Rikard Sjöblom's Gungfly release lyric video for 'Old Demons Die Hard'

Following last years disbanding of Sweden's much-loved progressive rockers Beardfish, vocalist and driving force Rikard Sjöblom has turned his attention to his solo project Gungfly, and signed with InsideOutMusic for the release of their next album 'On Her Journey To The Sun' on May 19th, 2017.

Following the release of the title track last month, they are now pleased to launch a lyric video for the track 'Old Demons Die Hard' which you can see here:

Rikard had this to say: "Old Demons Die Hard is a song about a bully and one of his victims. No virgin territory for me lyrically but this one has a different approach to the subject. It's a song that I started writing and working on without really having a clear idea where I wanted to take it musically so I guess that's why it's all over the place, hahaha! Our hero gets a phone call from an old classmate who used to be a real bastard to him in school - he's moved back to town and wants to meet up and have a cup of coffee. At the same time as he hates the guy, our protagonist still struggles with feelings of feeling appreciated and cool because this clown is even acknowledging his existence. So the story takes place as he's walking up to his house and he doesn't know if he's gonna say hi or punch him in the face once the door opens...

I'm personally fond of this song, or mainly the process of writing and recording it, for the simple fact that it stands out as different from anything I've ever done with either Beardfish or Gungfly and still sounds very familiar for both bands - it might be the union of the two. It has the 70's prog vibe of early Beardfish and the psychedelic funk-infused soul grooves of Gungfly and maybe, just maybe, something new..?"

Watch the previously released live video for the title track here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXIL75HtKbQ

'On Her Journey To The Sun' will be available as a special edition 2CD digipak, including a second 'best-of' disc featuring a hand-picked selection of tracks from earlier Gungfly releases. It will also be available as gatefold 2LP + CD & digital download.

Pre-order the digital download from iTunes and Amazon and receive the title track instantly:

Or order the album from:

"I recorded what was to become the first album between 2007 - 2008 and it was released in 2009. The name Gungfly is a Swedish word meaning unsecure ground, and it came from a novel I read where it was used to describe that someone didn't have grounds to back up their statements, so I liked it and chose to call the project that!" Rikard continues: "I've always been writing and recording lots of music and when I formed the live band to perform these songs for the first time I got to pick some of my oldest friends to play with and thankfully they wanted to be part of it! Petter and Rasmus Diamant (yes, they're brothers) on drums and bass have always been the backbone foundation in this line-up and sometimes we actually do gigs as the Gungfly trio. Sverker Magnusson has been behind the keys since the start and was recently joined by Martin Borgh too to be able to cover all of the keyboard work on the albums, so sometimes we do three keyboard players on stage at the same time! This is made possible by the fact that guitarist David Zackrisson (Beardfish) is in the band as well. Me then? I do what I've always done; sing, play guitars and a bunch of vintage keyboards (mainly Hammond organ) - and I have lots of fun."

Rikard Sjöblom is perhaps best known as the multi-instrumentalist frontman of Beardfish, who established themselves as one of the most consistently brilliant modern-day progressive rock bands over the course of eight studio albums. In recent years, he has also become known for his work with English progressive collective Big Big Train, playing live with them as well as performing on their 2016 album 'Folklore'. That year also marked the release of his most recent solo album under his own name, 'The Unbendable Sleep'.

The Tangent announce new studio album 'The Slow Rust of Forgotten Machinery'

The Tangent, the progressive rock group led by Andy Tillison, have announced the release of the first new music since 2015. Their new ninth studio album 'The Slow Rust of Forgotten Machinery' is set for release on July 21st, 2017. The line-up for this album once again features Tillison on keyboards, vocals (and for the first time on a Tangent record - drums), Jonas Reingold on bass, Luke Machin on guitars and vocals, and Theo Travis on sax and flutes plus new member Marie-Eve de Gaultier on keys and vocals. There are also guest appearances from author/playwright and Chumbawamba founder Boff Whalley on vocals, and upcoming DJ/producer Matt Farrow.

Band leader Andy Tillison had this to say: "Roger Waters did prove the ability of Progressive Music to act as a vehicle to communicate ideas about the current world scene. In both Pink Floyd's "The Final Cut" and his "Amused To Death" albums, Waters set a challenge to others in the genre. A challenge which has not been frequently accepted."

The album sees The Tangent in political commentary mode once again - this time often focussing on the horrendous plight of refugees from war torn parts of the world - and the way in which they are treated by the West, and in particular by the tabloid press. The album laments the new trend in building walls and defending borders across the world yet takes time to look at the breakup of friendships and other more personal issues - along with a song about the fate of wildlife in the modern consumer world.

And it's a Progressive Rock Record. Full of intricacies, long developed pieces, challenging arrangements and virtuoso playing from all members. New sounds and styles (the band have brought a DJ on board for some sections) - new voices and techniques (first female vocals in The Tangent since the "Not As Good As The Book" album 10 years ago). A new producer in the form of Luke Machin whose open and deep/clear sound is a major factor of this album, a new drummer in the form of Andy Tillison who decided at long last (after drumming for 30 years) to let his own performances guide the rest of the band rather than adding another musician later. And after 13 years of asking, Jonas finally agreed to play some double bass in a song where Luke also plays some Scat guitar and Andy does a full on drum solo.

"The Slow Rust Of Forgotten Machinery" also features stellar artwork from Marvel / DC Comics artist Mark Buckingham. The sleeve of the album is totally based on the music it contains and was especially created for this project.

The album will be available on limited digipak CD, gatefold 2LP + CD, and digital download, and you can find the full track-listing below:

1.  Two Rope Swings
2.  Doctor Livingstone (I Presume)
3.  Slow Rust
4.  The Sad Story of Lead and Astatine

The Strawberry Bricks Guide to Progressive Rock Revised and Expanded Edition by Charles Snider to be Released April 22

The definitive record guide to the progressive era of rock music, Strawberry Bricks presents a standard discography of music from artists around the globe. Beginning in 1967 and continuing through 1982, a generation of musicians took rock music in directions unforeseen as they charted what would become known as progressive rock. This edition also includes exclusive interviews with a host of musicians of the era, providing proof that progressive rock was indeed the music of a generation. From art rock to krautrock, from England to Germany to Italy and all across Europe, Strawberry Bricks offers a candid reappraisal of rock's most cerebral genre.

The book also includes exclusive interviews from the following artists, about their early life and how they began their music careers:Dave Lawson (Web, Samurai, Greenslade), Martin Barre (Jethro Tull), Christian Grumbkow (Hoelderlin), Derek Shulman(Gentle Giant), John Wetton (Mogul Thrash, Family, King Crimson, UK, Asia), David Jackson (Van der Graaf Generator), Pye Hastings (Caravan), Hugh Banton (Van der Graaf Generator), Gigi Venegoni (Arti e Mestieri), Hartwig Biereichel (Novalis), Ciro Perrino (Celeste), Michael Rother (Neu!, Harmonia), Joachim "Eroc" Ehrig (Grobschnitt), Rich Williams (Kansas), Steve Hillage (Khan, Gong), and Lutz "Lüül" Ulbrich (Agitation Free, Ashra).

The Strawberry Bricks Guide to Progressive Rock
Revised and Expanded Edition
• The definitive Progressive Rock record guide
• Reviews of 476 albums from 1967 - 1982
• 632 pages
• Exclusive interviews with 16 artists from the era
• Fully edited, proofread and fact-checked

"Navigating the topographic oceans, surviving the brain salad surgery and in general making sense of the dense, incredibly ambitious, and so often misunderstood or unfairly denigrated genre of progressive rock is a difficult task, but Charles Snider accomplishes it with the insight of the very best rock critics combined with the infectious enthusiasm of the most devoted fans." - Jim DeRogatis, Music Critic & co-host of Sound Opinions

"Charles Snider has an encyclopedic knowledge of progressive rock, and has accrued one of the world's most formidable record collections. No one is better equipped to write the definitive discography of this rich genre of music." - Jonathan Schang, District 97

"Charles Snider's Strawberry Bricks record guide is accessible, comprehensive, and indispensable. A great read and an excellent resource." - Will Romano, author of Close to the Edge: How Yes's Masterpiece Defined Prog Rock & Mountains Come Out of the Sky

The Strawberry Bricks Guide to Progressive Rock is the definitive record guide to the classic progressive era of rock music. Beginning in 1967 and continuing until 1982, the book presents the progressive rock canon, set in the presentation of a timeline. This new edition extends the timeline into the early 80's, to offer a more natural conclusion to the progressive era, as well as offering a broader selection of albums from the era.

Secondly, beginning with a database of the birth years of musicians in the timeline, the book offers that what we now know as "progressive rock" is in fact the music of a generation. The statistics play out: the median birth year for the "progressive artist" is 1947, with a standard deviation of +/- 3 years.

Says Charles, "I've also conducted many interviews with artists from the era, and 16 of these appear in the book. The premise was to study their early lives, from birth through the late 60's and very early 70's, to find the commonalities that these men experienced. The newly written Prologue offers a historical perspective of the pretext to the progressive era, beginning post-WWII, while the Epilogue offers a current perspective on progressive rock since the early 80's.

"I've also spent a good deal of time fact-checking every detail in the book, including song titles and artist names. Further, this edition has been professionally edited and peer reviewed, all to make this as exacting and rewarding a book as the music it covers.Strawberry Bricks is another narrative on the classic era of progressive rock, one with hopefully a novel and candid outlook on the genre, its albums and the men that made it one of the most interesting chapters in rock's history.

"The cover is an image of the vinyl record grooves on Jethro Tull's Minstrel In The Gallery album. Enjoy the music!"

About the Author:
Charles Snider has been collecting records since the early 70's, amassing one of the most complete archives of what is known as progressive rock. "One of my earliest memories of vinyl was The Beatles' 'Paperback Writer' b/w 'Rain.' I can remember turning the balance knob to isolate the sounds within the stereo mix, and just being fascinated with the tones of the instruments." Snider's self-professed passion for the music "archaeology" continued over the decades, branching out to many other genres of music. "In the early 90's, Kevin Eden and I curated the WMO label, with the cooperation and support of Wire. The CD was a new format, and we released a lot of hard to find records, as well as unreleased archival material and two very good tribute discs." Upon moving to Chicago in 2000, he began writing the first edition of The Strawberry Bricks Guide to Progressive Rock. "I've always loved record guides. Certainly, Ira Robbin's Trouser Press was the prototype, but growing up in the 70's with magazines like Circus, Creem and of courseRolling Stone, I've always enjoyed the passion writers convey about music." While not listening to prog rock, Snider can be found blogging about personal technology or cheering on the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Revised and Expanded Edition of The Strawberry Bricks Guide to Progressive Rock is released on Record Store Day, April 22nd, 2017. Available direct from http://strawberrybricks.com/the-book, and from Amazon.com (including UK and EU). Published byhttp://www.strawberrybricks.com/ via CreateSpace.com, an Amazon company.

LACUNA COIL Re-sign with Century Media Records, Prepare To Embark On Worldwide Tour

Currently celebrating their 20 year anniversary, Italian Metal icons LACUNA COIL and the band's long time label, Century Media, have decided that it is time to enter into another chapter in their relationship. Both parties are pleased to announce that Lacuna Coil have just signed a new deal with Century Media Records.

LACUNA COIL lead vocalist Cristina Scabbia shared her feelings on the band's continued partnership with their long standing label, stating: "I am so excited to have signed with Century Media again. Nowadays it is so important that, whichever label is backing up an artist or a band, one has full trust in the artistic and musical vision. I know that Lacuna Coil and Century Media will continue to work hard together to make common goals happen faster and more successfully."

Andrea Ferro (vocals) adds his thoughts: "We are really excited about starting this new adventure with Century Media Records. We've had some great 20 years together that helped us become an internationally successful band. Like in every relationship there have been ups and downs, but overall we've worked with some great people who have always been willing to grow up with the band and together we have achieved really amazing goals. Here's to another chapter about to start and more successful stories!"

Fresh, dark, and extremely powerful are only a few of the best ways to accurately describe LACUNA COIL's newest opus, Delirium, which encompasses the strength and heavy approach of thrash metal from the 90's twisted with goth elements into a modern style.

Antje Lange, General Manager International of Century Media Records also commented on the label's new deal with Lacuna Coil, saying "Century Media Records is very happy that LACUNA COIL have renewed their contract with us and we are very much looking forward to the next albums from this exceptional Italian band. Century Media appreciates the continuous trust of the band. The recent album 'Delirium' charted in 12 countries and the band is touring around the globe."

In addition to re-signing with Century Media, LACUNA COIL recently announced that they will be joining Dutch symphonic metal giants Epica on the North American leg of the band's "Ultimate Principle" Tour. The month-long September trek marks the band's first US tour dates in over a year, as they continue to support their latest full length studio album, Delirium. The Room band release Full Circle

The Room Release "Full Circle" Video

The Room today release the second video from their critically acclaimed Live DVD filmed at  The Robin 2 in Bilston.  "Full Circle" is a powerful song that I believe many people will identify with on a personal level.

Martin Wilson said of "Full Circle" its a song that talks about how there can be another way, how you can turn your life around from dark times to good and "flick the switch to begin again" .

On a more personal note. Last year I had a serious problem with alcohol which I am more than happy to talk about if it helps others in the same boat as I was. When you are in the depths of alcohol fuelled depression there seems to be no way out and the world closes in on you.  I personally listened to this song at least three times a day, analysing it over and over and for me personally it was one of the key triggers that helped me get clean and sober.  I know it may seem a big thing to say but truly this song made a huge difference to my outlook on life and I cannot thank Martin and the boys enough for writing it. (Rick Palin).

Rock band asks 100 PEOPLE to sing with them

"I used to put CDs on in my room and scream along to them…" Oliver Sykes recalls

What if anyone could sing on the studio album of their favorite band?

It's not a secret that every one of us has sung along to their favorite songs at least once in a lifetime and imagined themselves as a band member.

Nothing is impossible: rock band Roamers launched a unique and challenging campaign on Kickstarter to let anyone sing on their debut single set to be released in July this summer.

They've chosen a catchy song to be spawned as the first single, which includes choir vocals. That song is supposed to kickstart an interest in their debut album. Roamers frontman Anton Ratkevich explains: "We wanted to use a professional choir, but then we came up with an idea to ask people to sing with us."

So Roamers found it challenging to ask anyone interested to help their plans come true and to record choir vocals for their song. Of course, some musicians engaged fans to sing on their albums before, but they [fans] were chosen by musicians themselves. This project is different. In this case anyone can do that, and it seems to be the FIRST-TIME-EVER campaign of that kind. No matter whether you are a professional or not.

Let's sing along! Learn more on

Rick Wakeman Launches Pre-Sale Campaign on PledgeMusic For “Crimes of Passion” Limited Edition Deluxe Box Set

London - Keyboard legend Rick Wakeman has launched a pre-sale campaign on PledgeMusic for a very special limited edition Deluxe Box Set of his soundtrack "Crime of Passion".

Originally released in 1984 "Crimes of Passion" was directed by Ken Russell and starred Kathleen Turner, Anthony Perkins, John Laughlin and Annie Potts. The film explores themes of human relationships and mental illness. A mix of sex and suspense.

"Working with Ken Russell was not only a highlight in my musical life but also a great learning time for me as well….Ken truly understood film and film music like no other. He knew what he wanted, but after telling you then expected you to take his ideas to another level.

"He was always involved and came to stay with me during my writing period. He would listen and make suggestions. He would always be complimentary if you did something he really liked and if he felt something wasn't working musically he would discuss it with you and explain what he needed for the film.

"I learned so much from Ken and to this day I feel it is a tragedy that in his later years film companies didn't give him more opportunities to show off his talents.

" 'Crimes of Passion' is a much deeper film than it has ever been given credit for. It took many years before 'Lisztomania' became cult and recognised for the clever film it was and I class 'Crimes of Passion' in a similar way…

"With every film Ken ever made the viewer and listener has to immerse themselves into every crevice of the work and may take multiple viewings before his genius is truly absorbed." - Rick Wakeman, New York April 2017

KANSAS TO CARRY ON LEFTOVERTURE 40TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR TO EVEN MORE SELECT U.S. CITIES

SEXTUPLE-PLATINUM ALBUM TO BE PERFORMED IN ITS ENTIRETY

FINAL U.S. DATES FOR LEFTOVERTURE 40TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR

NEW STUDIO ALBUM THE PRELUDE IMPLICIT OUT NOW

March 23rd, 2017 - KANSAS will be expanding their highly successful Leftoverture 40th Anniversary Tour to more parts of the United States in the fall of 2017! Billboard announced the expansion of the tour in an exclusive article and interview here: http://bit.ly/2msBQCh

For the first time in its 43-year history, the band is performing the hit album in its entirety. The tour showcases more than two hours of classic KANSAS music including hit songs, deep cuts, and new songs from their new album, The Prelude Implicit.
Based on incredible demand, dates have been confirmed for a final U.S. leg of the Leftoverture 40th Anniversary Tour across cities such as San Francisco, CA; San Diego, CA; Houston, TX; Minneapolis, MN; Topeka, KS; Champaign, IL; Wichita, KS; Knoxville, TN; Toledo, OH; Jacksonville, FL; and many more.

"We are having so much fun doing these Leftoverture 40th Anniversary shows, we just want to keep doing them," comments KANSAS guitarist and original member Richard Williams. "We had no idea when we started doing these, last fall, that they would be so popular. When we first started discussing this concept, we were just hoping to be able to do ten of these type shows. We would not have predicted we would end up doing nearly 70 of them. I can't think of a better way to wrap up 2017, before taking a break from the road at the beginning of 2018, to record a new studio album."

Tickets for most new tour dates can be purchased starting on March 31. More information is available at www.kansasband.com. Additional presale and VIP package information will be available at the band's Facebook page www.facebook.com/kansasband.

In 1976, KANSAS released the album Leftoverture. Containing the smash hit and million- selling single "Carry On Wayward Son," along with fan favorites such as "The Wall," "Miracles Out Of Nowhere," and "What's On My Mind," Leftoverture became the band's breakthrough album. The album peaked at #5 on Billboard's Album charts and reached sextuple-platinum status with more than six million copies sold. They are performing the album in its entirety on this tour.

The Prelude Implicit, the band's most recent album, which was released on September 23rd, marked KANSAS' biggest selling week in the Soundscan era, and the highest charting release since Power (1986). The album reached #14 on the Top 200 album chart, #41 on the Billboard 200, #5 for Rock Albums, #6 for Physical Albums, #17 on the Vinyl Albums chart and more. The Prelude Implicit is now available for purchase in stores and online at Best Buy, Amazon, Apple Music, FYE, Barnes & Noble, Wal-Mart, Spotify and Independent Record Shops.

Robert Alan Krieger, born January 8, 1946, in Los Angeles, is a musical performer and The Doors guitarist. He attended UCLA. "The first music I heard that I liked was Peter and the Wolf. I accidentally sat and broke the record (I was about seven). Then I listened to rock 'n' roll – I listened to the radio a lot – Fats Domino, Elvis, The Platters.

"There was lots of classical music in my house. My father liked march music. There was a piano at home. I studied trumpet at ten, but nothing came of it. Then I started playing blues on the piano? no lessons though. When I was fifteen, I started playing guitar. I used my friend's guitar. I didn't get my own until I was sixteen. It was a Mexican flamenco guitar. I took flamenco lessons for a few months. I switched around from folk to flamenco to blues to rock 'n' roll.

"Records got me into the blues. Some of the newer rock 'n' roll, such as the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. If it hadn't been for Butterfield going electric, I probably wouldn't have gone rock 'n' roll.

I didn't plan on rock 'n' roll. I wanted to learn jazz; I got to know some people doing rock 'n' roll with jazz, and I thought I could make money playing music. In rock 'n' roll you can realize anything that you can in jazz or anything. There's no limitation other than the beat. You have more freedom than you do in anything except jazz.

"In The Doors we have both musicians and poets, and both know of each other's art, so we can effect a synthesis. In the case of Tim Buckley or Dylan you have one man's ideas. Most groups today aren't groups. In a true group all the members create the arrangements among themselves."
