Esquire Featuring Nikki Squire Release New Album “Esquire III - No Spare Planet”

London, UK - Much to the excitement of prog fans worldwide, Esquire featuring Nikki Squire, the first wife of Chris Squire from YES, has released their first new album in several years! On their new release "No Spare Planet", the band has championed a unique and sophisticated sound and they have straddled traditional music boundaries and essentially unleashed an innovative style of progressive rock that is varied, accessible and modern.

Esquire is now set to extend their musical legacy with this 3rd studio album. Comprising of nine unreleased songs, the last that Nikki Squire and Nigel McLaren wrote together before Nigel's untimely passing in 2015.

Says Nikki, "Nigel and I started work on these songs a few years ago. Our intention was to create an album that although still 'progressive', would bring a modern and fresh outlook and move forward to build a meaningful album…a solid basis that was to become 'Esquire 111 – No Spare Planet'. Nigel my co- writer suddenly passed away in 2015, just as we were getting ready to mix and master our music. Many things that happened after this led me to complete the album alone, which has now become a Tribute to Nigel McLaren."

Fronted by Nikki Squire, Esquire is a British rock band noted for their progressive, art, and symphonic style of rock music. Formed in 1982, Esquire released two studio albums - the self-titled "Esquire" in 1987, written and produced by Nikki Squire, Nigel McLaren & Esquire, and then a follow-up album "Coming Home" in 1997. Chris Squire and Mark Wallis produced the mixes, YES drummer Alan White, YES producer Trevor Horn and Chris and Nikki's eldest daughter, Carmen Squire and Charles Olins, all worked on the band's debut album. The second album, "Coming Home", was written by Nikki Squire and Nigel McLaren; it also included Danny Isaacs on guitar on three tracks and Tony Matteucci on drums. Also WINGS Denny Laine on backing vocals, to name but a few...

Now, completing the Esquire trilogy after their last album, "Esquire III - No Spare Planet" brings the band right up to date in 2016!

wedish Keyboard Legend Pär Lindh Launches New Ensemble “TRITON”: The NICE Legacy of ELP & PLP

Sweden – Swedish keyboard legend Pär Lindh is launching his new band "TRITON": The NICE Legacy of ELP & PLP. The new ensemble was created to honor the legacy of The Nice, Emerson, Lake & Palmer and the Pär Lindh Project.

Says Pär, "My band Pär Lindh Project or PLP in short was struck by the passing of our beloved singer Magdalena Hagberg in 2007. She died from cancer and this was a terrible blow to the band from which PLP could never really recover.

"Thus we have a situation today of three great keyboard driven bands that are no more. The Nice, ELP and PLP. In 1995 I played with Lee Jackson and Brian Davidson and we were going to form The New Nice but due to lack of financial backing it didn't happen.

"To keep the legacy of these three unique bands alive I have decided to begin touring under the name TRITON and the concept The Nice Legacy of PLP & ELP. The idea is that because all three above bands no longer exist we want to keep their legacy going as there is just an tremendous amount of extraordinary musical material to perform in concert. The musical legacy of three great bands all in one show!"

Along with Pär on keyboards and synthesizers, the band features Göran Holmberg on Bass, and Putte Saavedra on drums. Saavedra was along with Pär in starting the progressive wave in 1991 organizing the perhaps first ever progressive rock festival in Sweden. Incidentally, all  members of TRITON performed at this festival, which was then followed by Progfest 93 in Los Angeles USA where Pär also performed and the rest is history as they say.

Göran Holmberg and Putte Saavedra comes from the band MANTICORE which performed the music of YES, Genesis and when Pär was a short time member 1989-1991 even ELP covers. MANTICORE has also released an album with their own music called "Time to Fly" in the mid nineties.

Watch Triton performing "Hoedown": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTazGthnVuE

For those in the progressive rock community Pär Lindh is considered a keyboard wizard – so much so that he was chosen to play keys for the reunion of the legendary Nice (a prestigious position only held by keyboard visionary Keith Emerson) With the release of several highly acclaimed albums, the Pär Lindh Project band has garnered worldwide acclaim. After original lead vocalist Magdalena Hagberg sadly passed away in 2007, and a subsequent hiatus by the band, Pär felt the time was right to record and release his next album and recruited the exquisite vocalist Alan Lewis, former Alaska member, who is the most recent vocalist with American prog legends Starcastle. Lewis also adds his tasty solid drum work to the mix. 'Time Mirrors' is a true masterpiece in progressive rock and has been garnered critical acclaim across the planet. The album was nominated for the 'Best CD of 2010' by the Italian Prog Awards.

PLP was a classical rock band with the focus on keyboard-based music. The influences of European classical music is an important part of their sound. This sets them apart from perhaps all other bands in the rock, pop and progressive music world of today. Their classic album GOTHIC IMPRESSIONS was elected in 1997 as one of the top ten progressive rock albums of all time along with groups like YES, GENESIS, ELP, MARILLION, PINK FLOYD and others. The Pär Lindh Project was the most successful Swedish progressive rock band of the 1990s.

Here's what the press have said about Pär Lindh:

"Pär Lindh is the Scandinavian king of the keyboards!" - IO pages

"Pär Lindh is the greatest composer and artist to emerge in the nineties!" - Metamusica

¨Swedish keyboardist, Pär Lindh, stole the equipment show by sitting in on the house concert organ at UCLA Royce Hall, Los Angeles Progfest. His sounds added a new degree of bone-shaking meaning to the phrase ¨pedal tones.¨ - Keyboard Magazine

"Pär Lindh is a phenomenon....His fingers dances on the keyboards…every note so natural and played with such a precision so you can´t help but being filled with admiration." Jean-Marc Rousse (journalist)

"Lindh is a top notch keyboard player, ranking right up there with the greats that he emulates." - Music News Network

"What is it that makes PLP so special? For one thing their musicianship is second to none, playing with a verve and skill that many prog acts would envy." - Geoff Feakes, DPRP reviews

Guitar Legend & Johnny Winter Protege Paul Nelson Releases New Album “Badass Generation”

Los Angeles – Much to the excitement of guitarists worldwide, guitar legend Paul Nelson has released his new album "Badass Generation" to critical acclaim! Grammy winning guitarist Paul Nelson was Johnny Winter's protege guitarist in the Johnny Winter Band.

Paul has toured with countless worldwide touring artists and performed live and or on recordings along side major artists such as Johnny Winter, Eric Clapton, Billy Gibbons, Ben Harper, Leslie West, Robben Ford, Joe Perry, Mark Knofler, Brian Setzer, Dr. John, Slash, Vince Gill, Warren Haynes, Sonny Landreth, Los Lobos, Kim Wilson, Elvin Bishop, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Reb Beach, Steve Morse, John Popper, Debbie Davies, Los Lobos, Quin Sullivan, Tinsley Ellis, Lucky Peterson, Joe Louis Walker, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, John Medeski, Joe Walsh, Larry Carlton, Steve Vai, Earl Slick, Hubert Sumlin, Pete Rivera, Rick Derringer, Harvey Brooks, Bill Evans, James Cotton, Magic Slim, Coco Montoya, Uptown Horns, Blues Brother Horns, Reese Wynans, Edgar Winter, Ray Davis, George Lynch, James Cotton, Anthony Jackson, Dickey Betts, Junior Brown, Pat Travers, Jimmy Vivino and La Bamba of Late Night with Conan O'Brien and Paul Schaefer's CBS Orchestra to name a few. With appearances on David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel programs.

Paul Nelson has been featured in every major guitar magazine and news publication from Guitar World to Rolling Stone and is credited as being a composer/performer for music heard on international and national television broadcasts such as NBC, TNN, UPN, for the WWE. He has conducted his successful "Master Class" Clinics and written guitar columns all over the world.

Paul has had the distinction of appearing as both guitarist and songwriter on Rock/Blues legend Johnny Winter's Grammy-nominated Virgin/EMI release "I'm A Bluesman" as well as producer/performer on his releases "Roots" and the Grammy winning "Step Back" on Megaforce/Sony. He performed as a musical guest with Johnny Winter on the Late Night with David Letterman Show to promote the "Roots" album and on Jimmy Kimmel on ABC TV to promote the "Step Back" CD and Johnny Winter's "Down and Dirty Movie," which he also appeared in and was the Executive Producer.

Nelson, who studied with Steve Vai in his Berklee days, jazz fusion great Steve Khan and Mike Stern has created a tour de force with his last all-instrumental rock/fusion solo release, "A very diverse package that takes the listener on a sophisticated journey through the musical mind of Paul Nelson. Boundless energy, and displays ferocious solo sections at the same time showing us his control over an emotional side of playing all the while holding it together with a tasteful melodic sense which comes through on each cut."

Paul's latest CD on Sony Music Group entitled "Badass Generation" has received rave reviews worldwide; calling Nelson "One of today's Top Guitarists"!

"What else can we say about Paul Nelson except - Chops Deluxe." - Guitar World Magazine

"He's a soulful player who has chops to burn. The word 'ferocious' comes to mind, or 'take no prisoners'" - Vintage Guitar Magazine

"Love this album - the sound and the energy. Gorgeous, searing guitar work. Like a blow torch!" – Wall Street Journal

Recognized as one of music's top guitarist/songwriter/producers Paul Nelson continues his musical journey recording and touring the world over. Nelson was not only guitarist to legendary rock/blues icon Johnny Winter but is recognized in his own right as one of today's premier guitarists. "Johnny definitely took me under his wing," Nelson remembers his late friend and mentor. "The blues world does that. One musician hands another the torch, and then you run with it. Johnny took pride in turning me on to the likes of Robert Johnson, T-Bone Walker, Muddy Waters Delta, Texas and Chicago blues - all the music that he loved. I knew what he was doing for me, and I am really appreciative of that."

Nelson performed on and produced "Step Back," a posthumous, star-studded affair, pairing him on recordings with Eric Clapton, Billy Gibbons, Joe Perry, Ben Harper and many others, earning both Nelson and Winter Grammy Awards for "Best Blues Album" in 2015. Nelson still feels the loss of his friend and mentor. But he also recognizes that new creative endeavors are ahead.

The formation of The Paul Nelson Band and the "Badass Generation" album marked the next step in that evolution. Nelson's new project still maintains an unmistakable connection to the blues, but it also finds the guitarist showing his other musical dimensions, from hard-edged, uncompromising rock and blues to acoustic-driven singer-songwriter fare.

"The Paul Nelson Band rocks. Period. Like the debut albums of Aerosmith or Van Halen, this self-titled debut is hot with licks that are in service to the song. That, right there, puts it a cut above. Nelson's sparkling electricity spills out of his guitar like Blues/Rock on Steroids. Singer Morten Fredheim is a find! Paul Rodgers ain't got nothin' on this guy! Nelson is razor-sharp, crystal-clear and punctuates the proceedings with a kick and a grin. This band can't help but be huge." - Goldmine Magazine

On this album Nelson and his newly formed band skillfully incorporate an array of sounds and styles, with what Nelson's fans know to be his calling card: remarkable, world-class virtuosity on the guitar - what you might expect of someone who was also taught by six-string master Steve Vai. "This project has so much input from all of the different styles of music that have influenced me and my band, from blues to classic rock to jam band, pop rock and more. I wanted to play the guitar to serve the songs – and not the other way around. Everything I create has to fit in with the music," says Nelson.

Nelson's handpicked co-conspirators include vocalist Morten Fredheim, who turned heads topping the European edition of "The Voice", bassist Christopher Alexander; and Chris Reddan on drums. Gov't Mule keyboardist Danny Louis also makes a cameo appearance. The collective result is something that's musically rooted in the classic era of Led Zeppelin, Free, Bad Company, Skynyrd, Tom Petty, Allman Brothers, Aerosmith and ZZ Top – but right at home with a fresh new take in the 21st century. "We got together and painstakingly worked out these songs before we recorded them. The caliber of the musicians in this band is inspiring" Nelson explains.

Nelson is eager to begin this new stage of his career with his band mates. Songs such as "Keep It All Together" with Fredheim's soaring vocals, and Nelson's classic guitar sounds to "Goodbye Forever", with it's infectious groove and chorus and "Please Come Home" displaying emotional melodies and soulful slide guitar work, all which are among the few future stand out classics found on this album. "I want our music to touch many people in the same way it did us in the making and performing of this album," says Nelson. His only regret? That his old friend wasn't able to sit in on a few of the tunes. "Johnny Winter's influence will always be a part of me," he says. "There are many times when I pick up my guitar, and I feel his music. I know he's with me in a way, but I also have influences from so many other places. Have I now spread my wings? Absolutely. I'm a musician. I have to keep on writing and performing and never stop."

The album's title "Badass Generation" says it all! The music on this latest recording speaks to today's generation's quest for something new and this band's music does just that, through great song writing and musicianship making for one great musical ride!

'Lost In The Ghost Light' is a concept album revolving around the onstage and backstage reflections of a fictional 'classic' Rock musician in the twilight of his career. Ranging from the hypnotic opener 'Worlds Of Yesterday' to the wistful climax of 'Distant Summers', via the thrilling rage of 'Kill The Pain That's Killing You' and the orchestral expanse of 'You'll Be The Silence', the album features some stunning solos and harmonically rich compositions that represent Bowness's most musically ambitious work to date.

Lyrically, the album addresses how the era of streaming and ageing audiences affects creativity, how a life devoted to music impacts on real / family life, and how idealistic beginnings can become compromised by complacency and the fear of being replaced by younger, more vital artists.

Tim elaborates: "It all started with me seeing a sixty something jogger in an expensive tracksuit rifling through the vegetable racks at my local Co-Op. His intense glare combined with his thinning long grey hair and Mick Fleetwood beard left me wondering which veteran Rock band he'd once played with. This got me thinking about the moment when music first came into this person's life and whether it still informed his music making in the present. Other questions followed about the tensions between commerce and art, career and idealism: Could the creative 'spark' be lost then re-discovered?; What were the costs of dedicating a life to music and how much did 'real' life get in the way of the 'magic'?; What was the effect of the changing nature of the industry on music itself as physical objects d'art became unpaid streams?; Were, as Brian Eno suggested, professional musicians like blacksmiths, echoes from another age and, if so, what was the impact of that realisation on a performer playing to an ageing crowd? Clearly, I thought too much!"

Jarrod Gosling (I Monster / Cobalt Chapel) provides the fantastically detailed artwork, which includes a visual history of the career of the concept's subject. The album will be available as a limited CD/DVD mediabook - including a 5.1 surround mix by Bruce Soord - and gatefold LP + CD & digital download.

The album is now available to pre-order from Burning Shed, including an exclusive hand numbered gold vinyl LP + CD limited to 400 copies. All orders will receive a signed artwork postcard. Pre-order here:

OKADA: "Division Of Self"

Okada is a project by Greg Pappas from Alabama, US. Initially  known to the music world as ZXYZXY, Greg used it as a vehicle for  experimentation and refinement of his writing technique while  dabbling in electro-acoustic, ambient, post-rock and even wonky  genres. It wasn't until the Summer of 2014 that he felt his music  clicked into place seemingly out-of-nowhere under Okada. Division of Self has a cinematic quality, the silver screen brought to life through music. You can barely make out a child's whisper, a placid, slightly melancholic piano and a female vocal that repeatedly cries out: 'Tell me that it's over'. The dark ambient facade fades, and the listener approaches a lovely, inviting ambient interior, with rose-colored paint and dusty, forgotten statues, decaying together like former lovers tangled up in the dirty sheets of a dead romance.
The sedate strolling pace is just what's needed. Okada creates a dreamy vibe that is intensely warm and understanding, full of theatrical flourishes and quieter moments for reflection and stillness. Ethereal in sound, and yet flirting with clipped n' clunky beats, Division of Self has an ambient heart that treads over a weary soul. The music has recovered from its troubled opening. It's almost as if it were saying "don't give up just yet".

GLASGOW COME SCALE: "Enter Oblivion"

Glasgow Coma Scale was formed in February 2011 by Piotr and  Marek Kowalski. The two brothers and trained classical musicians  lived their lives between Krakow/Poland, where they were born and  Barcelona/Spain, finally settling in Frankfurt / Germany. However,  they never got the chance to play together in the same band. Along  with the drummer Helmes Bode, the idea has now come full circle.  Why Enter Oblivion? Have you ever heard of people having their best ideas, just before they fall asleep? This is how lots of ideas on this record were born. Mostly, it was the question of catching the idea by singing it into for example a voice recorder or a mobile before entering the oblivion. So, in case of Glasgow Coma Scale, this very moment is crucial if it comes to generating ideas. You catch it and transfer it later into your songs, or you did not manage to stay awake and lose it. It is that simple. If you are into psychedelic rock, the new album will expand your universe.

Pre-YES Music Legends Mabel Greer's Toyshop To Release New Single From Forthcoming Album!

New single "Big Brother, Little Brother" to be released December 1, 2016!

London, UK - Pre-YES music legends Mabel Greer's Toyshop has found a novel way of releasing new musical works. The band will release one track per month for eight months starting today. The songs will be initially available as downloads and buying all eight songs will qualify for a free CD and booklet at the end.

Since founding members Clive Bayley and Bob Hagger reunited, the band have written and produced this second album inside 2 years. The first offering "New Way Of Life" was co-produced by the bass player of YES, Billy Sherwood, who also featured on the album playing bass and keyboards. Tony Kaye, original organist for Mabel Greer and for YES, also played on "New Way Of Life".

"No need to wait another year for fresh new Mabel Greer sounds, we would like our audience to slowly savor the songs one at a time, rather than trying to digest the whole album in one sitting", said composer, singer and guitarist, Clive Bayley. "This new offering called 'The Secret' is comprised of all exciting new material, the prior album included songs written in the sixties", added Bob Hagger.

Hugo Barré, on bass guitar, accompanies Bayley and Hagger along with a new addition to the band, Max Hunt on multiple keyboards who also co-produced this new album. What is The Secret? - Well apparently we will have to wait until the all tracks are released before finding out – an intriguing story…

The first song "Big Brother, Little Brother", an almost 9 minute epic, laments the ongoing plight of Native American Indians. The track will be available from December 1, 2016 from https://mabelgreerstoyshop.bandcamp.com, Amazon, iTunes and all major distribution platforms.

Anneke van Giersbergen announces new band VUUR

Renowned Dutch vocalist Anneke van Giersbergen has announced the formation of a brand new band under the name of VUUR, created as a vehicle for the heavy progressive metal side of her career.

Watch an introduction to VUUR here:

In early 2016, Anneke decided for the sake of clarity to narrow her musical focus, choosing to go in a folk acoustic direction as a solo artist and in a heavy progressive metal direction as a band vocalist. The name VUUR - translated from Dutch as "fire", which can also be interpreted to mean "passion" or "drive" - was chosen as a moniker to represent Anneke's metal side, with the idea that when fans buy a ticket with the VUUR name on it they will be getting her heavy progressive music, while an Anneke van Giersbergen show will be entirely different. Thus, in order to give VUUR's kick-off the proper fanfare, Anneke has opted to take a break from performing in the first half of 2017.

"It's like I'm searching for contradictions," Anneke says of splitting her focus in two. "I want the heavy to be really heavy, and the soft acoustic stuff that I can do can be almost silent and inward. I'm trying to find those outer limits. I'm still writing and collaborating with different people, so VUUR's style is still kind of different from The Gathering and The Gentle Storm. You could say VUUR's music has the melancholy of The Gathering and lots of elements from The Gentle Storm, but it's a bit darker with fewer folk elements. It's still melodic and warm, but heavy."

The band shares some members with The Gentle Storm live band, and you can find the full line-up below:

Anneke van Giersbergen (ex-The Gathering) - lead vocals
Ed Warby (Hail of Bullets, Ayreon, ex-Gorefest) - drums
Jord Otto - guitars (My Propane, ex-ReVamp)
Ferry Duijsens - guitars
Johan van Stratum (Stream of Passion) - bass
Marcela Bovio (Stream of Passion) - vocals

Anneke comments: "The band has a different name, because the music will be slightly different from The Gentle Storm, but most band members are still involved and the music will be heavy too, so in that perspective not a lot will change, especially in the live situation. I think people will really embrace VUUR as a live band because there are nothing but stars in this band (laughs). They're some of the best heavy metal players in Holland so I didn't want to let them go."

Look out for the first live announcements coming soon, with a debut full length due in the fall of 2017.
