The Red Masque is an original avant rock band from the Philadelphia area. Part art, part alchemy, the group's experimental songwriting style is both angular and eerie, accented by freeform space rock improvisations, intricate acoustics, dark atmospherics and chunky riffs. Unconventional and eccentric in musical form, the sophisticatedly sinister The Red Masque fuses together such disparate musical references as horror movie soundtracks, rock-in-opposition, progressive rock, experimental, zeuhl, heavy rock, gothic, psychedelia, space rock, and kraut rock.

Founded in February 2001 by Brandon Lord Ross and Lynnette Shelley, The band's goal was, and is, to create original music that pushes the envelope of the listener's expectations. With such influences as Magma, King Crimson, Hawkwind, Gong, Pink Floyd, Bauhaus, Art Bears, and Van Der Graaf Generator, The Red Masque's compositions are as intense as they are unique.

The band is signed with RER USA.

J.D. Overdrive - two tracks available on Myspace

The debut album of a young but very promising Polish band J.D. Overdrive will be released by Metal Mind Productions in early June. "Sex, Whiskey & Southern Blood" consists of ten tracks (plus a fancy intro) filled with American dirt, including their own interpretation of Jimi Hendrix' classic - "Purple Haze". The band has recently posted a couple of tracks from that album on their Myspace profile. You can find tracks "Ballbreaker" and "Purple Haze" in THIS location.
The band was formed in 2007 when guitarist Michal "Stempel" Stemplowski (along with drummer Luksus and bassist Kuba) recruited vocalist Wojciech "Susel" Kaluza for his new rock project. Soon, out of a few loose ideas came a material that felt like the stench of the muddy waters of Louisiana mixed with a warm breeze of the wind traveling across the Nevada deserts. The American style of stoner rock and southern metal dominated their music completely, eventually giving life to Jack Daniels Overdrive. They self-released their debut EP called "Pure Concentrated Evil", which received a bunch of great reviews in various webzines and magazines. They played their very first show supporting Jesus Chrysler Suicide and the following two opening for Beatallica. In the meantime the band experienced two line-up changes, welcoming in their ranks drummer Lukasz "Jooras" Jurewicz and bassist Lukasz "Peo" Pomietło. In March 2009 they were given the honor of performing in Krakow with the living legend of stoner metal – Phil Anselmo's Down. In the following months came the inevitable – they changed their name to J. D. Overdrive to avoid legal problems with the Tennessee tycoon. And just when they thought that nothing can surprise them – on March 9th, 2011 they opened for Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society in Warsaw. Now, after over three years of gathering experience at numerous live shows and sharpening their material, J.D. Overdrive are proud to bring you their debut album called "Sex, Whiskey & Southern Blood".

"Sex, Whiskey & Southern Blood" will be released in Europe on 6th June and in USA on 12th July (via MVD).

Neil Young "Here We Are In The Years" on DVD June 21

In-depth documentary tracing the enormous range of artists and genres
Neil has drawn inspiration from...
Despite remaining a hugely original singer, songwriter, performer and, let's face it, human being, across a career spanning almost fifty years, Neil Young has never been immune to the influence of others. This will be of no surprise to anyone with even a hint of interest in the man and his music, but only those who have studied their subject in depth will be aware of the enormous range of artists and genres Neil has both been affected by and drawn inspiration from, much of which, if one knows where to look, is apparent in Young's incredible catalogue.

As with so many of his 1960s contemporaries, his first love was the classic rock & roll of the mid-1950s, but as the 50s tuned into the 60s, twangy guitars courtesy of Duane Eddy, The Fireballs and - even more notably - Hank B. Marvin of Brit-instrumentalists The Shadows took over, both for pleasure and for guidance - indeed his first band, The Squires, were dead-ringers for The Shads.

The folk-revival of the late 1950s didn't pass Neil by, and from this genre he was deeply moved  by fellow Canadians Ian & Sylvia, whom Young would never forget, recording their 'Four Strong Winds' in 1978 and still name-dropping the husband and wife act to this day. Bob Dylan's affect on Neil is well known but by mid decade, British folk-blues guitarist and composer Bert Jansch had equally hit a note with Young, and years later they would tread the boards together on many occasions.

But Young wasn't stuck in the decade in which he emerged as a musician. Throughout the late 1960s and the 1970s he kept an ear to the ground and, despite claiming in 1975 that he had given up listening to other people's records, he was clearly enthralled by both the impulse and the sounds of the punk revolution, giving the infamous Johnny Rotten equal credit to recently departed hero Elvis Presley, on his 1979 opus Hey Hey, My My. His work with new-wavers Devo compounded this ongoing delight in new sounds and the technology that accompanied them, and by 1982's Trans it was no secret he'd had Kraftwerk on heavy rotation.

And while during the 1980s he often harked back to styles previously toyed with - country, rockabilly, folk, r'n'b - his early 90s salutations from grunge's finest weren't shrugged off with the kind of disinterest that may have been forthcoming from others of his vintage. Neil both made records with and wrote songs about some of the best of these young upstarts and the teacher became the pupil in a wholly bewildering chain of events.

This film traces the astonishing musical journey of Neil Young from the day he first heard Elvis to his most recent offerings, via the above named and numerous others who assisted in his creation of, arguably, the finest body of work to emerge during the rock era.

Extra features include extended interviews, digital biographies, beyond DVD and more.

Riverside returns to the Laser's Edge for 10th anniversary release

For the band's 10th anniversary, Riverside has prepared a special three song EP entitled Memories In My Head. The release marks the band's return to the Laser's Edge, which will release the EP throughout North America on June 28.

Memories In My Head contains 33 minutes of fresh music. "This new material, concerning (for obvious reasons) the themes of the passing time, will be a pleasant surprise for those who have missed the specific kind of melodies and space known from the band's early releases," says Mariusz Duda, lead vocalist and bassist. "We have consciously gone back to our beginnings to create a certain kind of a circle. This mini-album will contain three longer compositions most resembling those from our first two albums. The result is a quite interesting, spacious, film-soundtrackish, nostalgic, and most of all rock mixture, summing up our career's first decade quite well."

Riverside has performed at all the major progressive rock festivals in North America and Europe. Its extensive touring as a headliner and as a support act for Dream Theater has solidified the band's place in the progressive rock pantheon while establishing a foothold with metal fans as well.

Pink Floyd Redefine Their EMI Legacy

Major Pink Floyd release campaign, Why Pink Floyd ... ?, to include unreleased music from the archives, collectors' box sets and complete studio recordings remastered.

Pink Floyd and EMI Music, whose association dates from 1967, announce a comprehensive release schedule, to be launched on September 26, 2011, encompassing CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs, SACD, an array of digital formats, viral marketing, iPhone Apps and a brand-new single-album 'Best Of' collection.

The legendary band, who are still one of the most successful and iconic artists of all time, recently signed an agreement with EMI which has allowed the development of a multi-format programme of packages, many containing archive material that has been collated during an extensive process between EMI and Pink Floyd for a range of media formats.

The releases, under the banner Why Pink Floyd ... ?, are designed to appeal to a wide cross section of their fans, with music to excite first time listeners, while super-deluxe box sets will cater to dedicated fans, allowing them to immerse themselves in multi-disc sets, containing alternate takes, unreleased tracks, restored live concert screen films and a live recording of the legendary The Dark Side Of The Moon performance at Wembley in 1974.

A series of different listening experiences have been specially created for this release:  in addition to remastered CD's called 'Discovery' and the 'Immersion' CD / DVD / Blu-ray / memorabilia box sets will be a series of 'Experience' Editions – coupling one classic album with a further disc of related content from that album to offer a deeper listening experience.

Roger Faxon, CEO of EMI Group, said: "This is a unique collaboration between EMI and one of the most creative and influential bands in history. We have worked together for more than a year on this programme which incorporates all the elements that have made Pink Floyd one of the most inspiring forces in modern music. Why Pink Floyd? Because their music is without equal and these exciting new releases will allow music fans to rediscover their incredible legacy and demonstrate that an appreciation for artistic quality never goes out of fashion."

Storm Thorgerson, the band's longtime Art Director, has overseen the visual design, including new booklets for all the CD's, new artwork for the box sets and menus for the DVD content. Respected photographer Jill Furmanovsky, has edited books of original unseen photographs. Pink Floyd collaborators James Guthrie (in the US) and Andy Jackson (in the UK) have been in charge of digital remastering to the highest audio and audiovisual standards.

Pink Floyd film archivist Lana Topham has supervised the painstaking restoration of many historic films from Pink Floyd's classic era, included in the 'Immersion' box sets for 'The Dark Side Of The Moon' and 'Wish You Were Here.'

First to be available on 26 September 2011 will be:

Expanded deluxe and special edition versions of Pink Floyd masterwork The Dark Side Of The Moon, in a 6-disc 'Immersion' box set and 'Experience' 2-disc versions, as well as a collectors' vinyl LP and various digital formats. Plus 14 studio albums, digitally remastered will be available separately or as a box set.

Other initiatives will include a digital marketing plan utilising user-generated content to allow fans to make their own creative contributions to the band's music, plus iPhone Apps which will give a unique insight into Pink Floyd's recorded legacy.

On 7 November 2011, Phase 2 of the releases will include:

Wish You Were Here 'Immersion' 5-disc and 'Experience' 2-disc editions, both of which will include bonus material from the band's 1974 Wembley dates, including a 20-minute tour de force live rendition of 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond', as well as a unique recording of 'Wish You Were Here' featuring the legendary jazz violinist, Stephane Grappelli. A collectors' vinyl LP will also be available, as will various digital formats.

Released simultaneously will be A Foot In The Door - The Best Of Pink Floyd, a collection of their most well known songs, contained on one album for the first time.

The long-awaited 5.1 version of 'Wish You Were Here,' mixed by James Guthrie, will also be released in parallel via independent label Acoustic Sounds.

The Wall, which has sold 25-million double sets and has become a cultural and political touchstone over the last three decades, will be afforded the same exhaustive treatment on February 27, 2012, with deluxe packages including a 7-disc 'Immersion' set and a 3-disc 'Experience' edition. A collectors' vinyl LP will also be available, as will various digital formats.

Pink Floyd's official website, www.pinkfloyd.com, will be given a substantial relaunch from today. Pink Floyd's Facebook page now has over 11 million followers.

Salim Ghazi Saeedi, an Iranian composer and guitarist a member from Arashk band and his new album

A "progressive" musician knows no border; but it seems that Salim Ghazi Saeedi's ancestors enjoy hunting him down in his veins!

Iran, Tehran, Apr 2011- Salim grew up in Iran; a country too proud of its ancient art. Nevertheless Salim from his early childhood, barely followed Iranian traditional music. But interestingly enough, now after 5 years of music composing and releasing 4 albums mostly in progressive rock, Salim is constantly receiving notions about his Middle Eastern themes and using Persian influences.

The oriental mystery within eastern musical themes along with their dance elements versus raw energy restrained in western rock could result in a thrilling experience. Meanwhile to Salim's own surprise: "My music listening habit has mostly been focused around jazz, blues and modern rock. I've never studied eastern music or dedicatedly listened to such records! Actually if there is any eastern influence discernible in my works, it has happened involuntarily."

In this regard, one may conclude that as a musician, no matter which genre you prefer or what listening habit you adopt, sometimes you cannot elude your ancestors, who may have hunted you in your veins for centuries! The following speculations on Salim's latest release, Iconophobic, may testify the eastern lore within Salim's veins while his ears dignify western tradition:

- "It mixes classical, rock, jazz and Persian music to create a mish mash of pain, longing and anger." -Stave Magazine, Christy Claxton, Aug 2010 [more]
- "Equal parts fusion, classical, heavy rock, and Persian" -Spiritual Prog, Oct 2010 [more]
- "You do hear the definite eastern sound mixed in with most of his songs." -ProgNaut webzine, Lee Henderson, Oct 2010 [more]
- "We can appreciate the writing skills of Salim and his great imagination to create images and sounds to merge styles that are located in the middle of far apart East and West" [In Italian] -Arlequins webzine, Jessica Attene, Oct 2010 [more]
- "There are definitely some Middle-Eastern sounds..." -Music Street Journal, Issue 85, Gary Hill, Dec 2010 [more]
- "With his one-man band, the artist also detour into areas such as fusion / jazz-rock and oriental music." [In German] -Babyblaue Prog, Siggy Zielinskim, Oct 2010 [more]
- "Asian-Iranian folklore patterns combined with Western rock music." [In German] -Progressive Newsletter #70, Volkmar Mantei, Nov 2010 [more]
Salim Ghazi Saeedi born in 1981 in Iran, Tehran. Since 1999 he started self-teaching guitar and music composition. He has composed three albums "Abrahadabra" (2006), "Sovereign" (2007) and "Ustuqus-al-Uss" (2008) in the band Arashk. His fourth album, "Iconophobic" released in 2010 under his own title in which he played the roles of composer, guitarist, keyboard player, drums arranger, mixing engineer and producer.

His albums could be regarded as concept albums hiring elements of classical and electronic music and progressive rock with diversified use of instruments. He describes himself as "an ever improviser... either in performing or composing!"

Beside being an instrumentalist and composer he has also extensive experience in sound recording and studio devices including controllers, keyboards and DAW based music production and related hardware/software

NeraNature - "Precious Now" video on YouTube

This Monday was the day of the official premiere of the debut solo album by Nera, Darzamat's singer, entitled "Foresting Wounds". The next song promoting this album is "Precious Now", for which a video has been shot. The video can be viewed on Metal Mind Productions' official channel on YouTube.

Nera comments on the video: "Actually we chose the song 'Precious Now' months ago, since it's one of my favourite tracks on the album. The script was being shaped in my head week after week, though shooting the video took us only a couple of days. On the literal level, it's about running away from the city to slow down the pace, gather one's thoughts, to spend some time in solitude. The lyrics, in turn, are about enjoying the "here and now", leaving all troublesome memories behind, as also breaking free from the snares of one's plans for the future. All we have is this passing moment..."

The video was shot and edited by a young artist going by the pseudonym Stanley McNoly.
NeraNature was founded by Nera in 2009. The project appeared as a space where the air is filled with matters lingering in her head, a bit more intimate, private and sometimes bizarre and freakish. "I've been waiting for a long time for the right place and time to find an outlet for my personal thoughts and beliefs. This is the time and place" – explains Nera. The name of the band is a combination of two words: Nera, the nickname of the vocalist, and Nature, referring to a reflection on a deep connection with the environment. It can also be interpreted as the nature of Nera – a diversity of views reflected in the songs. The feminine character of lyrics imbued with the feminist outlook on life constitutes one of the most significant elements of the projects, touching upon such issues as man's detachment from nature and running away from himself/herself.

"Foresting Wounds" contains 12 compositions including Garbage's cover "The World Is Not Enough". The album is out now in Europe. US' release date has been set up for 12th July (via MVD).

Progressive Rock & Progressive Metal - E-Zine

BASICK RECORDS is extremely pleased to welcome the incredible talent of UNEVEN STRUCTURE to its ranks!

A truly exciting prospect for the future of heavy music, UNEVEN STRUCTURE disassemble and reconstruct the Metal genre we all know and love, by creating contemporary atmospheric movements that are all at once dripping with seductive cinematic ambience and groove-laden riffs.

BASICK label boss, Barley comments on the signing: "I'd been following this band's movements with interest for quite some time before I finally got to see them play live in Germany at last year's Euroblast Festival. Within 30 seconds of them taking to the stage and diving into their set, my jaw was on the floor. Meshuggah-like precision combined with a TesseracT-like ethereal atmosphere made for a completely spine-tingling experience. I knew there and then that we had to sign them. I can't wait for you all to hear this album!"

Igor Omodei, guitarist and producer with the band comments: "We are so glad to be working with BASICK, a label that completely understands and allows us the creative freedom we are looking for. We've endured a lot of hard work and effort in order to create our debut album 'Februus' and it's a great pleasure to know that we can count on Barley's team to push things forward and nail its release in perfect conditions. THALL."

Set for release via BASICK later this year, the band's debut album 'Februus' is a veritable triumph for deep, intelligent, forward-thinking Metal.

Other D97 News
-D97 is one of 9 bands entered into a contest affiliated with CBS. If we make the top 3 we get to film a documentary w/concert footage (DVD bonus feature?). If we win, we headline a show at Chicago's Metro. Voting is really simple (must be logged onto Facebook). We'd appreciate your mouse-click at http://botb.tribecaflashpoint.com/band01.php if you have a moment. You can vote once a day through Friday.

-Here's a second contest where we could win a ton of gear with the help of your mouse-click (takes about 3 seconds): http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/breakingout/video_contest/2/videos/all/1651

-This isn't D97, but it features 4 of the 5 of us (no Rob) doing a version of that 80's gem "Walking on Sunshine". Free download at http://lesliehunt.bandcamp.com/track/walkin-on-sunshine

-D97 is most likely entering the studio in June to begin work on our 2nd CD. We're really excited about the new material and can't wait to share it with you all. Problem is, studio time is expensive! If you'd like to help ensure the album reaches its potential, please consider making a donation through our site at http://district97.net/merch.html. We've got lots of gifts for those who do (credit in the liner notes, signed merch, play on the album etc.)! Regular purchases are a great help too.

- From cellist Katinka Kleijn, "Dear District 97 fans, I am very sad to announce that due to the commitments that my job at the Chicago Symphony as well as solo projects require, I can no longer fulfill my responsibilities as a band member of District 97. It has been a blast (literally ;) and an amazing adventure for me, that widened my musical mind and horizon. The musicians of District 97 are some of the most inspiring and brilliant musicians I have ever played with, and I know that very great things are in the future for District 97. Thank you everybody for your awesome support in the last years and for listening!!!" We thank Katinka for lending her singular talents to us during the past few years, and wish her all the best in her future endeavours. In the meantime, there are many exciting things in store for District 97 that we can't wait to share with all of our fantastic supporters!

Black Country Communion: Free download, Digipack pre-order & Led Zep rarity

Black Country Communion have just issued a free download of the first track  from their forthcoming second studio album "2". Entitled "The Outsider", the new song is available as a free download from the Official BCC website http://bccommunion.com/outsider/.

In the UK and the rest of Europe, Mascot Records will issue an exclusive limited edition digipack of Black Country Communion's "2" album, produced by Kevin Shirley (Aerosmith, Journey, Black Crowes). The limited edition digipack is available for pre-order now, and includes hand-written liner notes from each member of the band, plus exclusive photographs. The sleeve artwork will be embossed in a high quality "grain texture" finishing.

Fans can order the limited edition CD digipack from Amazon UK: http://amzn.to/ipSfbr, and Play.com: http://bit.ly/lBOr0V. An exclusive double gatefold vinyl edition can be ordered from Amazon UK: http://amzn.to/isMIO5.

The forthcoming BCC album features the song "Save Me", originally intended to be performed by Led Zeppelin after their 2007 reunion concert at London's O2 Arena. The song, written by Jason Bonham, was intended to be worked on by Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page, but was abandoned when Robert Plant opted out from touring with the band.

Earlier this year, before Jason entered the studio to record the new Black Country album, he gave "Save Me" to BCC's vocalist/bassist Glenn Hughes, who finished the arrangement and wrote the lyrics. "Save Me originally started off as an idea that I worked on with Jimmy and John," says Bonham. "You'll
notice it - there's a slight Zepesque riff - It's got a definite feel to it."

ALIASES announce details of their new record!

British technical wizards and genre-molding mentalists ALIASES are ready to push musical boundaries even further with the announcement of their forthcoming debut release, 'Safer Than Reality' which is out on August 15th via Basick Records.

Over the course of eight tracks and 28 minutes, 'Safer Than Reality' is an athletic display of technical metal and progressive groove delivered with an addictive, head banging immediacy that is set to mentally engage and challenge the listener.

The stunning cover artwork for Safer Than Reality was designed by Seldon Hunt (Neurosis, Jesu, Isis, The Melvins)

Basick Records boss, Barley commented: "I'm stoked to finally announce the details of what will be one of this year's most blistering debut records! Over the past few months we've been working tirelessly with ALIASES, getting everything ready and putting the last few pieces of the jigsaw in place in order for this record to achieve the impact it rightly deserves. This record is everything I hoped it would be. I can't wait for you all to hear it! Also, keep your eyes peeled for a brand new video and some free ALIASES music coming your way this Summer."

Having only finalised their line up in April last year ALIASES rose from the melting-pot minds of ex SikTh guitarist Pin, guitarist Leah Woodward, drummer Darren Pugh, bassist Joe Heaton and vocalist Jay Berast. The phenomenal response to their online release of the demo track "We Never Should Have Met" prompted an invitation to play their debut show at the prestigious Euroblast festival in Germany, where they inked their deal with Basick. Following in the spirit of Pin's legendary legacy, ALIASES are redefining the genre's boundaries, with a hunger for experimentation and no fear of extremes.

Guitarist Pin said: "It's a truly momentous occasion for us to know that part one of the ALIASES story is finally going to hit many pairs of ears across the globe. We are interested only in taking Metal on a new and limitless path, allowing the music and vocals to grow organically and exist outside the common constraints of a single genre. Our focus now is to hit as many stages as possible and make this long journey the start of an epic high."

Safer Than Reality Track Listing:
1)       What's Left for Us?
2)       The Reality of Beliefs
3)       We Never Should Have Met
4)       Refraction
5)       All That Glitters is Gold
6)       While I Drown
7)       The Beginning Has No End
8)       Sirens

ALIASES debut, 'Safer Than Reality', will be released on Aug 15th, 2011. The band is currently busy writing their follow up album due in 2012 and will be touring later this year.

ALIASES are:

Jay Berast: Vocals
PIN: Guitar
Leah Woodward: Guitar
Joe Heaton:  Bass
Darren Pugh:  Drums
