Tristan Gauthier was born in Britanny, France. He grew up on the atlantic coast near Bordeaux to finally end up living in Paris. Coming from a family background full of love but complicated (money problems, divorces) Tristan was a shy child who spent most of his time in his dreams. He escaped his mind through his parents tapes and vinyls: The Beatles and the Rolling Stones for rock'n'roll, Bob Marley and Peter Tosh for reggae music, Gainsbourg for the french touch and Mozart for classical. He started learning piano, and in the middle of the grunge years and other exciting movements from the 90s, he started playing guitar. He wore the Cobain hairdo and write his first songs inspired by the Sex Pistols documentary "Rock'n'Roll Swindle ».
Then came an eventful journey through his 20s with plenty of little odd jobs and some heavy, punk, rock, blues, folk bands and an arrival in Paris. On the dawn of his 30s, Tristan now leads a very active life and has decided to focus on his priorities: la Rock School de Paris (a music school he created) as well as working on his own songs. Encouraged by his entourage he put on a crowdfunding campaign in the hope of raising enough money to book a record session. The goal was reached in only 10 days which made Tristan able to record in the SOYUZ studio in Paris (Mumford & Sons) with sound engineer Arnaud Bascuñana (Deportivo).
Right after a solo concert series in a small theater in Montmartre, in Tunisia and opening for the irish artist Liam O Maonlai with whom he covers a Bob Dylan song, Tristan contacted a drummer to join him in the studio. He took his Fender Jaguar out of the cupboard and what was about to be an intimistic folk project turned into something more positive & rock than expected.
SYNOPSIS
« The Sunny Side Of The Street » is the musical testimony of an eventful 20s lived by Tristan Gauthier. Inspired by a visceral desire to go out from the morosity of his odd-jobs while living on the french atlantic coast, then a precarious existence when moving to Paris as well as a complicated family context, Tristan sings, sometimes screams (« Dream »), optimism, determination and hope facing all these ordeals.
All of this then brings lightness throughout the EP and invites to go on a road trip on « Somewhere Nowhere », to sing life on « Heart Beats » and, on the eponymous song which was written on the dawn of a more peaceful 30s, to sail towards a more shiny future.
