French Music Legends Magma To Perform With The Mëtalïk Orkestra At The Olympia In Paris - February 2 & 3, 2017!

Paris, France - Bands and trends might come and go, but some of it is meant to stay. Far beyond a mere jolt to the music world or a fad phenomenon, Magma imposed themselves as early as the 1970's thanks to their unconventional and cliché-free approach to music. An unparalleled music, which is as violent as it is clever. Founded by drummer and singer Christian Vander, the band quickly set itself apart from its contemporaries through heavy and ruthless polyrhythmic beats. With a wide range of contemporary musical greats at his side, Vander remains a fine mentor from the likes of Miles Davis.

Since its reunion in 1996, the band has gone on several tours, always followed by its ever-growing and loyal fan base, and attracting an increasingly young audience! The cult band celebrated its 40th anniversary with the release of two Classical influenced bright new albums in 2009 and 2012. For their 45th anniversary, Magma is back with two new opuses respectively titled "Riah Sahiltaahk" and "Slag Tanz", as well as a vinyl reissue of their whole discography. Since 2015, the band has been on a worldwide tour called "Le Tour Sans Fin". Magma's music is timeless.

At the Olympia, Magma will be supported by the Mëtalïk Orkestra, a new creation project. The ensemble will be performing selections from their extensive catalog including Emehntehtt-Ré and Slag Tanz. The orchestra is composed by 27 CMDL students (Didier Lockwood's music school) and from the PSPBB of Paris.

Magma in concert on February 2nd and 3rd at the Olympia in Paris.

COSARARA - "Cosarara"

CosaRara is a project born in 2005, that saw many bandmembers' changes during the years and today eventually manages to record and publish their first eponymous album.
The roots of the group are intimately bound (though not by birth, given the young age of the members) to the '70s prog music; the psychedelic and progressive vein of the band inevitably leads them to experiment with new musical languages, flowing at times into electronica, math and post-rock. The current lineup, made solid not only by time mostly by an intense passion for playing together, present their self-titled album as an arriving and simultaneously starting new point. Six long instrumental tracks - with the exception of the brief interlude "Serenloonies" - that can flow in a single homogeneous mix or be individually listened to, each as a planet in its own, threaded by the band's ability to overlap and merge various sound layers in an often surprising way. In a nutshell, "CosaRara" will undoubtedly awaken the attention of the most hardened 'proggers' too!
Tracklist: 1.Havismat, 2.Serenloonies, 3.Miraggio, 4.iO, 5.Totentanz and 6.Innisfree

JONAS LINDBERG & THE OTHER SIDE - "Pathfinder"

Jonas Lindberg & The Other Side is a Progressive rock project from Stockholm, Sweden founded in 2012 by bassplayer, songwriter and producer Jonas Lindberg. It all started back in 2008 when the EP "IN SECRET PACE" was recorded by Jonas as an exam-project at the college of Music in Piteå, Sweden. The first recordings featured a large lineup of musicians and was originally intended to work as a demo for an upcoming band. But as term ended Jonas moved to Stockholm to pursue a career as a freelance musician and the idea got put on hold. In 2012 "IN SECRET PACE" was finally released on digital platforms as Jonas started to work on new material.  This time the lineup featured a 5 piece band and the second EP "THE OTHER SIDE" was finished and released in 2013. The project was named "JONAS LINDBERG & THE OTHER SIDE" from the title track of the album after its release. Playing on the album is Jonas LINDBERG on bass, backing vocals, keyboards and guitars together with Jonas SUNDQVIST (lead vocals), Jonathan LUNDBERG (drums), Calle STÅLENBRING (guitars) and Michael OTTOSSON (keyboards). Two more musicians, Nicklas THELIN (guitar) and Jenny SANDGREN (vocal) later joined for the live shows.

NOSOUND - "Scintilla"

Nosound's fifth album and includes guest appearances from Anathema's Vincent Cavanagh and acclaimed Italian singer Andrea Chimenti. After a decade of crafting a very particular type of widescreen melancholia and wistful imagery, Nosound's fifth studio album Scintilla introduces a wholly new musical and visual approach for Giancarlo Erra's ever-evolving band. Inspired by personal upheaval and a desire for change, Scintilla is an emotionally complex and musically direct work presenting a stripped-down set of compositions that mark a major departure from Nosound's trademark symphonic lushness and production precision. Taking in influences from Post Rock, Shoegaze and Alt-Singer-Songwriters, the album imaginatively utilises a mostly organic and acoustic sound palette. Musically looser and more sonically intimate than the band's previous releases, Scintilla's emphasis is placed firmly on feeling rather than technique.

3rd EAR EXPERIENCES - "Stones Of A Feather"

On their new album STONES OF A FEATHER  3rd Ear Experience have taken full advantage of the musical possibilities unique to space rock. It is clear that their environment, the Mojave desert, with its wide open spaces, big skies and rugged landscapes, have helped them to blossom a modern desert music, rich in the complex overtones of 60's psychedelic rock.   STONES OF A FEATHER, 3rd Ear Experiences 4th album, is a curious mixture of the old and the new; reaching back into the reckless abandonment of Cream live circa: 1967 to Ornette Coleman's free jazz, diving down into  the deep well of Krautrock to soaring on fuzzy Sabbath like riffs of contemporary stoner rock. Yet no generalization is ultimately true of 3rd Ear Experience.  The music was derived from spontaneous ideas that came up during live jams on their 2015 tour of Europe and from free form jamming at the FurstWurld Gallery of Music and Performing Arts where the band records. The album guests 18 local desert musicians considered by many to be the cream of the desert crop!  Dug Pinnick of Kings X fame, returns once again to add his heavy bottom growl to the brew. Please browse the blog for interesting stories on each of these musicians and how they came to be part of this album.

LEON ALVARADO - "The Future Left Behind"

According to Leon, "The idea of creating a concept album out of instrumental progressive rock music had appealed to me ever since I first heard Rick Wakeman's 'Journey To The Centre of The Earth'. What I found difficult was to create all the individual pieces that would unify the set of ideas into a single concept. It meant for me to come up with a story, some music and a set of visuals that together would form an inclusive experience. I started by working on music that had more of a cinematic feel than my usual, meaning that when played, it evokes certain imagery in the listener's mind."  Says Leon, "My goal was to create something that would combine the artwork and the music into one cohesive vision. I thought that basing my project on a sci-fi story would be very fitting and would give me the necessary creative space to make music that entices the imagination, like what Vangelis', Rick Wakeman's and YES' music do for me."
Leon Alvarado: Keyboards, sequencing, drums, percussion, launch control voices, Billy Sherwood: Lead and rhythm guitars on all except for "To Be Loved", Rick Wakeman: Moog solo on "Launch Overture" and extra keyboards, Johnny Bruhns: Acoustic guitar on "To Be Loved", Steve Thamer: Narration. Produced and mixed by: Leon Alvarado
Guitar tracks produced by: Billy Sherwood, Mastered by: Andy Jackson, All songs by Leon Alvarado except "To Be Loved" by Johnny Bruhns and Leon Alvarado.

The name Karfagen was first heard in 1997 when Antony Kalugin formed the band at school. While he was studying at the architectural university (1998) he began to record the first KARFAGEN album. And then they were two. Antony Kalugin and his close friend Sergei Kovalev (accordion and harmonica).  In 2002 Antony completed his first solo album "the Water" Then there was another period of silence where Antony worked on commercial new age - relax projects. From 2003 - 2005 Antony composed and performed on more than 40 albums, that were released in Russia and Ukraine. With those projects, Antony gathered the necessary funds to record the first KARFAGEN Album and in 2005 the band reformed and went into the studio to record CONTINIUM, the first KARFAGEN album which led the band to sign with UNICORN DIGITAL .

KARMAMOI - "Silence Between Sounds"

The Karmamoi band was born in 2008 as the result of five musicians' desire to create a musical project able to reflect their personality and idea of music. A kind of music in which musical research, melody, electronic music, rock distortions coexist as well as strike a balance, giving expression to a passion- driven, imposing, immediately recognisable sound. "Silence Between Sounds" is the third album from the Italian progressive rock band Karmamoi. Due to changes with band line-up, "Silence Between Sounds" took over two years to realise. Karmamoi used this opportunity creating music in a different way than they have done previously, walking on a new musical path with their personal idea of progressive rock. This process allowed them to progress beyond all previous recorded material. They decided to keep the band without an official vocalist, and for this reason their new album "Silence Between Sounds" features singers. Whilst maintaining the essence of Karmamoi's music, each singer brings their unique vocal characteristics to the music.

Supertramp Founding Member & King Crimson Songwriter Richard Palmer-James Releases Debut Solo Album “Takeaway”

London, UK - Supertramp founding member & King Crimson songwriter Richard Palmer-James has released his debut solo album "Takeaway"! An English songwriter & guitarist, Richard is best known for having written lyrics to several songs by the progressive rock group King Crimson in the early 1970s.

Says Richard, "Having spent the last few decades writing words for other people to sing, and thus being obliged to comply with the ambitions and sensibilities of others, I wanted to present a collection of songs that are uncompromisingly my own.

"I've been trying them out in club and pub appearances as a singer/songwriter, and they seem to work, but I'm very curious to see what sort of reaction this album production, which was realised with the indispensable help of a few talented colleagues from the Munich music scene, might elicit.

"The recordings differ stylistically from most of the stuff I worked on as a hired hand - probably because I enjoy playing acoustic instruments and writing pieces which involve storytelling."

Richard Palmer-James got his start in the music business playing in various Bournemouth bands: The Corvettes, The Palmer-James Group (formed with Alec James), Tetrad, and Ginger Man, all of which also included John Wetton on bass and vocals. He was a founding member of Supertramp; he played guitar, sang vocals and wrote the lyrics for their self-titled debut album under the name Richard Palmer and co-wrote the lyrics of the song "Goldrush", a song written during his days in the band and finally recorded on their 2002 album "Slow Motion".

Richard wrote lyrics for three of King Crimson's albums: "Larks' Tongues in Aspic", "Starless and Bible Black", and "Red". He did not participate in any of King Crimson's recordings, but worked with John Wetton and David Cross after Robert Fripp disbanded the group in 1974.

Richard has lived in Munich since the early 1970s. He worked in Munich on the composition and production of music for films and TV until his activities as a lyricist – for such diverse acts as King Crimson, La Bionda, Mireille Mathieu and Haddaway, among others – took priority, resulting in over 400 published titles. In the 90's, however, he returned to playing guitar regularly, and with the help of the resonator guitar and mandolin began to rediscover in blues and folk music the sources of his
musical inspiration.

In 1978 Richard was visited by John Wetton and W.J. Hutcheson, who were his bandmates in Tetrad, and they recorded as "Jack-Knife" an album with the German drummer Curt Cress in 10 days called "I Wish You Would". He also wrote the English lyrics for the Italo Disco inventors La Bionda.

In 1997 he released a CD with former bandmate John Wetton under the title "Monkey Business", a compilation of unreleased material including some songs that were recorded for the first time in studio, like a King Crimson tune called "Doctor Diamond". In 2015 "I Wish You Would" and "Monkey Business" were released together as a twofer and that continues to be available via this link: http://geni.us/OVtK2P

Today Richard makes his living mainly as a lyricist and performing on guitar live. In support of his new album, Richard Palmer-James will be playing showcase concerts in the UK and Germany.

Jazz Guitar Icon Larry Coryell To Release New Studio Album “Barefoot Man: Sanpaku”

Los Angeles - Much to the excitement of music aficionados worldwide, Jazz guitar icon Larry Coryell, one of the most respected and celebrated guitarists of his generation, offers a brand new album of seven original compositions titled "Barefoot Man: Sanpaku"!
Says Larry, "I was inspired by John Lappen's suggestion that I do a recording similar to one that I did in the 70's that had a lot of energy. Using that as a template I carved out several compositions that I felt would be appropriate. The result was better than I expected; I had a great rhythm section in John Lee and Lee Pierson, and the soloists from Florida, Lynne Arriale and Dan Jordan, played on a world class level. Michael Franklin's production was hands off except for a few relevant suggestions that really helped round out the project."

In addition to Coryell's signature guitar playing, this album features the talents of award-winning pianist Lynne Arriale, longtime Coryell collaborator John Lee on bass, Dan Jordan on saxophone and flute, and drummer Lee Pierson!
