Hawkwind Legend Nik Turner Releases New Album Space Fusion Odyssey Feat. Members of The Doors, Gong, Soft Machine, Amon Düül II and Others!

Featuring guest appearances by Billy Cobham, Robby Krieger, Steve Hillage, Gilli Smyth, John Etheridge, John Weinzierl and others!

Los Angeles - Following the release in 2013 of the most acclaimed album of his solo career, Space Gypsy, Nik Turner is pleased to announced the release of the follow up album Space Fusion Odyssey, out now on Cleopatra Records.

Space Fusion Odyssey is without a doubt the most musically ambitious undertaking Turner has ever attempted, stretching his already prodigious saxophone and flute playing skills to create instrumental soundscapes that entrance, confound, and stimulate all at the same time. As with many of his previous releases, Turner has surrounded himself with an incredible crew of fellow musicians who help him bring his vision to life. Dubbed the Interplanetary Arkestra (hat tip to Sun Ra), the group includes some of the most gifted and groundbreaking musicians of his generation such as legendary jazz drummer Billy Cobham, Doors' guitarist Robby Krieger, Steve Hillage & Gilli Smyth of Gong, Soft Machine's John Etheridge, Amon Düül II founder John Weinzierl and many more! Space Fusion Odyssey is set to land in July of this year courtesy of Purple Pyramid Records.

The album sees Turner depart on a whole new kind of spaceship, a musical project that finally frees him from the gravitational pull of traditional rock music orbits and launches into new stratospheres of jazz, blues, fusion, and other eclectic styles heretofore unknown to man.

Check out the video for "Hypernova" featuring some truly mind blowing guitar work from both Robby Krieger and Megadeth's Chris Poland: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwWnFbgf2Ag

Space Fusion Odyssey tracks:
1. Adjust The Future
2. Hyernova
3. Spiritual Machines
4. Pulsar
5. An Elliptical Galaxy
6. A Beautiful Vision in Science Forgotten
7. We Came in Peace
8. Interstellar Clouds
9. Spiritual Machines Chapter 2
10. Random Acts

Following the albums release, later in the year The Spirit Of Hawkwind 1969-1976 will be published, the definitive biography of Hawkwind's early years as told through the eyes of Nik Turner and written by music historian Dave Thompson. The hardcover book contains over 250 pages of rare and unseen photos as well as a comprehensive discography - a feast for Hawkwind fans everywhere.

SWALLOW THE SUN posts new lyric video for "Pray for the Winds to Come"

SWALLOW THE SUN just posted a brand new lyric video for their song "Pray for the Winds to Come", taken from the second part of their upcoming triple album!

Check out the video now at: https://youtu.be/3knypJ_DNGI

Songs from the North I, II & III will be released on November 13, 2015 via Century Media Records.

Incorporating dark menace and gradations of death, black and funeral doom, each of the three albums of Songs from the North I, II & III embodies the band's unofficial band motto, "Gloom, Beauty & Despair"

Songs from the North I continues in the vein of the albums before it - first-rate death-doom in the typical style of SWALLOW THE SUN.

Songs from the North II is a beautiful, acoustic foray representing the group's ability to unplug and revel in the darkness.

Songs from the North III is the most extreme album, a complete ride into SWALLOW THE SUN's most horrific abyss of finely-crafted, conscience-crushing funeral doom.

In support of the new album(s), SWALLOW THE SUN will embark on a European headline tour for November/December 2015 accompanied by fellow countrymen Wolfheart and further support bands that will be announced soon. See below for the complete list of dates!

Pain of Salvation - Announce live shows, new album progress and other releases!

Swedish progressive rock innovators Pain of Salvation have kept busy working on various new recording projects ever since their latest release, the semi-acoustic album "Falling Home" from January 2015. Having just returned from some successful shows in Russia, Pain of Salvation have now also announced a next string of shows in The Netherlands and Italy:

Pain of Salvation - Live 2015:

Oct. 30, 2015 NL - Apeldoorn @ Gigant
Oct. 31, 2015 NL - Amstelveen @ P60
Dec. 12, 2015 IT - Rome @ Crossroads Live Club
Dec. 13, 2015 IT - Milano @ Circolo Magnolia
More dates to come...

Additionally, following up on their latest "Road Salt" releases, Pain of Salvation have now started to work on material for their next studio album effort, a concept album that goes back to the band's harder and heavier roots of the early 2000's. Pain of Salvation's Daniel Gildenlöw has checked in with a brief status report on the band's current activities:

"We have a few gigs on the horizon, but in all honesty, our true focus is on the next studio album right now. Ragnar and I truly enjoy writing music together, and have that sort of completing-each-other's-sentences dynamics to our writing that I have only found in very few people over the years. We have very creative writing sessions, and we can't wait for the fans to hear the new material! You'll see a hungry and strong Pain of Salvation, confidently returning to a harder and heavier form, musically. Still, as always, without losing the intimacy and originality that has been the trademark of the band ever since the first album. Anyone who has witnessed on stage what today's Pain of Salvation are capable of, will understand how much I am looking forward to show them what we can do in a studio."

At the same time as new material is being elaborated, Pain of Salvation are also wrapping up work on some special live and DVD recordings, which will see the light of day in 2016. Look forward to a busy year for Pain of Salvation and more info about the upcoming release/s will be communicated soon...

UFO Guitar Legend Vinnie Moore to Release New CD “Aerial Visions”

NYC - The long awaited new album from legendary guitarist Vinnie Moore, will be released on October 23 on Mind's Eye Music. Titled "Aerial Visions", Vinnie's 8th solo album features drummer Richie Monica (Tantric, Poppa Chubby), and bassists Dave LaRue (Steve Morse Band, Flying Colors, The Dregs), Rob DeLuca (UFO, Sebastian Bach), Dorian Heartsong (Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Experience) and Elliott Dean Rubinson (Uli Jon Roth, MSG).

"Everything that Moore throws himself into features his astounding 6-string abilities. Far from being a 'mere shredder', Moore combines insane technique with touch, taste, and stylistic influences that include Van Halen, Jeff Beck, Duane Allman, Larry Carlton, and many other diverse talents. He can play sweep-picked arpeggios with a bluesy feel or play blues licks at neo-classical speeds, never sacrificing tone, time,or intonation. It's a unique and musical skill set." – Matt Blackett, Guitar Player Magazine

Vinnie has released seven critically acclaimed solo albums; five albums and one DVD as a member of rock royalty legends UFO; and one album with band Red Zone Rider. His solo and UFO releases as well as LIVE performances have amassed rave reviews all around the globe from both fans and music press, inspiring guitarists worldwide and launching him into aerial guitar superhero distinction!

Says Vinnie, "I have been touring all over the world pretty nonstop for the past 12 years. I started this record about two years ago and have been working on it while at home. I'm totally jacked up about getting it out there for others to hear as well as playing these songs LIVE. Two of the songs on 'Aerial' were written as instrumentals but were included on a UFO record with vocals. I have also done a cover of ZZ Top's 'La Grange' which I have always thought is one of the coolest songs ever. I have done ZZ covers onstage a lot."

Vinnie has toured several times all over Europe, UK, Scandanvia, Brazil, and the USA, as well as performing in India, Korea, Mexico, Russia, and Canada. The UFO "A Conspiracy of Stars" tour will continue in Europe on October 21, and will include nine shows in December as opening act for Judas Priest on their Redeemer of Souls tour.

"Eyes closed in concentration, his fingers dancing, he solos like a man possessed. Ritchie Blackmore used to be like this. Vinnie is that good!" – Neil Jeffries, Classic Rock Magazine, England

Says Vinnie, "With my solo records I can cover a lot more territory stylistically. I enjoy this freedom to be able to follow my muse wherever it leads. All of my influences are in there, from Rock to Blues to Be-Bop to Funk. I am into so many different styles of music that I can't help myself, I'm basically a slave to it all and so there are inspirations from everywhere. Having said that, being a songwriter is the most important thing to me. I try to use my inspiration to create a mood and take the listener on a little journey to wherever."

Deadline Records to Release Japanese Metal Legends SABER TIGER “Best Of” Album On Oct. 2, 2015

Los Angeles - On October 2nd, 2015 Deadline/Cleopatra Records will release worldwide the first-ever Greatest Hits package from Northern Japan's own Saber Tiger.

Sapporo, Japan's Saber Tiger was formed in 1981 by guitarist Akihito Kinoshita. After releasing three albums through an independent record label, Kinoshita eventually signed a major label contract withTokuma Japan Communications. Saber Tiger's 1997 major label debut album, Project One, thrust the band to the front of the flourishing Japanese metal scene. The album featured several famous guest musicians; vocalist Ron Keel (ex-Steeler and Keel), bassist Naoto Shibata (Anthem), and drummer Hirotsugu Honma (ex-Ezo and Loudness).

Saber Tiger then went on to record and release three hit albums (as well as a few others) while officially reformed with Takenori Shimoyama on vocals, Tomohiro Sanpei on bass, and Yoshio Isoda on drums.

Working together they produced two more albums, Paragraph 3 and Brain Drain. In 2001, Saber Tiger made their first release under their new major label VAP, naming the album simply Saber Tiger. With VAP they continued on to release F.U.S.E., The History of the New World -凶獣伝説- and the single "Eternal Loop". Paragraph 3 and The History of the New World -凶獣伝説- were re-recorded compilations of the bands signature songs, with the new line-up and a heavier, more driven sound. They also released a live album named Live 2002 Nostalgia, on both CD and DVD.

In 2002, due to different musical ideas and goals, Shimoyama left the band to pursue his own ambitions in the heavy metal music scene. He formed the band Double Dealer, with Norifumi Shima. They signed a European-wide record contract with NTS/Limb Music, traveling through Europe on a tour with Symphony X.

After Shimoyama's departure, Saber Tiger continued to write and record new music, producing the album Indignation in 2005, with vocalist Katsuto Suzuki.

In 2010, Saber Tiger announced the reunion with former members Takenori Shimoyama (vocals), Yasuharu "Machine" Tanaka (guitar) and Tomohiro Sampei (bass), and with Yasuhiro Mizuno as their new drummer. Eventually Takanobu Kimoto (ex-Double Dealer and Concerto Moon) replaced Sampei on bass. They began working on a new album at a studio in their hometown of Sapporo. The album Decisive was released on August 3, 2011, and was followed by a tour. On May 26, 2013, they performed at the Pure Rock Japan Live 2013 at Club Citta, alongside NoGoD, Galneryus and Onmyo-Za.

In 2015, a mutual friend of the band introduced them to Cleopatra Records VP/General Manager Tim Yasui, who was seeking to add more Japanese hard rock, punk and metal bands to the label's Deadline Records imprint. In honor of Saber Tiger's 35th Anniversary, a deal was struck to create the band's first-ever "Greatest Hits" package, culling tracks from 3 of the band's best albums: Messiah Complex (2012), Decisive (2011) and Paragraph IV (2011).

Current Saber Tiger frontman Takenori Shimoyama quotes, "We're so glad to be able to finally have a U.S. record deal and hope that the sounds of SABER TIGER reverberate across the land! We're very glad to be able to conduct activities in the US and we hope to make the sounds."

Audio Fidelity To Release Tangerine Dream “Thief” Original Motion Picture Soundtrack On 180g Vinyl

"An impressive soundtrack...a signature film score and certainly one of the best electronic scores of the 80's."

Camarillo, CA – Marshall Blonstein's Audio Fidelity will be releasing Tangerine Dream's Theif OST on 180g vinyl in November 2015. Tangerine Dream is among the most successful electronic groups of all time. The band was chosen by Michael Mann to write and produce the original score for Thief, his 1981 directorial debut. Tangerine Dream added their patented pulses, blips and whooshes to the film's highly stylized visual scenes. Up to this time, no one had ever used a sequencer for a neo-noir film...this score is one of the most unusual of its kind for American cinema.

Rather than a full orchestral score, Tangerine Dream's techno-based score uses synthesizer, percussion and electric guitar making for a fascinating and exciting soundtrack. Tracks like "Dr. Destructo" have a fast-paced percussion tempo. An engaging melody on "Beach Theme" makes it one of the album's most familiar and popular tracks, while "Trap Feeling" has a delicacy that compares favorably to Brian Eno's Music for Films.

There were two versions of the album only the US release included "Confrontation" an actual rock song of guitars, bass and drums written by Craig Safan. Band member, Edgar Froese stated at the time,"It was a pleasure working on the film because the exotic and shifting moods of Thief were perfectly suited to the kind of music we played...and yet we knew the music would also stand on its own."

The soundtrack and the movie are inseparable. The music and movie have grown beyond cult classic status becoming an important part of the collected works of Tangerine Dream and Mann.

Tracks:
SIDE ONE
1. Beach Theme
2. Dr. Destructo
3. Diamond Diary
4. Burning Bar

SIDE TWO
1. Scrap Yard
2. Trap Feeling
3. Igneous
4. Confrontation

Personnel
Edgar Froese– keyboards, electronic equipment, guitar
Christopher Franke– synthesizers, electronic equipment, electronic percussion
Johannes Schmoelling– keyboards, electronic equipment
Craig Safan– composed and performed "Confrontation"

Music Legends Magma Release Iconic 1975 Live Album “Magma Live Hhaï” on Limited Edition Vinyl!

Paris, France - Completing the series of vinyl reissues, French music legends Magma will be issuing their iconic 1975 live album Magma Live Hhaï on limited edition vinyl. This double LP was released by Jazz Village Records on October 2, 2015.

Magma has joined up with Jazz Village to celebrate its 45th anniversary with an impressive series of new and classic releases. A series of new and classic Magma titles has been scheduled for release every month from September 2014 to November 2015. A legendary French group if ever there was one, Magma has continued to influence the course of contemporary music since their debut in 1969.

After the departure in autumn of 1974 of Jannick TOP and most of the other members of the band, MAGMA rose phoenix-like from the ashes with a new, hot, line-up which saw the musical opportunity lying before it. After long rehearsals Christian VANDER realized that he had yet another exceptional groupand the decision was taken to record the first MAGMA live album. The recording, made in June 1975 at the Taverne de l'Olympia, perfectly demonstrates the incredible impact made by MAGMA. Absolutely dedicated to the music of Christian VANDER, who by that time had reached the summit of his art, the band plays as if it were one man and sweeps all before it in its triumphant passage. Whether it was a new arrangement of any of the old pieces (KOHNTARK, KOBAIA, MEKANIK) or a previously-unheard piece (HHAI, LIHNS), the sound of MAGMA has never been heard more powerfully as on this incredible recording. Although it remains difficult to point to any one performance as being outstanding, it would nevertheless be difficult not to react to the mind-blowing performance by Didier Lockwood, whose violin playing contributes so greatly to the profound originality of this magnificent double-album.

Christian VANDER drums, vocals - Klaus BLASQUIZ vocals - Stella VANDER vocals - Bernard PAGANOTTI bass - Gabriel FEDEROW guitar - Didier LOCKWOOD violin - Benoit WIDEMANN keyboards - Jean-Pol ASSELINE keyboards

ZUND 1:
1 - KOHNTARK part 1
2 - KOHNTARK part 2

ZUND 2:
1 - HHAI
2 - KOBAH
3 - LIHNS
5 - MEKANIK ZAIN

Recorded live between June 1 & 5, 1975 at la TAVERNE DE L'OLYMPIA, Paris  by Frank OWENS. Mixed at studio Le Chateau by George Chkiantz

Brooklyn, NY/Studio City, CA - Lightyear Entertainment is pleased to announce the formation of a new music label, Silver Sleeve Records.

Silver Sleeve will be helmed by Lightyear VP and former Columbia Records A&R man Sky Spooner. It will focus on indie alt/rock bands, alt/country bands and active rock bands, in particular from (but not limited to) the vibrant Brooklyn music scene.

"Lightyear has always been eclectic in its releases, working in a variety of genres including rock, pop, r&b, hip-hop, reggae, world music, and jazz. Silver Sleeve is going to be different. We will have a distinct label identity. We will be looking for Hard/Fast/Loud/Punk/Psych/Surf/Metal music from stunning emerging artists all over the globe," said Silver Sleeve President Sky Spooner.

The first band signed to the new label is The Giraffes. From 1996 to 2015, the Brooklyn-based Giraffes have shredded, burned, and leveled every audience from their Brooklyn hometown to the Sunset Strip, and back again. Lead singer Aaron Lazar and guitar wizard Damien Paris form the focus of the band supported by the locomotive rhythm section of maniac drummer Andrew Totolos and latest Giraffe, Josh Taggart on bass.

The first release of the new album from The Giraffes, Usury, will be released digitally worldwide through Caroline/Universal Music Group on October 2, 2015. The CD and vinyl LP will be released January 29, 2016. The LP will be clear, audiophile vinyl, with an included download card, and of course packaged with a silver sleeve.

Polish grunge rock band Cochise release today their new studio album entitled "The Sun Also Rises for Unicorns" (release date in North America: 13th November). The follow-up to the "118" album is their fourth full-length album. All guitars, bass and drum parts were recorded in just one take at The Rolling Tapes studio. All vocals were recorded at Nagrywatornia Studio in their hometown Bialystok.

Today, the band reveal the second video clip filmed to the title track "The Sun Also Rises for Unicorns". Check it out at THIS location.

Paweł, lead singer of the band, says "The album is full of questions, sadness, anxiety and nostalgia. There is also strength, rebellion, joy, love and pride. There are some utopian-romantic visions of the world. This is the album about unique individuals, sensitive and full of passion but often apathetic, amoral, introverted and withdrawn." Musically, "The Sun Also Rises for unicorns" is a continuation of what the band recorded so far. "We hope, this album is a step forward, a natural development for the band" says Wojtek, Cochise's guitarist.

Telergy and an interview with multi-instrumentalist Robert McClung

Telergy, a project founded by multi-instrumentalist Robert McClung released earlier this year their third studio album. As it was case with the previous two records, an amazing line-up of guest musicians contributed to "Hypatia," and about this all and more, Robert talked with us.car

"Hypatia" is out for some time now and I have to say that this album has gathered up pretty good coverage, what really intrigued me. Are you satisfied how this turned out? Please tell us more about creating, as well as recording process of "Hypatia".

I'm very satisfied. It definitely feels like I've reached a new high in my abilities as a writer and producer. And to have the respect and admiration of my peers and influences who now work with me in Telergy is very exiting.

Each album starts with the story. I spend months reading and doing research on the subject. Then I begin to form ideas on how the music will best portray the different aspects of the story.

The recording process for Telergy albums is very long and cumbersome. It's not like I can get forty musicians in a studio at the same time and just let them rip. I spend over a year just writing and arranging all the basic tracks before I start sending sheet music and audio files out to all the players. From there local musicians will come to my home studio to record their parts. People who live abroad will record their parts in their own studios, or studios near them, and send audio files back to me. Then it's my job to assemble everything and make it cohesive. It's a giant puzzle, or as one person described it, musical Lego blocks.

I have an opinion that "Hypatia" is heavier than anything you've put out to date. Much more experimentation, this album brings out probably the most symphonic sound you could pull out yourselves. Do you agree?

Yes, definitely. I tried to make the best of all the amazing people I have available to me. Making sure that the orchestral instruments were highlighted just as much as the rock instruments. I wanted more dynamics. The rock riffs heavier, the orchestral sections more spacious and lush, and each intertwined in a smooth way. There was also the opportunity to play with bits of jazz and electronica. that's was fun. Always cool to try new things.

If you compare the new album and previous two, where do these recordings stand in your opinion?

I love all the albums, they are like my children. I am proud of every one. Each has it's own unique color and feel. Certainly there is development over time, as with any artist. The first Pink Floyd albums sound drastically different from where they ended up later on in their careers. Same with Led Zeppelin or Yes. As an artist you grow and feel the need to experiment with new things over time. Never changing would be boring.

I think the production quality from the first to the second album jumped up significantly, as I learned the craft better and honed in on the sounds I was shooting for. I think the new album has the best mix of dynamics, and the one before had some cool vocal sections. Each different, but enjoyable in it's own way.

Basically, the music you play is described simple as symphonic prog. This looks kinda "multicolored" and I'm interested to know about your influences.

I grew up on the classic rock of the 70's. The more progressive artists of that era were the ones that seam to capture my attention the most. Pink Floyd, Yes, Kansas, Rush, etc. As a teenager in the late 80's, early 90's I was drawn into the heavy metal scene. And yet again it was the more progressive artist within the genre that sparked my interest. Queensryche, Dream theater, Savatage, Magellan, etc.

I'm also very inspired by Broadway musicals. I love Andrew Lloyd Webber and Gilbert and Sullivan. I spent many years playing in theater pit orchestras. It was great training as a developing composer. Clearly the spoken word acting portions of Telergy come from this influence. Over the years some critics have bashed these segments as being "pompously theatrical" and "Disney-esque". I actually take those critiques as a compliment, because that's exactly what what I was shooting for. If someone can't look beyond the stereotypical boundaries of how normal rock music is presented, that's their problem, not mine. I'm not going to sacrifice my artistic vision just because some critic is too closed minded to accept a new way of presenting something.

I've mentioned above that "Hypatia" feels multicolored. Do you think that it could be said that the record is also "multicultural," considering the story and the elements it's built of?

Sure. There are people from all over the world on the album. Allot of different musical and cultural backgrounds being mixed together. The story is based in Egypt, but it was at the time of Roman occupation. And it was the cultural clashes of different religious groups that lead to Hypatia's demise. So yes, I do hope that tension comes through in the music.

You impart into your music a variety of instruments that give you a very eclectic feeling. Is it hard to arrange and structure all the instruments in a song? Describe the creation process of a Telergy song.

Yes, sometimes it is hard. Getting so many sounds to blend smoothly is a delicate balancing act. I start each piece thinking about the feelings or emotions of the scene I'm trying to portray. I then pick what instruments I feel would best represent that feeling. Once a rhythm or melody has been established I just start to break out from that point and bring in other instruments I feel push the story along and allow the listener to visualize the events that are being portrayed, through the notes themselves.

What is it like to make an album for Telergy? How much time do you set aside for the music and how long does it take to build a concept and make a story out of it? Are these two separate parts of one big process?

Each album takes about two years from start to finish. I have a full time job as a music teacher, so I must find the time for Telergy around that. Mostly nights, weekends and school vacations. I always have the basic story outline in place before I start the music. Which takes a couple months. Once that is done I know how many musical pieces there will be and what they need to represent.

Telergy is a project, and that means that due to many obvious reasons you don't perform live. Have you ever thought of gathering a line-up and performing live?

I get asked that question very often. I would love to find a way to have Telergy performed live. But to do so would require dozens of musicians, weeks of rehearsals, a very large hall and massive amounts of production. All of which would cost a fortune. As much as I might like to see it happen I just don't have the budget to take it to that level. Telergy is very grandiose and it's just not the kind of thing that's going to work in a small club with a handful of people. So until a financial backer comes along who wants to sink some money into the operation, the odds of it happening are highly unlikely.

Before forming Telergy, have you been involved with any other projects or bands?

Yes, many. I have toured and recorded with a very long list of people and recorded many albums with them and as a solo artist. You can see the full list on my personal website (robertmcclung.net). The one that some people might recognize is I had a short stint as the fill-in touring guitarist for the Irish soul band The Commitments. It was great honor, and the handful of shows I played with them certainly exposed me to the larger world of the music industry outside my local scene.

What comes next? Should we expect something new from Telergy in the near future?

There will definitely be something at some point, but I can't speculate as to when right now. I'm just starting to research a few different story ideas. Once I have pinpointed what the story is it's usually a two year process to pull it together. But I'm not going to rush it. It will be done whenever it is ready. I want whatever it is to be the best it can be.
