Knight Area – “Afraid Of The Dark” from “Hyperlive” DVD now on YouTube

Knight Area, a progressive-rock band from Holland, released in mid November their first live DVD. „Hyperlive" was recorded in April earlier this year in Katowice, Poland, where the band supported British band Arena. "Afraid Of The Dark", a track from the DVD, is now available on Metal Mind Productions' channel YouTube in THIS location.

Knight Area is a Dutch progressive rock band which was formed in 2004 by brothers Joop and Gerben Klazinga. The band play rock music, with roots in symphonic and neo-progressive rock. The music blends a variety of styles using very melodic keyboards and guitars and the dynamic songs vary from ballads to more rock and metal kind of music. In October 2014, the band released their fifth studio album "Hyperdrive". The album was mixed by Joost van den Broek (After Forever, Ayreon, Star One) and Arjen Anthony Lucassen (Ayreon, Star One) contributed to the album by playing guitar on one track. In April 2015, the band played in Poland for the first time as support for Arena (UK). One of the shows was recorded by Metal Mind Productions. "Hyperlive" DVD was released worldwide on November, 13th.

URIAH HEEP Announces the Release of Obscure Re-Recordings Anthology, Now Re-Branded Totally Driven - OUT NOW!



London, UK - Legendary band URIAH HEEP was formed in 1969 and still actively tours the world today. This release re-brands a previously released obscure re-recordings anthology as TOTALLY DRIVEN. The album features 27 re-recordings made in 2001 including the HITS Lady in Black, July Morning and Easy Livin'. 
 
This album features the band's longest running line-up of MICK BOX, LEE KERSLAKE, PHIL LANZON, BERNIE SHAW and the late TREVOR BOLDER. This release is the first on the band's own URIAH HEEP RECORDS.
 
Of the release, Mick Box said "The 'Totally Driven' recordings were made while we were in preparation for the 'Acoustically Driven' and 'Electrically Driven' concerts. Previously these 2001 recordings were released under the confusing name 'Remasters', but that title went out of print very quickly. This re-release has had the band's full input, including in its re-branding as 'Totally Driven' and will be the very first release on our own Uriah Heep Records. 'Appy Days!"
 
Totally Driven is housed in a 6 panel digi-pack with new custom artwork by Igor Morski.

BEARDFISH’s RIKARD SJÖBLOM Announces Solo Album “The Unbendable Sleep”


Swedish progressive rock purveyors, Beardfish have been one of the most prolific bands on the scene for almost two decades. Founded by multi-instrumentalist Rikard Sjöblom, the band has been on a winning streak since 2001.

However, Sjöblom has been a part of different music projects over the years, most notably he released albums under the name Gungfly, and he has also been a part of UK progressive rock band Big Big Train recently.

Over the past few months, Rikard worked on a solo album which will be released in February 2016. Titled "The Unbendable Sleep," the record brings eight songs which certainly possess quality to appeal to music fans of different genres. Sjöblom has once again created a diverse album, but in a more intimate format than we are accustomed to.

Speaking about his decision to release an album under his name at this point of his career, Rikard says: "There are a number of reasons why I did this, but the main one is that Gungfly which started out as a solo project later became more of a band with members and all that and it's a really good band and I love it and all that but I guess to really be solo you almost have to use your birth name?

He continues: "I've only released one album under my name before and that was recorded in 2003, released in 2006. It's called 'Cyklonmannen' and it's an instrumental, musical interpretation of a novel with the same name written by Sweden's only beatnik writer Sture Dahlström. It's pretty obscure stuff! But, the guy who made quite a lot of the book covers for Sture is called Bernt Daniels and he's the same guy who has painted the cover painting of 'The Unbendable Sleep.' So that was another reason, because when I asked permission from Bernt to use the book cover back in 2006 he sent me this postcard with this painting on it and it was Beste Schweizermilch, the very same painting you see on the cover of 'The Unbendable Sleep,' and I just fell in love with it and decided that I wanted to use it someday. So, it's quite fitting that Bernt Daniels has made the cover paintings of the only two albums I've made as Rikard Sjöblom, don't you think?

"It also feels like it's the right time to do it because right now I'm involved in many different interesting projects and I've longed to make something that is completely me now for a while, so it's the right time!"

Thematically, "The Unbendable Sleep" goes around the usual subjects: love, life, death, and it deals a lot with self-esteem and believing in yourself. "Sounds cheesy, I know, but it's pretty important stuff," Rikard continues. "I found myself singing about mirrors quite a lot and that's also referring to just that, looking into the mirror and not recognizing the person staring back at you."

Sjöblom says that he has plans for performing these songs live. "I really want to take this music out on the road," he admits, "but I don't want to lock myself in with just doing band-stuff. At the moment I'm very much into to doing solo shows as well with just an acoustic (and maybe an electric too) guitar and my voice, but you can't do that with all of the material, so there will be a full on band as well. Hopefully I can book something in the near future!"

"The Unbendable Sleep" will be available starting February as digital download and CD via Gungfly Productions. The vinyl version of the album will be available from Plane Groovy.

MAGNUM - New album Sacred Blood "Divine" Lies out February 26th, 2016

For a musician like Tony Clarkin who composes constantly, viewing and selecting the material he has written is always one of the most significant moments during the creation process of a new Magnum album. On the one hand it's a luxury to have the opportunity to separate the wheat from the chaff and to be in a position to use only the strongest numbers. On the other hand it's also a difficult process, because after all the creator of those songs has grown fond of every single one of them. "I usually start composing for our next album immediately after the release of the previous one," Clarkin explains. "When Escape From The Shadow Garden arrived at the stores in March 2014, my thoughts had already turned to our next recording." Clarkin wrote 25 new songs during the subsequent mo nths, the most promising 13 of which were selected for Sacred Blood "Divine" Lies. Ten of those tracks made it onto the new album, the other three onto the included bonus CD. "It would have been too much of a shame to disregard them," Clarkin reckons, "particularly since our fans want to know after every release what happened to the rest of the material. This time they're getting it in addition to the album tracks."

The ten numbers on the regular album present Magnum from their most rocking side again. The epicentre of this soundquake features, along with frontman Bob Catley's charismatic voice, Clarkin's awesome riff and lead guitar which provides the all-important substructure to the songs. Courtesy of his driving style, Sacred Blood "Divine" Lies counts without a doubt among the group's most dynamic releases. Clarkin: "I've always been into rock numbers. But it isn't necessarily that easy to write really good rock material. It's much more simple to compose a ballad. But that dynamic pace suits Magnum perfectly."

Clarkin is referring mainly to the title track and opener of the new album. "I feel that Bob delivered it really well," Clarkin praises his vocalist Bob Catley. "As far as I am concerned, ´Sacred Blood – Devine Lies` is definitely likely to join the ranks of great Magnum classics." So it comes as no surprise that Sacred Blood "Divine" Lies with its significant message became the album title.

Of course there are more highlights on this thoroughly powerful recording. Clarkin was inspired to write the anthemnic ´Gypsy Queen` at a concert in St. Petersburg, a city which deeply impressed him with its unique atmosphere. By no means less memorable is ´Your Dreams Won't Die´ which is based on a piano chord sequence and could lead you to believe that Magnum have put to music their own band philosophy. "To me, the title and lyrics have an almost religious depth," says Clarkin. "There's a saying that somebody is not forgotten if their name is remembered." A successful rock group like Magnum should be entitled to eternal renown, shouldn't it? Says Clarkin: "You want my honest opinion? I don't think that far ahead, but of course it's a nice notion that this band may always be remembered because so many people love our music."

And last but not least: Sacred Blood "Divine" Lies closes with a song which surprised even Clarkin. "I liked the general sound of ´Don't Cry Baby` from the start," he remarks. "Although I initially didn't have a lyric, the melody kept going through my head, as well as the chorus with acoustic and e-guitars plus piano. We even kept the drums from the demo version because our drummer Harry James liked them so much. He said: ´I love it the way it is. We shouldn't change a thing about it.`"

So here it is: Sacred Blood "Divine" Lies - again with a fantastic cover by Rodney Matthews - has been scheduled for release by Steamhammer/SPV on 26 February 2016 as digipak version incl. DVD, 2LP coloured version, CD and Download and will – you don't need to be a clairvoyant to predict this – be loved by the band's fans. That Clarkin will probably already have his mind on Magnum's next release by that time – well, that's another story.

Says Bozzio, "I've been composing, (not just song writing, like for Missing Persons & Jeff Beck) since the '70s. I compose in all styles (as one might classify them), from classical to ambient, electronic, film-like to fusion/rock or jazz. I have my own character or personality, it's unique. I work with many different processes from writing notes on paper, to recording live, to several different computer software applications I may use, that are suited to the particular result I am trying to achieve. Both Zappa & famed musicologist Nicolas Slonimsky encouraged me to compose & I have had my Chamberworks performed at the Vienna Jazz Festival & in Holland w/Metropol Orkest."

He continued, "I first got interested in Art & Sketching at the encouragement of renowned artist Don Van Vliet (aka: Captain Beefheart) who I played with on my first Zappa/Mothers of Invention tour in 1975. Don was always carrying markers & paper & it looked like fun, so I bought some myself & started. He was very encouraging. Last year, I released my first project called Rhythm & Sketch in collaboration with the art group Scene Four. It's been successful & inspired me to do more. (available at www.terrybozzioart.com)"

Terry Bozzio fulfilled a major 2 &1/2 month US solo tour in 2014 in which he displayed his art as a stage set while performing melodic, tuned melodies on his strikingly large drum set, to sold out crowds.

"I thought it would be great to share this music which I've been working on & keeping to myself for so long. I hope to show a different side of my expression from what people are used to seeing from my solo drumming. And, I wanted to have an abstract painting to represent & be paired with each title to create this hybrid project of music & art," Bozzio explained.

The "Composer Series" contains 59 individual pieces or movements of compositions with a painting in a booklet for each title, along with detailed liner notes for each piece, explaining his concepts, feelings, process and approach for each. It will be available in a deluxe hard-cover artbook which includes Terry Bozzio's hand drawn illustrations and commentary for each piece, audio CDs & a solo drum performance Blu-Ray shot in Japan in 2015 (w/bonus footage), 192kHz/24bit Hi-Res audio of the 59 pieces on Blu-ray and a bonus DVD including 60min talk session of Terry Bozzio with Masa Ito. The material will also be made available in CD/DVD or 4CD/Blu-ray for record stores, as well as in many or individual downloadable formats online.

ASHBY - "Fragmenta"
Ashby is a progressive rock quintet from Germany. Since its foundation in summer of 2011, the band can proudly look back and be proud of what they accomplished up to now. On the way to the first performance of the band, Frank Bornemann (Leader of Eloy and producer of Guano Apes) as well as Patrick Sepke were very impressed by the sound of the young band. After a six month period writing and composing, Ashby presents their first EP entitled: "A Question Never Heard" (05/2013), which was produced at the legendary Horus Sound Studio in Hannover, Germany. Many good responses and feedback came from online and printed magazines such as (Eclipsed & Rocktimes). In their beginning, the band played smaller gigs,but that would be for just a very short period of time. Not long after, the band were invited to play bigger menus and popular festivals such as "Hells Kitchen Fest", "Essen Original" (with Powerwolf) and "Eier mit Speck Festival" in Viersen (including Knorkator). Sabina Moser (Vocalist of the Band), had a very sucessful year in 2014 which drew much attention to her and the band, like the German Casting Show (The Voice of Germany) and with reason.

After appearing in the ProgYes Festival in 2012, Singer/Songwriter Tim Hunter and Silver Lining's vocalist Thierry Sportouche decided to start an Anglo/French music project called Silver Hunter, to focus on 1970s 'prog' influenced pop and rock. The intention is to blend two styles: melodic accessible music with progressive, theatrical rock. April 2015: Silver Hunter's first mini-album is out! It was recorded at the Smokehouse Studios, Wapping, London, Tim's Northern Soundscapes studios in Yorkshire and Thierry's Florrow studio in Lyon. "Thierry Sportouche, haunted by the esoteric progressive meanderings, invented premonitory dreams, daring musical experiences in the heart of fantasy. Sportouche is the master of his future. What a great idea sharing his desires with Tim Hunter, an atypical and so gifted musician. Sprinkled with mellotron, a zest of flute and spatial guitars, all in a great mix, they offer an amazing duet that would be a shame to miss." (Special Mention: "The man in the moon ")

Having celebrated their 40th anniversary in 2013, Runrig have taken the decision to embark on one final creative journey into the studio. The result is The Story; an album of emotional resonance and reflection, placing at its heart, a narrative that is very much part of the band itself. "This is the band's last studio recording, a hugely significant milestone for us all and one that we really want to celebrate," says Rory McDonald, Runrig's bass guitarist, backing vocalist and one of their original founding members. 

"One of the highlights of the album was being able to go to Prague to record the 32- piece Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, says Brian Hurrren, who produced the new album and plays keyboards, accordion and sings backing vocals. "It was an incredible experience and it really helped to bring out the emotion in the songs."  Adds original founding member, percussionist and songwriter Calum MacDonald - "There are many stories on the album but none more so than that of the band itself. It's fair to say that a number of the songs have a definite reflective quality."

British heavy metal legend TANK return this Autumn with their tenth studio album! "Valley Of Tears" is their first album release featuring the amazing vocal talents of former Dragonforce frontman ZP Theart and marks a new era for the band. The vocalist injected new energy and inspiration into the band since joining them in 2013 and now it's time to capture this sound on the new record! To complement ZP's vocals TANK now have one of the best rhythm sections in metal: Bobby Schottkowski, formerly drumming with Sodom and current Blind Guardian member - Barend Courbois on bass. Unreleased Greg Lake & Geoff Downes Album “Ride The Tiger” Released - OUT NOW!


London, UK- Much to the excitement of music aficionados worldwide, an unreleased album by legendary GREG LAKE & GEOFF DOWNES titled "RIDE THE TIGER" has finally seen the light of day! Greg Lake is the co-founder of KING CRIMSON and EMERSON LAKE AND PALMER (ELP), and wrote the hit "LUCKY MAN" and co-wrote "I BELIEVE IN FATHER CHRISTMAS". Geoff Downes is the keyboardist in THE BUGGLES, ASIA and YES, and co-wrote the hits "VIDEO KILLED THE RADIO STAR" and "HEAT OF THE MOMENT".

"Ride the Tiger" contains six songs which the duo wrote together - one went on to became an ASIA song and two became ELP songs. Four of these tracks had been released on compilations before, but this is the FIRST TIME they have been collected together with TWO PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED tracks PLUS one alternate mix.

"To be honest I thought that these recordings had simply disappeared off the radar until one of my management team, Daniel Earnshaw, reminded me of their existence. My initial reaction was not entirely positive as I generally view many of these re-releases to be a bit tiresome, however, upon hearing these recordings again I immediately identified their value, both in terms of song writing and of musicianship and production. Geoff, of course, is a masterful musician with an instinctive ability to maximise the potential of any song both as a player and as an arranger.
