3 tracks were voted as best releases of the year in the category "Progressive Rock". In a competition where 560,000 attendees from over 90 countries with 42,000 albums took part.

CD 5 includes exclusively unreleased songs based on the double album "Turn Off" from 2013. It's basic theme fascinated Shamall so intensely, that it left a lot of recorded ideas for a third CD. So the 5th CD of „History Book" completes the compilation as a CD with absolute new music.

This fifth CD will certainly delight the fans, who are waiting for a musical sign of life from Shamall. Because of many inquiries CD 5 is also available as a regular album under the name „Continuation".

The Tangent return - progressive rock as protest music!

EU progressive rock band The Tangent have returned, following band leader Andy Tillison's heart attack last year and subsequent recuperation. Never one to shy away from confronting issues head on, Andy has enlisted his band-mates in The Tangent including Luke Machin, Jonas Reingold & Theo Travis, to create one 20-minute long piece titled 'A Few Steps Down The Wrong Road' which you can hear now here:

The track sees The Tangent joined by author, playwright & former Chumbawamba member Boff Whalley, for what is a preface to a new album that finds the band focussing on politics and the practice of mass migrations in the contemporary world. Andy Tillison had this to say:

"Inevitably, after a very upbeat and nostalgic album that revisited our early career with "A Spark In the Aether", I wanted to turn my head again towards the more socially aware music that I have written since I was a teenager. The idea has been building with me for some time, and now it's time for me to get on with it. In the light of the UK's decision to leave the EU, a political framework where the Tangent flourished as an international positive idea, it's obvious that I want to say something about that. I've never been good at political debate, but in song I find my courage and I'm not letting this pass me by."

The track, and the forthcoming album, is accompanied by artwork created by UK comic artist Mark "Bucky" Buckingham, whose images have graced comics for both DC and Marvel. You can see some of the early work he has done for The Tangent above.

Andy continues: "We in the west decimated the lives of so many in other parts of the world - in generations gone by and right up to this moment. We're doing it now. The Chilcott report on the Iraq War identifies this frequently occurring British/American behaviour and attributes much of the desperate actions of people to that very behaviour pattern. When people travel to escape the chaos in which we had a hand either by political interference or by selling their Warlord governments weapons, they follow the trails WE left for them. We should not be surprised or indignant that they are coming. We left the invitations open when we left those people destitute once before. They will continue to come. Being ready for this is not about building walls to stop them. It's always been about making good for the past. Whether we can - in our current "economic state" - handle this is really a question as simple as this....

If there was a Tsunami that destroyed half of Southend On Sea, would they build a wall around Basildon to stop the resulting refugees?

Your answer to that question is what England (and I mean England) IS. Or perhaps your answer is what it COULD be. We could make it better. Economics is a consideration, not another brick wall.

Tangent means Tangent. Go off on one. Think again."

Meanwhile, RIVERSIDE continue to be productive and have just announced the release of a complementary instrumental album entitled "Eye Of The Soundscape" on October 21st, 2016 via InsideOutMusic. The release again features cover artwork by Travis Smith (see above!) and features 13 experimental and highly atmospheric compositions, which showcase RIVERSIDE's ambient electronic side.

"Eye Of The Soundscape" compiles all the special instrumental RIVERSIDE tracks previously used as bonus material for the "Shrine Of New Generation Slaves" and "Love, Fear and the Time Machine" albums, alongside rare cuts as well as 4 new songs ("Where The River Flows", "Shine", "Sleepwalkers" and "Eye Of The Soundscape") into a massive playing time of +100 minutes, which will be available as 2CD-Mediabook, 3LP (With both CD's as bonus) or Digital Download.

But read what RIVERSIDE's Mariusz Duda had to say about the upcoming release:

"I had a feeling that the sixth RIVERSIDE album might be the last chapter of a story. That the future releases might have a different sound, a different character... Unofficially, I called our latest three albums "the crowd trilogy". Each subsequent title was longer by one word - four, five, six. Six words was long enough as a title and I thought that was the one to finish it off with...

Before we started a new chapter, perhaps a "new trilogy", I had an idea to release a complementary album. An album in between. An album we had always wanted to record. It wouldn't be just new music but in our case and in such configuration it would definitely be a new quality because we hadn't released such an album before.

For years, we have accumulated a lot of material, a part of which was released on bonus discs. I know that some of our listeners still haven't heard those pieces and do not realise that RIVERSIDE, basically right from the start, have been experimenting with ambient and progressive electronic music. And that's always been a part of our music DNA.

So I presented the idea to the rest of the band and the decision was unanimous.
We decided to make a compilation of all our instrumental and ambient pieces, and release it this year as an independent album. Some of the songs would be re-mixed to make them sound better, but most of all, we'd add new compositions.

At the beginning of the year, we locked ourselves in the studio and we started to compose. We even published a picture on our facebook page, in which Grudzień is holding a small keyboard as a joke. That was that recording session. We were working with smiles on our faces, genuinely excited, knowing that this time it wasn't just a bonus disc or an addition to something "bigger" but a fully fledged, independent release with that kind of music, full of space, trance, melodies and electronics. The day before I got a text message from Grudzień, "I really can't wait for this release, I have always had a dream for RIVERSIDE to release such an album."

More details about "Eye Of The Soundscape" to follow soon.

CARLOS VAZ - PROGRESSIVE ROCK & PROGRESSIVE METAL - E-ZINE - Recommends

DARREL TREECE-BIRCH - "No More Time"
Melodic Revolution Records and Darrel Treece-Birch; keyboardist for Ten and Nth Ascension and solo Composer; is set to release his second solo album with Melodic Revolution Records this Autumn – No More Time in early Autumn 2016. Darrel Treece-Birch is a master of imagery choosing water, the very source of life on this planet as the backdrop for the lush 15 tracks, which begin at some distant point outside of our space-time and follow the very essence of human spirit through its journey to finally return home to the Nexus of our eternal regeneration. This exceptional work illustrates the breadth and scope of life, its struggles, fragilities, triumphs and connections; a winding path like the current of the river seeking to understand itself, answers that can only be found within. The complex but somehow familiar themes and melodies cast the soul on a journey that flows with artistic fluidity conveying a meaning that is eternal and universal, like the broken hourglass, our perception belies reality …There is Always Time.
