Deventter keyboardist talks about the albums that are most influencing the writing process of the band

The Brazilian progressive rock/metal band DEVENTTER keeps working on the writting process of it's next album. The new CD will be the third of the career, sucessor of Lead... On, voted "Best Brazilian Album" in 2009 by Metal Clube webzine. Hugo Bertolaccini, keyboardist and one of the composers, has elected a list with five albums that are most influencing DEVENTTER during the writting process of the songs that will be on the new album.

Check out the list and comments:

1- A Perfect Circle: Mer De Noms
"Great by the kind of harmony that they work in the music."

2- Stone Sour: Audio Secrecy

3- Nine Inch Nails: Year Zero
"It's too damn good! Everyone needs to listen this record!"

4- Daft Punk: Tron Legacy Soundtrack
"The way this duo joined the orchestrations with synthesizers is fantastic! The soundtrack is cooler than the movie."

NeraNature - cover artwork revealed.

"Foresting Wounds", the debut solo album by Nera, the vocalist of the Polish metal band Darzamat, will be released under the moniker NeraNature. The album contains eleven tracks kept in the climate of atmospheric rock/metal. The cover of Garbage's "The World is Not Enough" greatly fulfills this material. "Shattered", the first track promoting the release is available to stream on Myspace.

NeraNature was founded by Nera in 2009. The project appeared as a space where the air is filled with matters lingering in her head, a bit more intimate, private and sometimes bizarre and freakish. The name of the band is a combination of two words: Nera, the nickname of the vocalist, and Nature, referring to a reflection on a deep connection with the environment. It can also be interpreted as the nature of Nera – a diversity of views reflected in the songs. The feminine character of lyrics imbued with the feminist outlook on life constitutes one of the most significant elements of the projects, touching upon such issues as man's detachment from nature and running away from himself/herself.

Metal Mind Productions set the release date for 9th May in Europe and 12th July in USA (via MVD).

Tracklist:

1. Shattered
2. Precious Now
3. The World is Not Enough* (Garbage's cover)
4. Woman Soul
5. Oblivion
6. Broken
7. Disappointed
8. Some Air
9. Scar
10. Before
11. Dormant
12. Someone

On THIS Youtube website you can find a short trailer promoting the album.

Blackfield - Fans - Aviv Geffen to answer fans questions

Welcome To My DNA, the latest album from Blackfield was released last week (April 19th in USA). Blackfield is the acclaimed collaboration between Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) and Israeli artist Aviv Geffen.

Aviv has recently spoken to the Kscope podcast about the album, the band and his career to date.  Fans will now have their chance to interview Aviv too as he has agreed to take part in a special Q&A session before the band's gig in London on Friday 8th April.  Fans should email questions to thisisnotacompetion@kscopemusic.com (along with their name and where they are from) and Aviv will be filmed answering the questions and the video will be added to the Welcome To My DNA mini-site soon after. We will endeavour to film as many questions as possible but please be aware that due to time constraints he may not be able to answer all questions submitted. Deadline for questions is 10am (UK) on Friday 8th April.

The gig in London is part of a European tour which kicks off this week on April 6th in Leamington. In addition to dates in the UK the band will be visiting Holland, Germany, Poland, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium and France followed by an American tour in May and June (click here for tour dates).

This is the band's first tour for over three years due to both artists' busy schedules. Steven has been enjoying massive success with Porcupine Tree and Aviv has released his first English language solo album (produced by Trevor Horn) and has supported U2 and Placebo. The son of esteemed Israeli poet Yehonatan Geffen and the nephew of Moshe Dayan, Geffen is Israel's leading counter-culture rock musician. A huge star in his native country, his records have been greeted with critical adulation, earning him a string of gold albums. An outspoken peace campaigner, he controversially refused to do compulsory military service, and his lyrics have been fiercely critical of the Israeli military and their actions.

Aviv has worked with various artists throughout his career, including Brett Anderson (Suede), Mercury Rev and Belle and Sebastian, but it has been his partnership with Steven that has proved the most fertile, and both artists have been keen to return to their work with Blackfield and have been working on the album for the last few months. Aviv explains, 'we made the album together, it wasn't an email album. Steven came to Israel and I came to London. We both had a great year, Steven with Porcupine Tree and me with my solo stuff but now it's a Blackfield year and we are both ready for it.'

The digi-book and vinyl editions of the album are all also available to order on the Welcome To My DNA mini-site. The  mini-site features album info, downloads and more along with the chance to download a free MP3 of the album's opening track Glass House when signing up to the mailing list.

'when they come together they create something quite magical ...a thing of melancholic beauty'. Classic Rock

Glen Drover new album on Magna Carta

With the release of his solo debut, Metalusion, guitarist Glen Dover, best known for his precision and power playing with headbanger icons Megadeth and Eidolon, blends the venom and attack of modern metal and the technically demanding musicianship that defines the classic jazz-rock genre.

The instrumental, 10-track Metalusion, featuring five original compositions and metallic- edged interpretations of material composed by musical giants Frank Zappa, Al DiMeola and Jean-Luc Ponty, mixes robust properties that reveal new and mysterious elements of musical genres.

Metalusion presents a side of Drover's musical identity that the metal community has rarely witnessed, while boasting diverse yet highly cohesive tracks. "Each song should sound as though it was meant to be included on the record," says Drover. "Nothing should seem as though it's out of place."

Assisting Drover with forging a perfect musical balance are a number of special guests, including Nevermore's power metal/prog metal guitarist Jeff Loomis, Opeth's and Talisman's ass-kicking axe man Fredrik Åkesson, veteran Steve Smyth of the Bay Area's Forbidden, Ohm's guitar hero and erstwhile Megadeth genius Chris Poland and classical metal master Vinnie Moore of UFO.

Featuring:
Glen Drover - Guitars
Jim Gilmour - Keyboards
Paul Yee - Bass
Chris Sutherland - Drums

1. Ground Zero Special Guests - Chris Poland and Vinnie Moore
2. Frozen Dream Special Guest - Steve Smyth
3. Egyptian Danza [Al DiMeola Cover]

Hugh Cornwell confirms special guests "The Brothers From Brazil"

EXCLUSIVE LIMITED EDITION RELEASE FOR
VIP TICKET HOLDERS ONLY!

To coincide with Hugh Cornwell's upcoming nationwide UK Spring 2011 Tour, the enigmatic former Stranglers front man and singer/songwriter, has announced an "ultra exclusive" limited edition 10-track album release entitled "You're Covered!"

The album, perceived by Stranglers and Hugh Cornwell fans as an essential collector's item, is strictly limited to 250 copies and only available to VIP ticket holders.

VIP tickets are only available from www.seetickets.com or fans can hit the big Red Button on Cornwell's official website – www.hughcornwell.com, where they can hear two exclusive streamed tracks from the CD.

"Over the years I've heard certain songs which have stayed with me and will suddenly pop up into my head for no apparent reason. They range from 'Things' - which I heard as a kid - to 'Hear Me Calling Your Name' which I only heard a few years ago for the first time. This selection is by no means comprehensive but is a cross section of influences." - Hugh Cornwell

"You're Covered!" - Album Track Listing:

 1. "Things" (Bobby Darin)
 2. "She Smiled Sweetly" (Jagger/Richards)
 3. "Message To Pretty" (Arthur Lee)
 4. "His Latest Flame" (Doc Pumus/Mort Shuman)
 5. "The Shrine on the Second Floor" (Heneker/Moore/Norman/Mankowitz)
 6. "Just A Little Too Much" (Johnny Burnette)
 7. "Take A Message To Mary" (Felice and Boudleaux Bryant)
 8. "Hear Me Calling Your Name" (Jack Bruce)
 9. "Full Moon and Empty Arms" (Mossman/Kaye/Rachmaninoff)
10. "The Way Young Lovers Do" (Van Morrison)

Former Stranglers front-man Hugh Cornwell hits the road for a series of UK dates from April 6th 2011, performing his critically acclaimed solo album Guilty in its entirety, plus the following Stranglers epics. The Raven, Schoolmaam, Down in the Sewer, Toiler on the Sea, Walk on By and Feel Like a xxx will all be performed each evening.

"The idea for this tour came from my fans," says Cornwell.  The requests for Guilty haven't stopped since it was first released. Now the fans have heard my interpretation of Rattus, they're demanding to hear the other epics 'a la Hugh'. I can't wait to perform them."

As a special bonus to fans, Hugh will perform Fan Choice Encores which can be voted for at www.hughcornwell.com.  The five songs with the most votes will end the evening.

20 VIP Tickets are available for each date and will enable fans the chance to watch and interact with Hugh before and after the soundcheck, where they will be given an exclusively recorded album entitled Your Covered - limited to 250 copies and signed personally on the night by Hugh.

Hugh Cornwell is one of the UK's finest song-writing talents and accomplished live performers. The original guitarist, singer and main songwriter in The Stranglers enjoyed massive UK and European success with ten hit albums and twenty-one top forty singles, etching himself into the UK's musical psyche with Peaches, No More Heroes, Golden Brown, Always the Sun, Grip, Nice N Sleazy, Duchess, Walk on By, Strange Little Girl and Skin Deep.

Cornwell has released eight solo albums, most recently Hooverdam, produced and mixed in Toerag Studios by Liam Watson, known for the Grammy winning White Stripes' Elephant.

Hooverdam is available as a high-quality free download in twelve languages from his own website, bringing Cornwell's music free to the world's population. It's available as a triple-sleeved digipak featuring both CD and live studio performance DVD Blueprint, in one exclusive package. The album is also issued on vinyl.

With the masterpiece Hooverdam available as a free download, Cornwell breaks new ground and proves himself again to be a unique force in British music.

New Songs for King Kong, a limited edition "live" double CD and vinyl recorded on the last UK tour, featuring Hooverdam and The Stranglers first album Rattus Norvegicus 1V in their entirety, is available exclusively from Cornwell's website.

"Hooverdam is the cousin to Lou Reed's storming 1988 LP New York.
It's a very coherent album with a timeless quality."
- Record Collector

"Cornwell remains a hugely popular & prolific performer whose songwriting retains its fiery eloquence and whose gigs still crackle with electricity"
- Classic Rock

Mangrove will release live recordings for the first time on DVD

On May 28th 2011 Mangrove will release live recordings for the first time on DVD. A special launch party will be held on this date at W2, Den Bosch (NL) to celebrate this. The DVD will be suitably entitled Live Beyond Reality.

It is all about the recordings that were made during the cd release party of the critically acclaimed album "Beyond Reality" that was held at Gigant, Apeldoorn (NL) in 2009.

This DVD will be the first one in a series of three DVDs that will be released in succession. Among this series of course the DVD show at De Boerderij, Zoetermeer (NL) will also be featured. Furthermore the unique acoustic show More or Less will be released on disc as part of this series.

"At first we did not intend to release these recordings on DVD. But we didn't want to keep it away from our fans. There were some magical moments. Says Chris Jonker, keyboard player of the band that will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year.

During the last decade Mangrove has built a solid live reputation. The show in W2 Den Bosch is a unique chance to see Mangrove performing live this spring. And it is also the first opportunity to get hold of a copy of the brand new DVD.

The hard rock band, King’s Row recently released its third major CD “Unbroken.”

The album consists of 12 songs adding up to nearly 78 minutes of blues and progressive rock inspired music.

In 1996, the group started out as the brainchild of Chris Couch, lead guitarist of Jamestown, who contacted Dale Hargis, Fulton, to write and record songs under the name Human Remains.

"He was always trying to get a band together," Hargis says of Couch. "He always wanted to do something original, and at the time, the only thing you could get going was to play covers."

In the mid-1990s, Hargis was getting burned out on playing cover songs in bars and wanted to write and record original music.

"We were both in the same boat," said Hargis.

Couch later added Jim Hare, Mokane, into the mix as the bass player, and several years later, around 2008, Jim Brown of Quincy, Ill. on lead vocals.

"We decided we wanted a different range of vocals that we could not do ourselves, so we put out an advertisement over the Internet for a vocalist to do recording with us," Couch said.

Instead of any money exchanging hands, the group worked out an artistic exchange.

"We had a studio and he had written his own album; we would perform his stuff and do the album for him and he would perform on our album," Couch explains.

Hargis writes most of the lyrics in addition to filling the roles of drummer, rhythm guitar player, keyboardist and back-up vocalist on the musician side, and mixer, engineer and album artist on the production side.

The entire album "Unbroken" was recorded in Hargis's home studio.

Hargis says he likes being able to play different parts in the band, because it allows the members to keep the group simple and cohesive.

"Rather than trying to pull in more people, I can do more than one thing on a song," Hargis said. "Sometimes the fewer people you have collaborating, it goes a little easier."

The name of the band is an homage to Henry Bellamann's famous book about Fulton, "Kings Row."

"It just kind of seemed fitting to utilize that name because of the area that we are in," Couch said.

"We really liked it, because it sounds like you're trying to be a little more artistic, a little more grown-up and it has great significance to the area where we are," explains Hargis.

A grown-up name was necessary for the grown-up sound that the band sought out to make.

"One of the things we try to do is write songs about something instead of being mindless rock music — make the lyrics something you can read by themselves," Hargis said.

While the band aims for a heavier sound, its members aren't afraid to have a little fun.

"It just depends on the music and the mood of all of us at the time," Hargis said.

Jim Brown wrote the lyrics for "Love Denied," the fifth track on the latest album, and the band describes it as fun and quirky.

Overall, the band cites Rush as its major influence, along with Dream Theater and Van Halen but tries to incorporate many different genres into the music.

The band maintains strong connections to the community and recorded an introduction song for the South Callaway football team called "Glory." It relies on word of mouth for exposure, and its albums can be purchased from individual band members, at The Wright Brothers' Store in Callaway County, or online at www.cdbaby.com.

Trevor Horn to produce new Yes album "FLY FROM HERE"

The world's most quintessential Prog Rock band YES, announces today their highly anticipated new album FLY FROM HERE. This marks the first album in ten years with legendary, 2-time Grammy Award winning producer, Trevor Horn.

Horn and YES bassist Chris Squire re-discovered the track FLY FROM HERE which has never been recorded as a studio track. "Chris and I were talking one evening about a song 'Fly From Here' that we never recorded," explains Trevor Horn. "I said I was prepared to spend two weeks with 'YES' recording that song. When I arrived in America to record it, I was taken prisoner by the band and only allowed my freedom again in return for producing the whole album. It was an offer I couldn't refuse!!!"

FLY FROM HERE encompasses YES' signature brand of mysticism and grand-scale compositions. Maintaining a complex, symphonic sound that features the beautiful harmonies and strong heavy riffs they are known for. "The new album represents the best of YES from the 70s and the 80's with a current twist," states Squire.

YES are the pioneers for the use of synthesizers and sound effects in modern music, which produced such timeless, symphonic-rock masterworks as "Roundabout," "Close To the Edge," and "Awaken". YES continued to push the cutting edge of art-rock music to their limits, selling over 30 million albums, reaching platinum status multiple times worldwide.

YES' powerful mainstream progressive compositions have influenced a generation of musicians with a hugely successful and indelible catalogue of music with hit albums such as DRAMA, FRAGILE, CLOSE TO THE EDGE and 90125. Classics such as "Roundabout," a seminal hit which consistently appears on "the best songs of all-time" lists, and the group's #1 hit "Owner of a Lonely Heart," which Horn is responsible for. Taken from the YES album 90125, this single would form part of a unique double, which would see YES and Horn top both the UK and US charts simultaneously.

FLY FROM HERE will be released on Frontiers Records July 2011. More details about the album, its packaging and YES' live plans for the rest of the year will become available shortly.
