"Cinema" Was Released As a Digital Single on October 6th
October 11th, 2012, Helsinki, Finland – On October 6th, Corvus Stone released the second single from their upcoming album. The song is an instrumental called "Cinema." Anyone who purchases the digital single (or the first single, "Ice King") will get the price taken off the purchase price of the upcoming full album, making it a great, no risk way to sample new music from this group.
While Corvus Stone is technically a new project, the members of the group are anything but newcomers to the music world. Guitarist Colin Tench is known for his work in BunChakeze, Road to Avalon (featuring former Flower Kings drummer Zoltan Csörsz Jr.) and the Colin Tench Project. Petri Lemmy Lindström (bass) plays in Progeland and Saturn Twilight and was formerly in Lyijykomppania. Keyboardist Pasi Koivu has performed as a solo artist and with Psychedelic Eye. For the single of "Ice King," the group was joined by Blake Carpenter of Road to Avalon and Minstrel's Ghost (vocals) and Robert Wolff (ex Raven and Micah) on drums.
In the upcoming issue of Music Street Journal, Diane Hill says this of "Cinema:" "The guitar is so beautiful and the song has an ethereal quality to it. Parts of this number remind me of Pink Floyd. Just when I thought I had it figured out, the chords changed and took me to a whole new unexpected place. Even when the heavier guitar bits came into play, it was still so soothing and easy to listen to. I found myself disappointed when it ended and I had to start over and listen to it again!" Zachary Nathanson said this in Music From The Other Side of the Room, "Cinema is sort of the calm after the storm with its acoustic/electric gentle lukewarm crisp set with guitar, and Pasi's keyboard taking over as if he's paying tribute to PFM's early days." He also said, "Tench's blend of the Floyd's music carries on like carrying the Olympic torch to flame into the night and carrying the spirit of the music like no other." At Examiner.com Jordan Blum says the song "is a wonderfully tranquil and warm instrumental. Seeing as how the group cites Riverside, Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree, Camel, and ELP, among others, as influences, it makes sense that the track oozes with psychedelic timbres, affective melodies, and serene focus. Truthfully, the way the guitar work cascade over delicate percussion, rich arpeggios, and intriguing keyboard soundscapes makes the piece feel eerily close to a lost track from 'The Division Bell,' which isn't to say it isn't original. Rather, it perfectly captures the spirit of their inspirations. It's quite easy to get lost in the musical magic." He also said, "Corvus Stone is quickly becoming a group to watch for."
