Robert John Godfrey - A Very Circular Story - By The Enid

Peter

In 1966 I became friends with Peter Roberts, one of the most extraordinary people of my own generation I ever had the pleasure to meet. He was a charismatic actor with an amazing theatrical voice. Although I knew he was a little mad, nevertheless I thought he would end up having a great career on the stage. In early 1974 I asked him if he would like to be part of a music project I was planning to put together with a group of slightly younger guys from my former "educational establishment".

He was due to join The Enid in Maidstone in January 1975. However, during his Christmas in Brighton where he was "doing a panto", something went terribly wrong. Peter blew a fuse and on New Year's Eve he returned to his flat in London and killed himself. I have never found out why.
Peter Roberts was irreplaceable in my scheme of things and after a sad pause; the band re-jigged its collective creative mind and transformed itself into a purely instrumental project.

Joe

Nearly forty years later another young man has walked into our lives. Like Peter, Joe Payne has a theatrical background and an amazing voice. As my story with The Enid begins to come to a close, a new incarnation of the band is in the ascendant. For me this is a truly transformational
"Shiva" moment. It is a compelling example of the way that life is interconnected through all of space and time, thus giving shape and meaning to the life I have now largely lived.

A Unique And Powerful Joy

I ask you all to welcome Joe Payne into The Enid family with open hearts and give him all your encouragement and love. He and his young tribe of gifted musicians will bring you, and those who follow onwards, a unique and powerful joy.

Lots of love is coming your way, for sure.

4th Dimension - The White Path To Rebirth / 'Check them out in the new issue of Fireworks Magazine'

4TH DIMENSION were founded in 2005 by singer Andrea Bicego and keyboard player Talete Fusaro. Since the beginning the band focused on symphonic power metal, following the steps of bands like Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica, Rhapsody of Fire & more. During the first year the current line-up was built, comprising also drummer Massimiliano Forte, guitarist Michele Segafredo and bass player Stefano Pinaroli.

In 2008 4TH DIMENSION recorded their first song "THE SUN IN MY LIFE" which appeared on the compilation "TOTAL INVASION vol. 3", (which was distributed with a run of 20.000 copies in Germany and Italy during Wacken Open Air & Gods of Metal festivals).

Soon after, ALESSIO LUCATTI (Vision Divine's keyboard player) decided to produce 4TH DIMENSION's debut "THE WHITE PATH TO REBIRTH", bringing in also FABIO LIONE (Rhapsody of Fire's singer) as a very special guest on "A New Dimension" and leaving his mark with an amazing solo on "Goldeneyes". Well known singer MELODY CASTELLARI also accepted the band's invitation to duet with singer Andrea on "Everlasting". The album was released in 2011 by Crash & Burn Records and distributed worldwide by Twilight and well received by press and metal fans . Between February and March 2011 4TH DIMENSION supported SONATA ARCTICA during 11 dates of their THE DAYS OF GRAYS 2011 European Tour (incuding the sold-out show in Milan in front of 2500 people!)

Prisma - You Name It 'Progressive Rock'

Prisma, the Swiss Rockquartett, was formed in 2004.

After winning a newcomer competition in 2005, they could play their first international gigs.

In coorperation with the Zurich Opera House and Howie Weinberg (The Mars Volta, Smashing Pumpkins) they released their first longplayer in 2008 on the label Galileo Records.

"Collusion" got excellent reviews in swiss and german rock-magazines.

With their debut-album, Prisma traveled halfway around the world. They played in clubs and festivals in Bosnia, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Italy and Mexico, and shared the stage with Coheed and Cambria, Mick Pointer, Therapy, Pain Of Salvation, Riverside or Gotthard.

Since then they continuously developed their mix of alternative rock, ambient and metal. Pushing basslines, tricky rhythms, explosive guitar runs and the distinctive voice are trademarks of Prisma.

Now comes the second strike: "You Name It," the second album, stands for sophisticated rock, where the evocative, characterful voice bursts from the center. The rich, powerful sound (mixed by Tommy Vetterli - Coroners), the outstanding musical and technical skills of the quartet, and the complex, but very tasteful arrangements will inspire progfans as rock and metal listeners.

On the stage, Prisma will be supportet by two video jockeys (Pixelpunx). Their visuals are related to the lyrics and live performed. Prisma gigs became a multimedia experience.

"You Name It," offers modern and song-oriented progressive-rock of enormous impact.

Scythe Of Orion return with brand spanking new CD 'Sun-Dial'

The Finnish metal band Scythe of Orion is proud to present its first LP "SUN-DIAL". It is the 3rd release of Scythe of Orion since the band was formed in 2006. Compared to
previous releases the sound and the graphic image of this album have been influenced by a greater number of professional people.

"SUN-DIAL" tells about the values of today's world. On the album there are songs about greed, the use of power and the state of nature. The lyrics have grown out of personal
anguish, but also of love. Musically "SUN-DIAL" is less progressive and more consistent than the previous "X-lives". Music is composed by Petri Lamminsaari and the lyrics are written by Anu Lamminsaari, Jani Lahnavik and Petri Lamminsaari.

PRESS:
'Scandinavian Scythe Of Orion's poetic name is, unlike a lot of acts, no cheap gimmick engineered to warrant attention for these guys have deservedly got the job done without it,
through honest intention...blissfully smooth melodic goth metal with feel that buries its hands deep in you and never bores. Awesome.' - Dave Attrill, MetalliVille, UK

'The band brings a powerful symphonic hardrock with a diverse spices within the sound. There's a folkmusic and pop mix with the metal in "Journey" and they make it work
very cool. Musical and dramatic moments fuels the energy. Lots of tempo changes and great melodies in all tracks.' - Andy, Flash Magazine

'Damn fine and very pompish, what I like with this band is that they use a delicate violin and piano parts in the sound to bring out the melodies' - Melodic.net

'I would like to hear more from this band as and when - an interesting listen and recommended to fans of the genre!' - Dave Smith, Ravenheart Music

French-Brazilian Guitar Virtuoso Marcelo Paganini Recording With Eumir Deodato, Gary Husband and Billy Sherwood

Paris, France – One of the most intriguing guitarists to emerge from South America, Marcelo Paganini, a French/Brazilian guitarist/composer/producer/multi-instrumentalist/ actor/ journalist, who is best known for his hit song "Blues de Ninguem" with Brazilian rock band Kamikaze, has resided in Paris since 1984, and through the years has garnered a number of impressive accomplishments to his credit. Marcelo, whose YouTube channel has had over 33,000 views, most recently created a new video for his 2007 single "Technodream", which is now available for viewing on YouTube.

"Marcelo Paganini always reminds me of Glauber Rocha: 'A guitar in hand and an idea in your head'." Arrigo Barnabe (Brazilian avant garde composer of "Clara Crocodilo")

"Marcelo Paganini is a truly unique musician. His style and vision are one of a kind and it is written into the DNA of his music. In a world of pastiche and imitation, Marcelo actually has something original to say which we should all sit up and take notice of." - Guy Michelmore (Award-Winning film composer, Marvel Films)

Marcelo Paganini first started performing back in 1975, and has worked with the likes of renowned guitarist Tiberio Nascimento, as well as legendary Belo Horizonte ensemble Tribo de Solos. In 1985 Marcelo made a guest appearance on the album 'Four French Forms' released on Luc Mariani's Delphes Records, which has become a cult classic amongst progressive rock fans. His one-man Midi band show 'Marcelo Paganini is the Band' was one of the first Brazilian live electronic acts back in 1986 and had influenced countless musicians and bands. He has his own studio on the countryside close to Le Mans, in Normandy, and leads the only Brazilian funk/rock band in France. Over the past 30 years Marcelo has written over 300 songs, and in 2004 he composed his first symphony titled 'Belo Horizonte'. From 2003 to the present Marcelo has been active in film making and has won the Oddball TV 69 Hours Film Challenge at the Portobello Film Festival in London in September 2011. In recent years Marcelo has formed the Marcelo Paganini Hendrix Tribute and has performed in France and the US; most recently at Billy Bob's Disneyland Paris in November 2011. "There is 'before' and 'after' Jimi Hendrix," says Marcelo. "He changed music forever. I felt that I had to pay tribute to him in a special way 40 years after his tragic death. To understand him better I bought a white left-handed Strat and turned it upside down, bought almost the same gear he had. The first gig ever of The Jimi Hendrix Experience was in Evreux in 1966, close to where I live in France. We played our first gig 50 miles from there one day after his birthday in November 2010, celebrating his life instead of his death. I also went to London and NYC, played at Cafe WHA and visited Electric LadyStudios. We are looking forward to playing more gigs to celebrate Jimi's 70th anniversary this year."

Marcelo Paganini is busy in his studio now recording an album for his friend Michael Molenda to be released later this year on the new label Guitar Player Magazine Records. Eumir Deodato, Gary Husband and Billy Sherwood kindly accepted Marcelo Paganini's invitation to join the project. Expect some more surprise guests among the best musicians in the industry. Marcelo's single from 2007 "Technodream", described as an intense, frantic, intricate piece of music with virtuosic guitar playing throughout, is about hit 30,000 plays on MySpace, creating a major buzz among the worldwide guitar community. "Every time I buy a new piece of gear I write a new song to celebrate," explains Marcelo. " 'Technodream' was made the day I bought my iMac and tried out Logic on it for the very first time. Then I uploaded it to MySpace and it became an instant hit there. To celebrate 5 years since it all begun, I uploaded an experimental video I made for 'Technodream' on YouTube, it will be screened at Portobello Film Festival next September."

Here's what is being said about Marcelo Paganini's "Technodream": www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwCfL0eFbag

"Marcelo Paganini represents what's coming in music. And by that I mean the future!! His guitar concepts are out of this world! Check out his 'Technodream' concept." - Eumir Deodato (legendary Jazz artist)

"Really good, so crazy and interesting." - Dinho Leme (drummer from legendary Brazilian psychedelic rock band  Os Mutantes)

"Marcelo Paganini, a guy with conceptions that smokes!" - Jan Dumee (former guitarist with Focus)

"Check out this cool track from my good friend Marcelo!" - Jack Hotop, Korg

Lastly Marcelo has this to impart to his fans and listeners, "Great music and musicians helped me get through the hard times in my life and inspired me to become who I am today. I hope someday young people who listen to my music will be inspired to express themselves in an original way too."

STUDIO DIARY
TRM vocalist Lynnette Shelley penned an account of the day's proceedings:

Brandon and I woke up around 6:30 AM that morning. We brewed up a batch of coffee, fed the kitten, and packed the car with all the equipment we'd be needing that day (two bass guitars, a moog, amplifier, Rheem organ, theremin, various pedals, effects, cables and other miscellaneous gear). Here is the kitten, Magnus, inspecting the moog before we packed it up.

We made good time to the studio, arriving about 11:15 AM after a drive of a little over 2 hours. Steve and Nick had driven up seperately as we all too much gear to fit into one car. We met Mike Potter, the engineer at Orion, soon after and started unloading the car and setting it up in the studio. Orion Studios consists of one big drum room, plus two isolation rooms, and the engineer's booth. It ended up taking Mike the better part of six hours to mic all of the instruments to his satisfaction (the drum kick alone took 1.5 hours(!). But it's better to take longer and get things done right than to a hurried job and realize the recording is compromised later on. Having known Mike for many years, I trusted him to do a great job with the recording and I was not disappointed.

This is not to say, however, that things went 100 percent smoothly. Brandon and I joke about "The Red Masque Curse" that always seems to strike during recording sessions. Pretty much every single album, from Victoria and the Haruspex onwards has had issues (technilogical or otherwise) that have plagued the recording process. Yesterday was no exception and started off when Nick's amplifier head, which worked perfectly fine before we brought it into the studio, decided to break down unexpectedly. First it buzzed and then when he went to put in a new cable into the input jack, the input jack fell into the amplifier. We needed a new amplifier head fast. Ironically, though we were surrounded by rehearsal studios and plenty of amps in the area, Mike could not get a hold of anybody he knew at any of them to see if we could borrow one. So Nick ran off to a music store and rented an amp head for the day so we could continue recording.

I was hoping that this would be "the issue" that we had to deal with and nothing else more expensive / catastrophic (probably the worst example of the Red Masque curse was from our previous studio album, Fossil Eyes, where our former Drummer Vonorn became seriously ill after being bitten by a deer tick at a photo shoot for the album and had to spend four months in the hospital. In addition, more than half the album tracks were lost / destroyed on a failed computer drive).  Mike continued setting up mics and testing them on the gear. Nick finally got back with his new amp head and then one of Mike's pre-amps stopped working suddenly and unexplainedly. It was also his best pre-amp. While pondering this new deveopment, Brandon walked by the engineering booth and the overhead light turned off on its own. Was it the Red Masque curse? Had it followed us to Baltimore? lol.

Thankfully, after spending several minutes fiddling with the wires on the pre-amp, Mike gave it a good smack, and the pre-amp turned back on. If it was the curse, it decided to let us off relatively unscathed. After six hours of setting up, the band was finally ready to start recording. Nick and Steve kept trying to keep themselves amped up throughout the day so that the eventual performance would have lots of energy and not get the "drag" that studio sessions can sometimes bring into a take. Having several albums under my belt now,  I was very familiar with the "hurry up and wait" aspect that is a hallmark of any group creative project, like album recordings. It's hard not to get tired waiting for hours on end and still try and bring fresh energy to the recording of a song, no matter how many times you may have had to play it before hand.

One benefit of working at Orion was that we were able to all play live together as opposed to recording piece by piece each of the songs. I went into the vocal isolation booth. I could not actually see anybody playing but Mike had given everyone headphones and a mixer so that we could adjust levels for each instrument coming in through our headsets. We ran through out six or seven takes of "Dark Salt Sea" for our first song. The first few times we ran through was so that Mike could adjust some sound levels further as we played. Then we ended up doing four takes of the song and using the best version. The next song, "The Minotaur" took less time as most of the sound kinks had been worked through with "Dark Salt Sea". It was a little after 11 PM when we finally wrapped up to go home.  Because of rainy / windy weather it, Brandon and I didn't get back from the studio until almost 2:30 AM.  We were exhausted but pretty pleased with the work accomplisehd so far. We will be heading back next week to do some overdubs on these previous two songs as well as working on the next few songs.

Kickstarter Campaign Ends THIS Friday.
All good things must come to an end. The Red Masque's Kickstarter Campaign, which directly helps the band raise funds for recording and mixing costs of their new album Mythalogue, ends THIS FRIDAY, April 27th at 6PM. Because of everyone's generosity, the band has received over 2000 dollars in donations so far. Thank you to everyone who donated. And for those who still plan on donating, please click here.

For those of you who are not familiar with Kickstarter, please check out their website at kickstarter.com to read more about this safe and secure fundraising option available to artists, musicians and entrepreneurs to help that fund their creative projects.

More information on the project: The Red Masque headed into the studio in April 2012 to create their fifth full-length album, Mythalogue. The group is recording at Orion Sound Studios in Baltimore with Mike Potter as an engineer. Acclaimed musician and producer Bob Drake is mixing the album. The album will include such tracks as "The Dark Salt Sea", "The Wendigo", "The Song for Icarus", "The Minotaur" and "The Labyrinth" (an improvisation), as well as some other audio surprises. Mythalogue is a thematic album using world mythology as inspiration.

Mr Gil reveal the first track from their new album

The fourth studio album by Mr Gil, a project led by Mirek Gil (ex-Collage, Believe), is scheduled for release on June, 4th in Europe and  July, 10th in USA (via MVD). The album entitled „I want you to get back home” brings the best, the most thoughtful compositions in the history of the band. Mirek Gil wrote wonderful, moving melodies. The words emphasize the atmosphere and tell a story of homecoming - of a travel which sometimes is not easy, but is still beautiful. The sound is perfectly complemented by the cello and piano.

Today, Mr Gil reveal the first track of the new album. You can listen to the song “Our Shoes” at THIS location.

Karol Wróblewski comments: “We all walk through life in the same shoes. We are the same in some way, we have the same goal: happiness. Life is a dance that does not allow you to stay in one place."

The beginning of Mr Gil dates back to 1998. It was then that Mirek Gil, the guitarist of the progressive group Collage, decided to present his artistic abilities on his first solo album “Alone”. He invited his fellow musicians to this project: Olaf Łapczyński on vocals, Krzysztof Palczewski on keyboards, Piotr Witkowski on bass and Vlodi Tafel on drums. The most outstanding track on that album was undoubtedly the song “Beggar”, which to this day is often performed during the concerts of groups led by Mirek Gil. After the success of “Alone”, the band chose to keep silent for the next 10 years. In 2009, the idea of reactivating the project was born. The band released “Skellig” in 2010, this time with Karol Wróblewski (Believe) on vocals. Also in 2010, the band released the album “Light and Sound”. And now the band return with their fourth studio album entitled „I Want You to Get Back Home”. As the band say: „You can't plan everything. And especially you cannot control what comes out of the human soul. Because it is the need for honesty, friendship and passion that grew into the idea of Mr. Gil's new album. Friends decided to meet again in the studio to complete their story..." And this story started with their album „Light & Sound”, when the band's new improved line-up crystalized:  Mirek Gil (guitars), Karol Wróblewski (vocals), Konrad Wantrych (piano, keys) and Paulina Druch (cello). Their album „I Want You to Get Back Home”, recorded in the same line-up, brings 9 brand new tracks. „It’s like coming back home, like a return to peace and warmth” says Mirek Gil. „In our new music, there is a lot of friendship and that was the main idea behind it. Is there anything more important, more beautiful than this? We have managed to learn more about each other. It is in each other that we have found that home”.

Akinesis Project is the creation of Italian duo Gabriele Caspani and Nando Mambretti.

In 2005 the band published their first disc, 'Reflections'. The album tells a story and is a reflection on beauty and love which received acclaim from the press. After numerous shows
and lifestyle changes the band return after six years and are ready to release their brand new album called 'The Passage'.

Two Side Moon Promotions are very excited to welcome to the family CHRIS KLIMECKY from Kirkland.

The Early Years
As the son of a professional symphonic violinist, Chris began his classical musical training early. But it was a chance encounter with Van Halen's 1984 at the age of 11 which triggered the start down a rock guitar path. It was quickly obvious that rock was where Chris belonged as middle school performances of songs like Ratt's "Round and Round" and Ozzy's "Crazy Train" made him well known in his hometown in northern Michigan. While continuing his formal music studies throughout the late 80's and early 90's, Chris was playing in rock bands as well as writing and recording music, most often with his brother on bass and cousin on drums, all accomplished musicians and all studying music in college at the time.

Jester's Crown
Chris sums up the story of his Michigan band, "In the mid-90's my brother, my cousin, and I decided to formalize, professionally record and promote our melodic prog rock band, Jester's Crown, with the addition of a keyboardist. Our first release was Above the Storm (1995).  Based in Ann Arbor, we toured from Madison, WI to Toronto, Canada, with most time spent performing between Detroit and Chicago.  An acoustic EP release, Where Daydreams Play (1996) reflected the many in-store acoustic appearances we were doing at the time and led into our final large scale album, Away (1998).  The band broke up roughly a year later after Away failed to gain significant traction."

Westward Ho!
Moving to Seattle at the turn of the millennium, Chris continued forward on his own, playing and recording all instruments himself in his home studio for the CD Marooned (2001). His first son was born in October of that year, so it was at this point that he focused on raising a young family and on his career as a producer in the videogames business, including leading the team which created the classic horror game "The Suffering."

Looking for new inspiration and other musicians to collaborate with, in 2007 Chris joined a small local group of musicians called Songwriters in Seattle, whose seemingly random few monthly meeting participants would discuss the current state of the music biz and play a few songs for one another. Sticking with it, bonding with like-minded musicians, and finding motivation in the monthly meeting "deadline," Chris began his return to writing, recording, and performing, albeit at a slow pace.  This eventually led to the release of twelve songs recorded between 2007-2009 with a variety of songwriting collaborations entitled Bankrupt Generation (2010).

A Return to Musical Focus
Taking a break from the videogame industry in late 2010 to focus on musical pursuits, Chris officially took over Songwriters in Seattle (now a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with over 500 members and 10 events each month) and at home accomplished a major studio upgrade. These two actions set the trajectory for an explosion of music in 2011-2012, most notably the release of This Journey (2012). "This Journey is the realization of a rock sound I've had in my head the last 20 years!" Chris says, "It is focused, consistent, dynamic, produced and performed to the best of my ability, and represents a vision I am truly proud of." With a professional graphic designer re-inventing Chris's visual presentation as well, This Journey is a spectacular package that Chris hopes will compete and be recognized on a whole new level.

Influences
Chris has a variety of guitar-oriented rock inspirations and influences with a mix of prog rock, classic rock, hard rock, and modern pop rock.  Among his favorite bands are Foo Fighters, Switchfoot, Green Day, Collective Soul, Staind, Tonic, Fuel, Breaking Benjamin, Rush, Yes, Genesis, Van Halen, Ozzy Osbourne, Steve Vai, and Joe Satriani.

Chris currently resides in Kirkland, Washington with his wife and two children.

Progressive Rock & Progressive Metal - E-Zine

Two Side Moon Promotions are very excited to welcome to the family EFFLORESCE from Nurnberg.

With the release of their Shades of Fate-EP in late 2009, the five-piece from Nuremberg/Germany laid the foundation to establish a signature sound, boasting heavy guitars, atmospheric mellotron sounds and complex rhythmic patterns. Drawing influences from modern progressive sounds, classic metal and even the psychedelic vibe of 70's prog, the band openly displays their musical roots while still maintaining a style of their own.

Singer Nicki's stunning range comprises crystal clear vocals as well as raw death metal growls; however, she also contributes flute sounds to the songs' more mellow moments. The band's songs express emotions and mirror their technical capabilities without sacrificing musicality or listenability. Effloresce are also a committed live band and manage to capture their songs' atmosphere, energy and depth just as much in front of audiences as in the studio.

Speaking of which, Effloresce released their first full-length album Coma Ghosts in February 2012, which was mixed and mastered by renowned Swedish metal legend Dan Swanö and received enthusiastic reviews by both the metal and the prog community.

With the release of their first EP Shades of Fate in late 2009, the female-fronted five-piece from Nuremberg/Germany laid the foundation for their distinctive sound, drawing from influences like Dream Theater, Opeth, Epica and Porcupine Tree as well as '70s prog. February 10, 2012, will now see the release of the band's debut album Coma Ghosts. „There's great playing, very good song writing, and a hell of a vocalist with some impressive chops." (www.billsprogblog.com)

For Coma Ghosts, Effloresce worked with Swedish producer legend Dan Swanö to shape an epic sound for their signature elements like intense rhythm work, memorable melodies, organ, flute, and vocalist Nicki's stunning range from crystal clear vocals to raw death metal growls. Comments guitarist Dave Mola: "Working with the producer of groundbreaking albums like Opeth's Morningrise was a true honor for us and we couldn't be happier with the results!" „Fans of Dream Theater, Opeth, early Queensryche and Fates Warning should really give this band a listen." (Rating – 87/100) (www.femmemetal.net)

Comprised of six tracks totaling 54 minutes, Coma Ghosts once again shows the band's ability to write complex yet catchy material. The tracks range from more mellow songs like the ballad Swimming through Deserts to the more straight -forward metal of Pavement Canvas, right up to their most epic and complex song yet, the 16 minute closing track Shuteye Wanderer. Singer Nicki takes the listener on a nightmarish trip through the bleakest corners of human existence, though there is always a little spark of hope that the soul of each of the songs' protagonists is not lost (yet).

Band Line Up:
Nicki - Vocals, Growls, Flutes, Percussion
Dave - Guitars, Mellotrons
Tim - Guitars

Tobi - Drums
