French Music Legends Magma To Perform With The Mëtalïk Orkestra At The Olympia In Paris - February 2 & 3, 2017!

Paris, France - Bands and trends might come and go, but some of it is meant to stay. Far beyond a mere jolt to the music world or a fad phenomenon, Magma imposed themselves as early as the 1970's thanks to their unconventional and cliché-free approach to music. An unparalleled music, which is as violent as it is clever. Founded by drummer and singer Christian Vander, the band quickly set itself apart from its contemporaries through heavy and ruthless polyrhythmic beats. With a wide range of contemporary musical greats at his side, Vander remains a fine mentor from the likes of Miles Davis.

Since its reunion in 1996, the band has gone on several tours, always followed by its ever-growing and loyal fan base, and attracting an increasingly young audience! The cult band celebrated its 40th anniversary with the release of two Classical influenced bright new albums in 2009 and 2012. For their 45th anniversary, Magma is back with two new opuses respectively titled "Riah Sahiltaahk" and "Slag Tanz", as well as a vinyl reissue of their whole discography. Since 2015, the band has been on a worldwide tour called "Le Tour Sans Fin". Magma's music is timeless.

At the Olympia, Magma will be supported by the Mëtalïk Orkestra, a new creation project. The ensemble will be performing selections from their extensive catalog including Emehntehtt-Ré and Slag Tanz. The orchestra is composed by 27 CMDL students (Didier Lockwood's music school) and from the PSPBB of Paris.

Magma in concert on February 2nd and 3rd at the Olympia in Paris.

COSARARA - "Cosarara"

CosaRara is a project born in 2005, that saw many bandmembers' changes during the years and today eventually manages to record and publish their first eponymous album.
The roots of the group are intimately bound (though not by birth, given the young age of the members) to the '70s prog music; the psychedelic and progressive vein of the band inevitably leads them to experiment with new musical languages, flowing at times into electronica, math and post-rock. The current lineup, made solid not only by time mostly by an intense passion for playing together, present their self-titled album as an arriving and simultaneously starting new point. Six long instrumental tracks - with the exception of the brief interlude "Serenloonies" - that can flow in a single homogeneous mix or be individually listened to, each as a planet in its own, threaded by the band's ability to overlap and merge various sound layers in an often surprising way. In a nutshell, "CosaRara" will undoubtedly awaken the attention of the most hardened 'proggers' too!
Tracklist: 1.Havismat, 2.Serenloonies, 3.Miraggio, 4.iO, 5.Totentanz and 6.Innisfree

JONAS LINDBERG & THE OTHER SIDE - "Pathfinder"

Jonas Lindberg & The Other Side is a Progressive rock project from Stockholm, Sweden founded in 2012 by bassplayer, songwriter and producer Jonas Lindberg. It all started back in 2008 when the EP "IN SECRET PACE" was recorded by Jonas as an exam-project at the college of Music in Piteå, Sweden. The first recordings featured a large lineup of musicians and was originally intended to work as a demo for an upcoming band. But as term ended Jonas moved to Stockholm to pursue a career as a freelance musician and the idea got put on hold. In 2012 "IN SECRET PACE" was finally released on digital platforms as Jonas started to work on new material.  This time the lineup featured a 5 piece band and the second EP "THE OTHER SIDE" was finished and released in 2013. The project was named "JONAS LINDBERG & THE OTHER SIDE" from the title track of the album after its release. Playing on the album is Jonas LINDBERG on bass, backing vocals, keyboards and guitars together with Jonas SUNDQVIST (lead vocals), Jonathan LUNDBERG (drums), Calle STÅLENBRING (guitars) and Michael OTTOSSON (keyboards). Two more musicians, Nicklas THELIN (guitar) and Jenny SANDGREN (vocal) later joined for the live shows.

NOSOUND - "Scintilla"

Nosound's fifth album and includes guest appearances from Anathema's Vincent Cavanagh and acclaimed Italian singer Andrea Chimenti. After a decade of crafting a very particular type of widescreen melancholia and wistful imagery, Nosound's fifth studio album Scintilla introduces a wholly new musical and visual approach for Giancarlo Erra's ever-evolving band. Inspired by personal upheaval and a desire for change, Scintilla is an emotionally complex and musically direct work presenting a stripped-down set of compositions that mark a major departure from Nosound's trademark symphonic lushness and production precision. Taking in influences from Post Rock, Shoegaze and Alt-Singer-Songwriters, the album imaginatively utilises a mostly organic and acoustic sound palette. Musically looser and more sonically intimate than the band's previous releases, Scintilla's emphasis is placed firmly on feeling rather than technique.

3rd EAR EXPERIENCES - "Stones Of A Feather"

On their new album STONES OF A FEATHER  3rd Ear Experience have taken full advantage of the musical possibilities unique to space rock. It is clear that their environment, the Mojave desert, with its wide open spaces, big skies and rugged landscapes, have helped them to blossom a modern desert music, rich in the complex overtones of 60's psychedelic rock.   STONES OF A FEATHER, 3rd Ear Experiences 4th album, is a curious mixture of the old and the new; reaching back into the reckless abandonment of Cream live circa: 1967 to Ornette Coleman's free jazz, diving down into  the deep well of Krautrock to soaring on fuzzy Sabbath like riffs of contemporary stoner rock. Yet no generalization is ultimately true of 3rd Ear Experience.  The music was derived from spontaneous ideas that came up during live jams on their 2015 tour of Europe and from free form jamming at the FurstWurld Gallery of Music and Performing Arts where the band records. The album guests 18 local desert musicians considered by many to be the cream of the desert crop!  Dug Pinnick of Kings X fame, returns once again to add his heavy bottom growl to the brew. Please browse the blog for interesting stories on each of these musicians and how they came to be part of this album.

LEON ALVARADO - "The Future Left Behind"

According to Leon, "The idea of creating a concept album out of instrumental progressive rock music had appealed to me ever since I first heard Rick Wakeman's 'Journey To The Centre of The Earth'. What I found difficult was to create all the individual pieces that would unify the set of ideas into a single concept. It meant for me to come up with a story, some music and a set of visuals that together would form an inclusive experience. I started by working on music that had more of a cinematic feel than my usual, meaning that when played, it evokes certain imagery in the listener's mind."  Says Leon, "My goal was to create something that would combine the artwork and the music into one cohesive vision. I thought that basing my project on a sci-fi story would be very fitting and would give me the necessary creative space to make music that entices the imagination, like what Vangelis', Rick Wakeman's and YES' music do for me."
Leon Alvarado: Keyboards, sequencing, drums, percussion, launch control voices, Billy Sherwood: Lead and rhythm guitars on all except for "To Be Loved", Rick Wakeman: Moog solo on "Launch Overture" and extra keyboards, Johnny Bruhns: Acoustic guitar on "To Be Loved", Steve Thamer: Narration. Produced and mixed by: Leon Alvarado
Guitar tracks produced by: Billy Sherwood, Mastered by: Andy Jackson, All songs by Leon Alvarado except "To Be Loved" by Johnny Bruhns and Leon Alvarado.

KARFAGEN - "Spektra"

The name Karfagen was first heard in 1997 when Antony Kalugin formed the band at school. While he was studying at the architectural university (1998) he began to record the first KARFAGEN album. And then they were two. Antony Kalugin and his close friend Sergei Kovalev (accordion and harmonica).  In 2002 Antony completed his first solo album "the Water" Then there was another period of silence where Antony worked on commercial new age - relax projects. From 2003 - 2005 Antony composed and performed on more than 40 albums, that were released in Russia and Ukraine. With those projects, Antony gathered the necessary funds to record the first KARFAGEN Album and in 2005 the band reformed and went into the studio to record CONTINIUM, the first KARFAGEN album which led the band to sign with UNICORN DIGITAL .

KARMAMOI - "Silence Between Sounds"

The Karmamoi band was born in 2008 as the result of five musicians' desire to create a musical project able to reflect their personality and idea of music. A kind of music in which musical research, melody, electronic music, rock distortions coexist as well as strike a balance, giving expression to a passion- driven, imposing, immediately recognisable sound. "Silence Between Sounds" is the third album from the Italian progressive rock band Karmamoi. Due to changes with band line-up, "Silence Between Sounds" took over two years to realise. Karmamoi used this opportunity creating music in a different way than they have done previously, walking on a new musical path with their personal idea of progressive rock. This process allowed them to progress beyond all previous recorded material. They decided to keep the band without an official vocalist, and for this reason their new album "Silence Between Sounds" features singers. Whilst maintaining the essence of Karmamoi's music, each singer brings their unique vocal characteristics to the music.

Supertramp Founding Member & King Crimson Songwriter Richard Palmer-James Releases Debut Solo Album “Takeaway”

London, UK - Supertramp founding member & King Crimson songwriter Richard Palmer-James has released his debut solo album "Takeaway"! An English songwriter & guitarist, Richard is best known for having written lyrics to several songs by the progressive rock group King Crimson in the early 1970s.

Says Richard, "Having spent the last few decades writing words for other people to sing, and thus being obliged to comply with the ambitions and sensibilities of others, I wanted to present a collection of songs that are uncompromisingly my own.

"I've been trying them out in club and pub appearances as a singer/songwriter, and they seem to work, but I'm very curious to see what sort of reaction this album production, which was realised with the indispensable help of a few talented colleagues from the Munich music scene, might elicit.

"The recordings differ stylistically from most of the stuff I worked on as a hired hand - probably because I enjoy playing acoustic instruments and writing pieces which involve storytelling."

Richard Palmer-James got his start in the music business playing in various Bournemouth bands: The Corvettes, The Palmer-James Group (formed with Alec James), Tetrad, and Ginger Man, all of which also included John Wetton on bass and vocals. He was a founding member of Supertramp; he played guitar, sang vocals and wrote the lyrics for their self-titled debut album under the name Richard Palmer and co-wrote the lyrics of the song "Goldrush", a song written during his days in the band and finally recorded on their 2002 album "Slow Motion".

Richard wrote lyrics for three of King Crimson's albums: "Larks' Tongues in Aspic", "Starless and Bible Black", and "Red". He did not participate in any of King Crimson's recordings, but worked with John Wetton and David Cross after Robert Fripp disbanded the group in 1974.

Richard has lived in Munich since the early 1970s. He worked in Munich on the composition and production of music for films and TV until his activities as a lyricist – for such diverse acts as King Crimson, La Bionda, Mireille Mathieu and Haddaway, among others – took priority, resulting in over 400 published titles. In the 90's, however, he returned to playing guitar regularly, and with the help of the resonator guitar and mandolin began to rediscover in blues and folk music the sources of his
musical inspiration.

In 1978 Richard was visited by John Wetton and W.J. Hutcheson, who were his bandmates in Tetrad, and they recorded as "Jack-Knife" an album with the German drummer Curt Cress in 10 days called "I Wish You Would". He also wrote the English lyrics for the Italo Disco inventors La Bionda.

In 1997 he released a CD with former bandmate John Wetton under the title "Monkey Business", a compilation of unreleased material including some songs that were recorded for the first time in studio, like a King Crimson tune called "Doctor Diamond". In 2015 "I Wish You Would" and "Monkey Business" were released together as a twofer and that continues to be available via this link: http://geni.us/OVtK2P

Today Richard makes his living mainly as a lyricist and performing on guitar live. In support of his new album, Richard Palmer-James will be playing showcase concerts in the UK and Germany.

Jazz Guitar Icon Larry Coryell To Release New Studio Album “Barefoot Man: Sanpaku”

Los Angeles - Much to the excitement of music aficionados worldwide, Jazz guitar icon Larry Coryell, one of the most respected and celebrated guitarists of his generation, offers a brand new album of seven original compositions titled "Barefoot Man: Sanpaku"!
Says Larry, "I was inspired by John Lappen's suggestion that I do a recording similar to one that I did in the 70's that had a lot of energy. Using that as a template I carved out several compositions that I felt would be appropriate. The result was better than I expected; I had a great rhythm section in John Lee and Lee Pierson, and the soloists from Florida, Lynne Arriale and Dan Jordan, played on a world class level. Michael Franklin's production was hands off except for a few relevant suggestions that really helped round out the project."

In addition to Coryell's signature guitar playing, this album features the talents of award-winning pianist Lynne Arriale, longtime Coryell collaborator John Lee on bass, Dan Jordan on saxophone and flute, and drummer Lee Pierson!

MASCHINE launch lyric video for 'Night & Day'

Young British progressive rockers Maschine recently announced the release of their second studio album 'Naturalis' on November 18th, 2016 on InsideOut Music. Now they are pleased to reveal the first track to be taken from the album, and you can watch the lyric video for 'Night & Day' here:

Lead guitarist & vocalist Luke Machin had this to say: "We are hugely proud to share this piece with you all as it's a true gripping story of one man's natural instinct to fight on night and day. The combined creation of the music and visuals has brought this story to life and we are really excited for you to hear it."

You can now pre-order the album digitally from iTunes & Amazon MP3 and receive 'Night & Day' immediately:

The follow-up to the band's debut 'Rubidium', this record is the first to feature drummer James Stewart (Vader) & keyboardist/vocalist Marie-Eve de Gaultier. The 6 tracks that make up the main album fit into a loose concept. Machin continues: "This is basically about natural events. It's something I've been thinking about and working on for some time. My interest really began with the Japanese tsunami in 2011. It had such a far reaching effect on so many people. Once I had the idea for the album fixed in my head, the whole thing just snowballed. But what I didn't want this to be was a record about natural disasters. That can be such a dark subject. What I wanted to emphasise was that there is light at the end of the tunnel. There is hope for mankind. And that's the vibe I wanted to come through."

The album will be released as a special edition Digipak CD & digital download, both featuring two bonus tracks recorded live in 2015 at Veruno Prog Festival in Italy.

The full track-list can be found below:
1. Resistance (11:52)
2. Night And Day (5:08)
3. Make Believe (7:10)
4. Hidden In Plain Sight (7:01)
5. A New Reality (8:45)
6. Megacyma (11:46)
Bonus Tracks
7. Eyes Pt.2 (Live in Veruno) (8:55)
8. Rubidium (Live in Veruno) (8:47)

Since honing their live performance whilst out on tour with Haken & Leprous in 2014, the band have been itching to get back out and are currently confirmed to play HRH Prog Festival in the UK on 17th March 2017 alongside Hawkwind, Curved Air, Hexvessel & more. More dates will be announced soon.

Luke comments of the new material: "The album reflects much more of what we are about. As a progressive band in the true sense of the term, we will never repeat ourselves and will always look to move on. But you can hear a cohesion in our style and sound. We have taken inspirations from so many different areas of music. I have taken the feelings from albums and tracks that make an impression on me, and have brought these to life in Maschine's music."

Band Line-Up:
Luke Machin - guitar/vocals
Elliott Fuller - guitar
Dan Mash - bass
James Stewart - drums
Marie-Eve de Gaultier- keyboards/vocals

Swedish Prog Legends Kaipa DaCapo Feat. Guitar Icon Roine Stolt To Release First New Studio Album In 35 Years - “Dårskapens Monotoni”!

Sweden - Prog dreams do come true! Legendary '70s Swedish Prog ensemble Kaipa DaCapo featuring guitarist Roine Stolt will be releasing a new album "Dårskapens Monotoni" on October 10th on Foxtrot Records!

In the mid 70's the band Kaipa was one of the main acts on the Swedish music scene, alongside groups like Kebnekaise, Samla Mammas Manna, Hoola Bandoola, Bo Hansson, Made in Sweden. Four young men devoted all their time  to the band Kaipa, with regular touring and recordings between the years 1974-1978. Kaipa did many shows, over 100 each year and many live broadcasts on national radio and television. They recorded 3 albums for the DECCA label and were often compared to international contemporary giants of the genre, likeGenesis, YES, Pink Floyd and Focus.

Three of the original members have now re-united and play the music from the most popular albums from their 1970's catalogue, now together with two new younger members - trying to be faithful to the vibe and  sound and 70's style. Ingemar Bergman, Tomas Eriksson and Roine Stolt carry the  torch forward from the 70's - Roine, perhaps the most well know now within progressive circles - with recent success with his own bands "Transatlantic" & "The Flower Kings" - with almost one million albums sold. Lately also as a member of Steve Hackett's touring band  and most notably on a brand new successful collaboration with Jon Anderson of YES - "Invention of Knowledge" - released June this year to thunderous reviews. The duo are working on a follow up to that album - with possible live shows of Anderson & Stolt Orchestra in 2017.

June 2016 saw Kaipa DaCapo record brand new material for the first time in more than 35 years. This is the first full length album with new Kaipa DaCapo music from these gentlemen - recorded in a state of the art studio in a very organic and old fashion way - 5 guys playing the music together in a recording studio.

WEDINGOTH : New album, "Alone In The Crowd"

Wedingoth is a progressive Rock/ metal musical project based on open-mindedness and the mix of styles, which the claimed credo is eclectism. It combines the strength of rock led by a feminine voice full of emotions, with atmospheric touch inviting us to travel backed by an orchestral technic. After two albums (Candlelight in 2009 and The Other Side in 2012) and lots of concerts all around France and Belgium, Wedingoth comes back with more motivation than ever on stage to defend its new opus called "Alone In The Crowd"

What does not kill you makes you stronger...
After keeping silent for four years, Wedingoth comes back with his third album:Alone in the Crowd. With a music of a more progressive rock texture with a tint of aggressive Metal, the opus depicts the feelings of a human being under an emotional shock that affects his mind and isolates him from the external world around him. This album depicts the processes of the thoughts of that character from the black side of his torments to the elevation of the height of the saving light.
Are we the result of our past?

Knight Area - New album "Heaven and Beyond" February 10th on Butler Records

Knight Area signing with Butler Records

New album "Heaven and Beyond" will be released on February 10

Heavy guitars, a thundering rhythm section, smooth synths and melodic vocals, this is the trademark of the Dutch group Knight Area. Presented as both challenging and compact songs, this has already brought the band international success.

Founded in 2004 by keyboard player/composer Gerben Klazinga, Knight Area has grown to be a familiar name in symphonic and (neo-)progressive rock by releasing successful albums and playing live worldwide. On previous albums, the band has cooperated with a.o. Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon, Star One, The Gentle Storm) and Charlotte Wessels (Delain), and since the arrival of guitarist Mark Bogert and bassist Peter Vink (Q65, Finch, Ayreon) a close line-up has been formed. And an impressive one! Both on the album as on stage the band is not afraid to show off their technical skills, however always in a functional way.

After having released multiple albums on the reputed American label The Laser's Edge, the band has now chosen to remain closer to home. The successor to the previous album "Hyperdrive", which was mixed by Joost van den Broek (Epica, After Forerver, Wende Snijders), will be entitled "Heaven and Beyond", and will be released next year on February 10th by Butler Records (Lamb, Anneke van Giersbergen, Ruben Hoeke Band, Donnerwetter), the record label subsidiary of Bertus Distribution.

The album release will be celebrated with a release party on February 11th in De Boerderij, Zoetermeer (NL).

Band line-up:
Mark Smit - lead vocals / keyboard
Gerben Klazinga - keyboards / backing vocals
Mark Bogert - guitar
Pieter van Hoorn - drums / backing vocals
Peter Vink - bass

Legendary Guitarist - John McLaughlin Announces Final US Tour - Revisiting Mahavishnu Orchestra with Jimmy Herring

THE MEETING OF THE SPIRITS TOUR

FEATURING JOHN MCLAUGHLIN & JIMMY HERRING

November - December 2017

LEGENDARY GUITARIST JOHN MCLAUGHLIN REVISITS THE LEGACY OF HIS LEGENDARY MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA ON WHAT LOOKS TO BE HIS FINAL AMERICAN TOUR

(Los Angeles, CA) In a career that spans more than five decades, John McLaughlin has honed a personal vision that transcends all boundaries, becoming one of improvised music's most influential guitarists, composers, and bandleaders. McLaughlin will be joined by the remarkable Jimmy Herring, who has been in the creative forefront of the thriving American rock-jam band movement for 25 years, for what has been dubbed The Meeting of the Spirits tour. Highlighting this musical adventure will be John McLaughlin revisiting the pioneering music he introduced with his deeply influential, genre-defying Mahavishnu Orchestra.  McLaughlin will be backed by his current band, the 4th Dimension – Ranjit Barot (drums), Gary Husband (keyboards, drums), and Etienne M'Bappé (bass) – each an established composer and recording artist in his own right.

McLaughlin strongly feels that this will be his last American performances. He is hoping that all of his friends who have supported him over the years can come out to celebrate this tour with him. After all, it was in America that he met Miles Davis and Tony Williams and played on such trailblazing albums as In a Silent Way and Bitches Brew.  America was the true birthplace of the Mahavishnu Orchestra.

Jimmy Herring, best known for his inspired contributions to the Aquarium Rescue Unit, The Allman Brothers, Widespread Panic, The Dead, and others, will be co-headlining each show with his own band. "Herring possesses the heart and soul of a rocker, the chops and harmonic awareness of a jazz artist, and the simpatico personality of a jam-band player," according to Guitar Player magazine.  2017 also marks the return of Jimmy Herring as a bandleader since touring after his widely acclaimed "Lifeboat" (2008) and "Subject to Change without Notice" (2012).

On The Meeting of the Spirits tour, separate sets by Herring and McLaughlin will be followed by the two joining forces for an expansive closing jam based on classic Mahavishnu Orchestra material. The tour will feature the first extended collaborations between two of world's foremost improvising guitarists. Expect special surprise guests to be added when available.

"The music of Mahavishnu is part of my personal and musical history, and as such it is inseparable from me," McLaughlin reflects. "To return to these pieces with the experience I've had for the past 45 years, since the majority of those pieces were played all those years ago, is very exciting."

Herring adds, "John's influence on me is far-reaching. When first hearing him, I was struck by the raw emotion and technical prowess he has. If you listen to John long enough, the layers of all the things that make him unique will reveal themselves…Inner Mounting Flame changed my life and the way I heard music. By the time I heard it in 1980, John had long since moved on and recreated himself, as he has done many times throughout his career. It is an honor and a privilege to do this tour with John and the 4th Dimension."

McLaughlin's first extensive U.S. tour in seven years, The Meeting of the Spirits also marks his first extended exploration of the Mahavishnu Orchestra material from seminal albums such as Inner Mounting Flame, Birds of Fire, Between Nothingness and Eternity, Visions of the Emerald Beyond and more since the band's original heyday in the 1970s.

"To play the music of Mahavishnu is not for the faint-hearted," says McLaughlin, who celebrates his 75th birthday in 2017. "In fact, among the only people I know who have succeeded in interpreting Mahavishnu music are my two all-time favorite guitarists: Jimmy Herring and Jeff Beck. Jimmy is simply a great guitar player, and since we see so eye to eye in music, I know we will have some extraordinary musical experiences touring together."
