Hollywood Rockers Pretty Boy Floyd Salute The Kings Of Theatrical Metal KISS On The New Album KISS OF DEATH!

Los Angeles, CA - The bad boys of Hollywood sleaze metal take on the gods of New York glam on this bombastic tribute album! Featuring 15 supercharged versions of KISS classics including "Shout It Out Loud," "Detroit Rock City," and "I Love It Loud," KISS OF DEATH is a virtual wet dream for fans of both of these larger-than-life bands. PBF founding member Kristy Majors leads the attack with his razor sharp guitar alongside vocalist Steve Summers who together breathe new life into the classic metal anthems of Gene Simmons & Co. KISS OF DEATH is available now on CD and will be available on vinyl later this year!

From the very beginning, Pretty Boy Floyd wore their influences on their black fishnet sleeves. Even the name of their 1989 debut album for MCA Records, Leather Boyz With Electric Toyz, was a "tongue-in-cheek tip of the hat to their glamorous heroes - Sweet, KISS, the NY Dolls - all the bands who believed that rock music wasn't just music - it was a show, a spectacle, a lifestyle." Pretty Boy Floyd certainly carried the torch of theatrical rock with their Top 20 MTV videos "I Wanna Be With You" and "Rock And Roll Is Gonna Set The Night On Fire." Their debut album would go on to sell 750,000 copies worldwide, and laid the foundation for the incredible career they've sustained over the decades. Trends have come and gone but these Boyz have survived and thrived, recording new music for a growing fanbase and still touring the world!

EXXILES to Release "Oblivion" via Nightmare Records on May 28

Exxiles is a symphonic/progressive metal band Formed in 2012 by drummer Mauricio Bustamante, featuring guest appearances from the members of bands such: Symphony X, ex-Savatage, Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Circle II Circle, Communic, Circus Maximus, Stream of Passion, Revolution Renaissance, Spiral Architect, etc. The band's upcoming album "Oblivion" which is set for the May 28th release via Nightmare Records, was mixed by Brett Caldas Lima and Mauricio Bustamante. The artwork was designed by Christophe Dessaigne (Star One, The Walking Dead book).

On his work with Exxiles, Mauricio Bustamante commented: "This production reflects how sometimes we are exile in life by simple or great things when we are betrayed by something we believed in. At the end there is only one result, abandonment. With pain... with anger... with passion, you discover that you learn how to rise, to liberate and fight for the things you believe in once again. At that moment the exile transforms into something that makes you stronger while you leave it behind, to keep walking towards another kind of exile.

"'Oblivion' is the first part of a trilogy; it will be a cinematic conceptual album and it will talk about loyalty. Loyalty should be a symbol of friendship, politics, religion, love... With lot's of stories that in the end will all have the same direction... to become one. It will show how loyalty becomes weak when personal interests are involved, and in sacrificing a dreamers dreams in order to achieve power, neither side wins. The ultimate dream was lost but not the hope!"

Exxiles' "Oblivion" will be released on May 28th on Nightmare Records. The album trailer, as well as the videos from the recording sessions for "The Walker" (featuring Wilmer Waarbroek) and "Llorona" (featuring Marcela Bovio) can be seen below.

Cosmonauts day - legendary progressive metal virtuosos come back with new epic grind track

Cosmonauts day - legendary progressive/ (used to be) post metal band from Moscow, Russia after two years of downtime returns with earbleeding new single "The Clerkxorcist". Although it is just a demo single from upcoming full length this song opens whole new grindcore chapter for the band, that was highly anticipated by music critics and bloggers worldwide for their previous releases.

Probably the best way to describe Paths Of The Restless would be Crack The Skye minus the annoying Ozzyisms. Top notch progressive post-metal minus the wanky-ness and shitty vocals. (c) Corey Mitchell metalsucks.net

It was like driving 10 KMH on a side street and then getting smashed by a train (c) isthisrevoltionary.com

The Clerkxorcist is a punishing anthem for everyone who is pissed off and ready to get the flamethrower to burn down everything.*

Prog Ensemble Exovex Releases Debut Album “Radio Silence” Featuring Members of Porcupine Tree, NIN, Devo, Sting & Steely Dan

Greenville, SC – The Prog community is buzzing with excitement about the new release by progressive rock ensemble Exovex featuring members of Porcupine Tree, NIN, Devo, Sting & Steely Dan!  Radio Silence is the project's debut album and features Josh Freese (NIN, A Perfect Circle, Devo) and Keith Carlock (Sting, John Meyer, Steely Dan) on drums. The album also showcases two members of Porcupine Tree, Gavin Harrison on drums and Richard Barbieri on keyboards and synthesizers. All songs on the album were written, performed and produced by songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Dale Simmons.

Two and half years in the making Radio Silence was completed in February of this year. The album's musical style reflects progressive rock icons of the past while staying firmly rooted in the modern art rock genre. There is a broad range of influences in the music, but echoes of Pink Floyd and David Gilmour can be heard in several of the album's tracks. The cover of the album features stunning works of art by Babak Tafreshi, an award winning photographer working with National Geographic, Sky&Telescope Magazine, and the European Southern Observatory.

Says Simmons about the concept behind the album, "The central theme of the album focuses on the downward spiral and ultimate demise of a man due to the psychological and physical effects of a long term, self-imposed isolation. The songs on the album are a sequence of events, which document his thought processes and eventual deterioration. They are snapshots in time that speak to personal circumstances that drive us to make life-changing decisions...both good and bad. The central figure in the story chooses a solitary life in a remote location only to find that he is unable to come back when he realizes his needs are still unfulfilled by his seclusion. Although the storyline of Radio Silence is set in the near future, it is roughly based on the life events of Sibond Alleman, a recluse, who lived in residence at Chateau d'Uriage in 14th century France. A great deal of the emotional content and lyrics for the album comes from my time spent as an expatriate in Europe and living in Chateau d'Uriage."

In regards to the guest artists, Simmons explains, "In each case, I asked the guys to do whatever they thought would best serve the song, I gave them complete creative control over their contributions to the recording. These musicians are amazing artists, and I don't think they would have delivered the great performances that they did had I tried to control the process more. That unknown creative variable was critical for me because it made the effort a true collaboration. Chance, chaos and the unknown can produce beautiful results if you can just let it happen. That's more difficult than it sounds".

Radio Silence has an approximate running time of 44 minutes and was mixed by multi-platinum award winning mixing engineer Steve Hardy. The album was mastered by Andy VanDette, at Engine Room Audio, in New York. Andy's mastering credits are too numerous to list here, but they include David Bowie, Deep Purple, Rush, Beastie Boys, Porcupine Tree (In Absentia and Deadwing) as well as Steven Wilson's first solo project Insurgentes.

About the Exovex sound, Simmons comments, "I have a broad range of influences with great appreciation for the work of artists like Steven Wilson, Peter Gabriel and David Gilmour. There are certainly degrees of influence by those artists in my music…some greater than others". Simmons is particularly influenced by the progressive rock icon Pink Floyd and reverently reflects Gilmouresque melody and phrasing as a guitarist. As singer, songwriter, guitarist and front man for several bands since the early nineties, Simmons covered a wide spectrum of musical genres ranging from progressive art rock to jazz and funk.

The concept of an "unknown creative variable" led Simmons to conceive the name Exovex. A known function in mathematics can be written as f(x) (pronounced "F of X"). In the f(x) scenario, you know exactly what will happen to the resulting number because that function (f) is defined. On the other hand, if you have x(x) (pronounced "X of X" or "Exovex") you are dealing with an unknown function (x) so you have no idea what the resulting output will be.

The Exovex debut album Radio Silence was released in March 2015 on iTunes and BitTorrent as a downloadable Bundle. A special limited CD edition is now available exclusively through www.exovex.com.

Anubis - BEHIND OUR EYES - Out Now!

Behind Our Eyes (Live, 2014) cover art
Our new live CD, Behind our Eyes has been released today. The original intention was to release it as a download only, but after a number of emails and messages from our fan base, we agreed to do a limited release of it on CD.

Only 500 copies have been pressed, and over half of those have been preordered, leaving us with less than 200 of the CD copies left. The CDs, and indeed the download are still available fromhere.

We've included a free download of the 9 minute set opener 'Partitionists' as a free gift, if you've not yet heard it. Who doesn't like free prog?

We sincerely appreciate everyone who preordered the album. They've already started leaving us and should all be in the post by the end of this week. It's the biggest number of preorders we've ever had and it's more than we expected. All proceeds go to funding our shows in Europe in May, and we're really grateful for that.

UPCOMING CONCERTS

Our last show in Sydney for a while is on Saturday night at the Factory Theatre. We're playing the Factory Floor, which is the downstairs venue with our friends AlithiA, fellow Bird's RobersShanghai and Mandala. The set will include a few lesser-played tracks and one we've never played before, and is a great warm up for next month's European shows.

Tickets are still available for Germany's Prog the Castle Festival in Heidelberg. We're closing the show on Saturday May 9th with a big set that includes massive chunks of all three albums. Also appearing are RWPL, Also Eden, Neverdream, Elora, Argos, Effloresce, Crystal Palace,Tramhaus and Anivision.

The following weekend - Friday May 15th - we are performing at the wonderful Cultuurpodium Boederij in Zoetermeer, Netherlands. This is an incredible venue and a bit of a dream for the band as it's been the stamping ground of some of the world's best prog bands. We never expected to make it there.

Finally, we have one more European show up our sleeve, which we hope to announce very soon. Without giving too much away, it's a date which has great significance to three of the band members. It will be on Saturday May 16th, and it'll be in the UK. Save the date, UK fans. More news to follow.

We initially hoped to be able to do a more extensive tour, but were limited by time and budget. Hopefully though, it won't be long before we come back and do it all again.

BOOTLEG SERIES

Whilst we were going through some old drives, we came across a whole heap of interesting things that we were thinking of making available as a download for anyone who was interested. Amongst those were the earliest demos of material from the 'A Tower of Silence' album and the original demo that David and Robert submitted to the band of the album in near-complete form.

Whilst the sound quality is by no means CD quality (never really meant to be heard by anyone other than us), ongoing interest in the 'A Tower of Silence' album does mean we're considering making a very interesting work-in-progress version of the album available for the completionists.

Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree, King Crimson) talks "Cheating the Polygraph" on the Kscope Podcast

A Cheating the Polygraph album trailer can be seen on YouTube at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJCPiNby-DY  and Vimeo at: https://vimeo.com/117829686.

A Q&A video with Gavin Harrison discussing his sparkling new solo album can be seen on YouTube at:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvaBZfsVcY0 and Vimeo at: https://vimeo.com/119972906. Acclaimed British jazz musician, Laurence Cottle, joins Harrison to explain the process behind their reimagining of such Porcupine Tree gems as "Heart Attack in a Layby," "Start of Something Beautiful," "What Happens Now?" and more.

1.      What Happens Now?
2.      Sound of Muzak/So Called Friend
3.      The Start of Something Beautiful
4.      Heart Attack in a Layby/The Creator Had a Mastertape/Surfer
5.      The Pills I'm Taking (from Anesthetize)
6.      Hatesong/Halo
7.      Cheating the Polygraph/Mother & Child Divided
8.      Futile

Cheating the Polygraph is an ambitious project which sees the restlessly creative Harrison reimagine eight Porcupine Tree songs in a set of vivid and vibrant new arrangements that give full, free rein to his inquiring musical mind.

The tracks which comprise the album were recorded over a five-year period, with Harrison working in conjunction with a crew of some of the finest contemporary musicians, including the gifted saxophonist Nigel Hitchcock along with bassist Laurence Cottle. It's a set that will no doubt excite much controversy; Harrison's use of the 'Big Band' musical sound stage isn't some ersatz attempt to make a 'Swing' album; it's closer in execution and arrangement to the innovative works of Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention - a layered, richly-textured selection that is both beautifully-recorded and incisively delivered.

"I think every album needs a focus - a master plan - and whilst I thought about writing new tunes for a big band project, I made a version of Porcupine Tree's 'Futile' (with Laurence Cottle) and it came out really well," commented Harrison. "It felt like a good plan to follow on with some of my personal favorite PT songs and see if we could make them work. I had a vision that the arrangements would never lean towards a clichéd classic big band sound, but always follow a modern contemporary angle. So even if you didn't know the original tune, you could still enjoy it as a modern composition that would work with this instrumentation. I couldn't be happier with the results. Laurence Cottle's immense talent as a musician and arranger was mind blowing."

No respecter of arbitrary musical pigeonholing, Harrison doesn't so much ignore genre confines as smash right through them - Harrison states in his thoughtful liner notes: "It's very important to me to push the boundaries of music whilst respecting what came before. In the arrangements of these pieces we really get 'out there' with some of the harmonies and rhythms, and we vastly extended the edges of the original compositions."

Harrison also drops little musical depth bombs throughout by interpolating shards of melody and musical themes from other Porcupine Tree songs seamlessly into the musical patina of Cheating the Polygraph, which serve to underscore his frontiersman spirit; this is some of the most enthralling, engaging and challenging music you'll hear in 2015, but there is also wit and charm in abundance here, too.

Gavin Harrison currently finds himself working with British progressive rock group, King Crimson. His playing and performing résumé includes stints with artists as varied as Iggy Pop, Lewis Taylor, Manfred Mann and Kevin Ayers.

Stay tuned for more information on Gavin Harrison and Cheating the Polygraph, out this month on Kscope.

PROGRESSIVE ROCK & PROGRESSIVE METAL - E-ZINE - Recommends

YUKA & CHRONOSHIP - "Dino Rocket Oxygen"
YUKA & CHRONOSHIP is formed in 2009 by keyboardist, vocalist and composer Yuka FUNAKOSHI, along with three leading studio musicians: bassist Shun TAGUCHI, guitarist Takashi MIYAZAWA and drummer Ikko TANAKA.  Highly reminiscent of late Seventies Progressive rock, the sound of the band is reputed for its philosophical depth, lyrical brilliance, and technical virtuosity. YUKA & CHRONOSHIP has released two albums so far.  The debut album "Water Reincarnation" (Musea in FRANCE, 2011) depicts such an ever-recurring water cycle.  Two years later, the Japanese band strikes back with "Dino Rocket Oxygen" (Musea Parallèle, 2013): illustrated by a logo designed by none other than Roger DEAN, this fantastic second album offers three philosophical epics and mixes symphonic rock, jazz-rock, new-age and ethnic music. YUKA & CHRONOSHIP had perform at the Prog'Sud 2013 (France) and the Crescendo Festival 2014 (France), and it has been decided to appear in 2Days Prog +1 2015 / Veruno Prog Fes in September 2015 in Italy.  Moreover, YUKA & CHRONOSHIP will make their British debut with the 3rd forthcoming album in 2015 via distributor Cherry Red Records Ltd. in the U.K.

Cliff Evans, TANK's guitarist, comments the album: "'Valley of Tears' will be our first album release  featuring the amazing vocal talents of former Dragonforce frontman ZP Theart and marks a new era for the band. He's injected so much new energy and inspiration into the band since joining us in 2013 as part of our touring line up for shows in South America, Europe and the US. Now it's time to capture this sound on our new record 'Valley of Tears' which is scheduled for release in June 2015. To complement ZP's vocals we now have one of the best rhythm sections in metal: Bobby Schottkowski, formerly drumming with Sodom and current Blind Guardian member - Barend Courbois on bass. Together with Mick Tucker and myself on guitars we're ready to take another big step forward in the evolution of TANK and make another metal album of great quality that will surely stand the test of time.
Our last two releases 'War Machine' and 'War Nation' (Metal Mind Productions) were two of our bestselling albums and featured amazing performances from former Rainbow/Malmsteen and current Schenker vocalist - Doogie White. Now it's time to move on to the next chapter. 'Valley of Tears' is heading in a much heavier direction and as always will be driven to the max by our trademark Gibson Les Paul/Marshall stack wall of sound. Production will be handled once again by upcoming mega-producer Phil Kinman."

The cruise was such a great experience and we highly recommend booking yourself on the boat for next year. We're really looking forward to getting back out on tour next month when we play our first Italian dates since 2010. We'll be playing some songs from the new album plus a great selection of TANK classics. For more tour info go to www.tankofficial.com"

Arena to record a new DVD release!

Arena – neo-prog-rock giants founded in 1995 by two celebrities of the scene: Mick Pointer (ex-Marillion) and Clive Nolan (Pendragon, Shadowland, Strangers on A Train, Caamora). Together with guitarist John Mitchell (Frost*), bassist Kylan Amos, and with the  charismatic Paul Manzi (Oliver Wakeman Band) on the vocals, the band return with a brand new studio album "The Unquiet Sky".

The release of their eighth studio album will be followed by a tour scheduled for March and April. For the list of gigs go HERE.

Clive Nolan comments: "2015 marks the 20th anniversary of Arena, and we are planning a substantial tour to celebrate this event. To coincide with this tour we are releasing a new studio album. It will be a concept album loosely based on an M.R. James horror story, with plenty of strong themes and dark drama… Pure, classic Arena!"

During the Polish leg of the tour the band will record their new DVD release. Clive Nolan: "The Arena 'Unquiet Sky Tour' is approaching fast and one of the highlights of these concerts will be the DVD show at the Rialto in Katowice on 9th April. We are promoting the new album as well as celebrating 20 years of Arena… it's going to be quite a set list representing all our albums along the way, and maybe a few surprises..;) Don't miss this chance to be a part of this little bit of history!"

In Katowice, Arena will be supported by the Dutch progressive rock band Knight Area. Their show will be also recorded for their first official DVD release! The band play rock music, with roots in symphonic and neo-progressive rock. The music blends a variety of styles using very melodic keyboards and guitars and the dynamic songs vary from ballads to more rock and metal kind of music.

The Tangent launch lyric video for 'San Francisco'

Following the release of the title track from The Tangent's forthcoming new album 'A Spark In The Aether - The Music That Died Alone Volume Two', due out on April 20th, 2015 in Europe and April 21st, 2015 in the US, they are now pleased to reveal a lyric video for the track 'San Francisco', which sees The Tangent moving slightly outside the familiar surroundings of Progressive Rock.

Band leader Andy Tillison had this to say about the song:
"It is part of a long piece about the way we view America from other parts of the world, and as such some of the music is reflective of the subject matter. Highly inspired by the TV theme tunes of the 1970s with shows like "The Streets Of San Francisco", "Kojak" & films such as "Shaft" and "Bullit" - this song takes an affectionate, tongue-in-cheek look at the sheer number of times San Francisco has been destroyed on-screen. It also pays homage to the Oakland (a bay area city close to San Fran) band "Tower Of Power".

Tillison further comments:
"Funk and Prog are like two estranged sisters. They existed side by side in the early seventies. Both musical forms relied on precision musicianship. Both forms embraced the emerging synthesizer technology. Earth Wind & Fire's albums sleeves sometimes featured fantasy artwork with pyramids and sphnixes, Osibisa even used Roger Dean for their sleeves. Yes & EWF both toured with huge stage sets and effects that could have been describes as "similar" in concept. Anyone who is into 70s progressive rock bands must have experienced the funk stuff as part of their musical soundtrack. Where there was a Zappa, there was a Bootsy, where there was a Daevid there was a George Clinton. I think that if it had all happened now, the two racially segregated forms might have been closer to one another. Although in this video you only meet one of the sisters... the overall result of the song itself is, hopefully, to bring these forms a little closer together."

You can check out the video for 'San Francisco' here:

They also recently launched a promo video for the title track of the album,
which you can view here:

Twelve years, eight studio albums, two live DVDs and tours that have taken them from Moscow to Quebec. Now one of the most enduring third wave progressive rock bands on the scene returns - a band that has never made an album using the same personnel as the previous album. In fact, the same line-up has (to date) never been used twice.

But there are regulars. And some of the favourite regulars are back for the 8th album: Flower Kings bass legend Jonas Reingold; the ever-faithful and gifted Theo Travis, familiar to many from his work with the Steven Wilson band, Gong and Robert Fripp, with his arsenal of wind textures from saxophones to flutes; and the return to the fold of the amazingly talented Luke Machin, a guitar hero for a new generation who can even wow the old generations (and who also fronts his own band, Maschine).
And of course there's band leader Andy Tillison (keyboards and vocals), the only member of the band to have played on all the records.

This team is joined by Morgan Ågren, Swedish drumming phenomenon who can even count Frank Zappa among his previous jobs (others include, but not limited to, Kaipa, Devin Townsend, and his own acclaimed Mats/Morgan Band). Morgan introduces to The Tangent a real live energy full of inspiration and eccentricity.

The new album is a Rock Album. It's a Prog album. It's a Funky album. It's a Pop album. It's the Eighth Tangent album.

Mr. Pollack – making of "Stand Up And Run" video

They've already played shows in China, USA, Germany, Belgium and in the United Arab Emirates. Nigel Kennedy and Grzegorz Skawiński are among their fans and the band's musicians themselves are considered the best instrumentalists in their respective fields. Jacek Polak was dubbed the "Paganini of the guitar" by the media, while the drummer Grzegorz Polak is the winner of numerous competitions and drummer of the year awards in the press.
The band Mr. Pollack has teamed recently with Metal Mind Productions, which will result in the official release of the album "Black Hawk" on the May, 25th in Europe and June, 9th in USA (via MVD).

In THIS location you can check photos from the set of their new video to the track "Stand Up And Run". The video will be published on Metal Mind Productions' YouTube channel on this coming Thursday (April, 2nd).

Mr. Pollack consists of two brothers - Jacek (guitar) and Grzegorz Polak (drums) - and Bartłomiej Filip (bass), who started their musical career in a choir. After a dozen-odd years, they formed a rock band and, in 1990, recorded their first album "QŃ". Jacek Polak showed his outstanding guitar technique on that album and was subsequently called one of the best Polish guitarists. The band went on to record a number of albums, including - to their fans' great surprise - one album comprising rock versions of classical compositions ("Air on 6 Strings" released in 2000, featuring, among others, compositions by Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, and Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee"). The CD was very popular and won Jacek the title of the "Paganini of the guitar". The band played shows all over the world, while the musicians themselves won a number of awards. In 1997, Jacek was voted Poland's new guitar hope in "Gitara i Bas" magazine and, in 2002, he won "The Greatest Undiscovered Guitar Talent" award in the USA. In 2011, Grzegorz won the 3rd place at the international drum festival "Drum Off" organized by Melody House Instruments. The "Black Hawk" album was already promoted during the band's Chinese tour. It features a guest appearance by Grzegorz Skawiński and it was also promoted by a video for the title song, which won the second award at the music video festival in Barcelona. You can check the video in this location.
