Nad Sylvan launches 'The Quartermaster'; first single from new album 'The Bride Said No'

Nad Sylvan, vocalist with Steve Hackett and Agents Of Mercy, has announced the release of his new solo album 'The Bride Said No' for May 26th, 2017. The album sees Nad joined by a myriad of guests including Roine Stolt, Steve Hackett, Guthrie Govan, Tony Levin, Jonas Reingold, Nick D'Virgilio, Doane Perry & more. Now he is pleased to reveal the first single taken from the album, and you can listen to 'The Quartermaster' here:

Nad comments: "Apart from the Vampirate, the widow that turns into a bride again, the ship's cat and the martyr - I felt it was time introduce a new character - namely the self-proclaimed Quartermaster, who pilots the ship into new waters, eventually landing on a desert island."

The album is available on special edition CD digipak, gatefold 2LP vinyl + CD & digital download. Pre-order digitally at iTunes & Amazon MP3 from tomorrow and receive 'The Quartermaster' immediately.

The full track-listing for the album is as follows:
1.     Bridesmaids
2.     The Quartermaster
3.     When The Music Dies
4.     The White Crown
5.     What Have You Done
6.     Crime Of Passion
7.     A French Kiss In An Italian Café
8.     The Bride Said No

In 2015, Nad Sylan impressed everyone with his fine conceptual solo album 'Courting The Widow'. A vampiric tale wrapped in a 17th century atmosphere, this definitively marked out the talented Swede as a surging star in the progressive rock world.

Now, Sylvan is back with 'The Bride Said No', an album that continues the fascinating plot, albeit with a far more extravagant musical palette. "I didn't originally have the idea of going on with this story on the new album. But what happened was that I revisited a song called 'The Bride Said No', which I began to write in 1989. I kept a few of the early ideas I had for the verses and also that title, but the rest of the song is brand new. However, the title itself got me thinking that it made sense if this were used in relation to the vampirate character from 'Courting The Widow'. And the whole thing developed from there."

On the creative side, what the new album does is to expand Sylvan's horizons, as he explains. "Musically, the previous record was very much located in the 1970s, and you can still hear a little of that here. But this one is a lot more modern sounding and diverse. In fact, I would say it's closer to musical theatre than anything else."

'The Bride Said No' takes what Sylvan has done before and elevates it with a new creative sensibility. He has plans for a final chronicle of this 'vampirate' trilogy. But that's for the future. Right now, we can all revel in the delights of this eight track masterpiece.
"I set out to take things even further than before. I believe I have succeeded."

Nad has most recently been seen performing alongside the legendary Steve Hackett as part of his Genesis Revisited with Classic Hackett tour, which continues across the world during 2017.

Look out for more info in the coming weeks.

The band recently reissued their first two albums 'Aquarius' and 'Visions' as brand new remastered editions.
Buy limited colored vinyl and the 2CD digipak here:

Vocalist Ross Jennings commented on the releases: "As advocates of the physical format and fellow record collectors, it seems almost criminal that our first two albums have never had a vinyl release until now, so we are thrilled to finally give these albums a fresh presentation on the format they deserve. We have taken this opportunity to polish the sound of our beloved concept albums without going back over every little detail and rewriting history. In essence we wanted to give these albums a chance to stand shoulder to shoulder in sonic quality with "The Mountain" and "Affinity". In addition to this and due to popular demand, both releases will also be available again on CD with instrumental, or "Karaoke" versions of every track. This release marks 10 years since we formed the band and started putting together our first demos so it's a perfect time to reflect on these releases and appreciate what we've achieved so far.

The "Aquarius" concept was drawn from conversations about our favourite albums and the way in which the songs flow that make those particular records work. This lead to ideas about having our album be about the flow or journey of water from mountain spring to oceans and evaporation, which in turn lead on to a deeper concept about human life and reincarnation. The themes of water helped us to create aqueous soundscapes and as the music and lyrics started coming together a narrative was formed in the shape of Mermaids & natural disasters. "Aquarius" will always have a special place in our hearts. It's where our journey really began.

When writing for "Visions" came around, we set about the process with the same formula, although we hadn't set out to write another concept album at the time. As themes found themselves recurring in the music it only felt right to go in the narrative direction, although this time around we drew from our science fiction influences such as Minority Report and 12 Monkeys and was inspired by real recurring dreams I had been having around the time. It's always a joy to revisit these tracks in our live sets, so much so that we will be performing it in its entirety later this year at ProgPower USA, Atlanta!"

Newly remastered by the renowned Jens Bogren (Devin Townsend Project, Between the Buried & Me) both are available as 2CD Digipaks, digital album including the entire albums as instrumentals, and on vinyl, arriving as Gatefold heavyweight 2LP editions with the full album on CD included.

Latest album 'Affinity' was released in April this year, and received great reactions from press; find a selection of them below:

"dextrous prog metal with retro pizzazz and roller-coaster riffs" - PROG Magazine
"Affinity proves what a unique and spellbinding band Haken are" - Metal Hammer 8/10
"inescapable melodic hooks and absorbing textures" - Total Guitar 4/5
"Affinity will be hailed as one of the landmarks of 2016 and beyond."- Powerplay 9/10

Jim Matheos announces debut album from Tuesday The Sky!

Jim Matheos, founding guitarist of legendary US progressive metallers Fates Warning, has announced the release of the debut album from his new Ambient Instrumental Rock project Tuesday The Sky. The first full-length album 'Drift' is set for release on June 30th, 2017, and sees Matheos expanding the boundaries of his sound ever further.

Drift came together in the downtime between Fates Warning finishing Theories of Flight and the beginning of the touring cycle, enabling Matheos to explore a type of atmospheric and instrumental music you might not expect of him. He comments: "With this kind of music, it's a lot about creating a mood and letting that sink in and develop over long periods of time, as opposed to the more frenetic format of most prog music." Taking cues from artists like Brian Eno, Boards Of Canada, Sigur Ros and Explosions In The Sky, he explores expansive textures and ambient electronica, as well as some of the most colossal riffs he has ever produced.

The album also features the talents of God Is An Astronaut's drummer Lloyd Hanney, who provides a rhythmic backbone that is at once punchy, precise and restrained when necessary. Other guests include long-time OSI collaborator and former Dream Theater member Kevin Moore who plays keys on two songs as well as Anna-Lynne Williams (Trespassers William, Lotte Kestner), who provides ethereal vocals (of the non-verbal kind) on two other songs.

What the future of this project holds and whether it will be taken out on the road is yet to be seen. Matheos comments: "It would be a challenge to bring this project but it is an interesting idea and one I would at least consider if there seems to be enough interest." What is sure though, is that Tuesday The Sky's debut is a bold, brave, creative and ultimately successful album from one of rock's most underrated of musicians.

The album will be released as special edition CD, black LP + CD & digital download.
Further details will be revealed soon.

In 2016, Jim Matheos released his 12th studio album with pioneering progressive metal band Fates Warning, titled 'Theories of Flight', and 2017 has seen them touring the US & Europe in support of that album. Lonely Robot reveal 'Sigma'; second track from new album 'The Big Dream'

Lonely Robot, the project masterminded by producer, guitarist and singer/songwriter John Mitchell (It Bites, Frost*, Arena), are set to release their much-anticipated second studio album 'The Big Dream' on April 28th, 2017. Today they launch a stream of the second single taken from the album, 'Sigma', which you can listen to here: https://youtu.be/y3rolatG5sE

John had this to say about the track: 'Sigma is the very last track I recorded for The Big Dream, the nature of which can be summed up with a sadly age old proverb which resonates now more than ever; "History will teach us nothing".'

The track will be available on all good streaming services from tomorrow (14th April), and will also be included as an instant grat on iTunes & Amazon MP3. Pre-order the album on all formats, including special edition digipak CD (including 3 bonus tracks), gatefold 2LP + CD, and digital download here: http://smarturl.it/LonelyRobotTBD

An official video for the album's first single 'Everglow' was also recently launched and you can watch that here: https://youtu.be/onTjlbuKZxo

Watch John Mitchell discuss how Lonely Robot came together, as well as the new album, in a series of interview clips here: https://youtu.be/1IZTy0l1CRw

Following 2015's acclaimed debut 'Please Come Home', 'The Big Dream' has a core theme running through it - one that sees The Astronaut, the central character in the Lonely Robot adventure, emerging from a long period in stasis.

Mitchell explains: "The Astronaut wakes up from a cryogenic sleep but finds he's no longer in space, and is instead in a woodland area surrounded by a group of strange people with animal heads! It's a little surreal, a little 'Midsummer Night's Dream' to some extent. This is something of a solipsistic haze, for want of a better description!"

Mitchell explains more about his Lonely Robot concept: "I have always envisaged the storyline of The Astronaut's journey evolving over the course of three albums. And I always knew where I wanted to go with the second album - taking The Astronaut away from space and into a strange and unfamiliar environment. Right now, I have no thoughts of what will happen for the third one but I'd better start thinking about it now!"

"The key inspiration for Lonely Robot comes from my love of science fiction films, and the atmospheric soundtracks that often accompany them - such as Alan Silvestri's compositions for 'Contact' and Clint Mansell's work for 'Moon'."

The album once again features drums by Craig Blundell (Steven Wilson), with all other instrumentation on the album delivered by Mitchell himself.

'The Big Dream' will be available as a special edition digipak CD (including 3 bonus tracks), gatefold 2LP + CD & digital download.

Pre-order the album from here:

The track-listing is as follows:
1.     Prologue (Deep Sleep)
2.     Awakenings
3.     Sigma
4.     In Floral Green
5.     Everglow
6.     False Lights
7.     Symbolic
8.     The Divine Art Of Being
9.     The Big Dream
10.  Hello World Goodbye
11.  Epilogue (Sea Beams)

Bonus Tracks:
12.  In Floral Green (Acoustic Version)
13.  The Divine Art Of Being (Acoustic Version)
14.  Why Do We Stay? (feat. Kim Seviour)

At the end of 2015, Lonely Robot played a triumphant show at The Scala in London, and Mitchell wants to play further live dates in 2017, with a few already confirmed. "The only condition is that I want them all to be special; and now we have two albums of material from which to choose the set."

Lonely Robot will be brought to life on stage with Craig Blundell on drums, Steve Vantsis on bass & Liam Holmes on keyboards (pictured above). The following dates are currently confirmed:

Thu, April 27 - Sub89, Reading, UK (album launch show)
Fri, April 28 - Marillion Convention, Leicester, UK
Sat, May 27- Trinity Live, Assembly Rooms, Leamington Spa, UK

Lonely Robot's debut album Please Come Home received fantastic reviews upon release, with Prog calling it "one mighty statement of intent" and Fireworks stating it's "one of the finest pieces of Prog Pop".

From Mountains, post-rock band from UK is to release the debut EP

FROM MOUNTAINS: "From Mountains"

From Mountains are a post-rock band from Buckinghamshire, UK,  coming with soaring guitars, delicately melodic piano and a driving  rhythm section. Drawing in from a wide range of influences "From  Mountains" create a sound that can be fragile in one moment and  sonically mesmerising & beautifully chaotic the next and all  accomplished with what would be considered basic 'rock & roll'  instruments. The self-titled release on Fluttery Records ebbs & flows perfectly through each of the 5 tracks, with melodic swells, subtle changes and at times emotional builds followed by crashing tear downs. The 31-minute EP is an exceptional debut from a band that seem to have comfortably found their unique sound in a busy post-rock scene.

FIRST BAND ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR PROGDAY 2017!

ProgDay is pleased to announce our first bands for 2017:

• FLOR DE LOTO

"Flor De Loto has continued to grow as a musical entity, which means
that thanks to them, Peru's progressive scene remains an interesting
point of reference regarding the healthy state of the affairs for
current progressive rock around the globe."
- Cesar Inca, Progarchives.com

Hailing from Lima, Peru, FLOR DE LOTO began in 1998. However it was
years later before the band released their eponymous debut. Taking
more than six months to record, Flor De Loto was a great success and
is regarded by many as one of the best Latin American prog albums of
2005. Since then, the band has become the most well-known proponent of
progressive rock from Peru. Often compared to Jethro Tull because of
their flute/rock mix, their style also encompasses fusion, psyche,
metal, folk (particularly Andean folk music) and film music.

ProgDay is happy to present FLOR DE LOTO for their first performance
in the United States.

• SONAR

"…a revolutionary shot across the bow for what we might consider to be
the possibilities of modern day guitar music... With so many forms of
contemporary music seemingly satisfied to simply regurgitate weary and
weathered tropes, Sonar has defied the norm by crafting something
singular and magical."
- Jeff Miers,The Buffalo News

SONAR is a avant-progressive, post-minimal band from Switzerland.
Fusing an exacting minimal esthetic with the power of a rock band,
SONAR creates sonic rituals unlike anything you have ever heard
before. While pointing to King Crimson, the compositional precision of
Nik Bärtsch, and minimalist composer Steve Reich as some of the band's
more obvious touchstones, the music comes out of the gate sounding
like none of them. At a time when most guitarists are measured in
notes per second, SONAR is, instead, the meeting place of rigorously
considered writing, collective restraint, and a sound instantly
recognizable as much for what is not there as for what is.

The band's new release, Vortex, produced by David Torn, is scheduled
to be available at ProgDay 2017.

• INFiNiEN

"Light at the Endless Tunnel takes the listener into a wide-range of
directions, blending the familiar with unexpected Middle Eastern
elements, Indian vocal percussion, soul and lots more. The band
features extremely talented musicians who showcase their talent with
looped guitars, creative bass lines, imaginative drum patters,
Ethiopian scales, spectacular guitar solos, exquisite keyboard
ambience, epic intensity, and Canterbury-ish keyboards... In other
words, state of the art progressive rock... Every year, there is at
least one progressive music act that stands out from the rest and
iNFiNiEN is undoubtedly one of the best. This is one of the
progressive rock gems of the past few months. Highly recommended."
- Angel Romero, ProgressiveRockCentral.com

Philadelphia-born iNFiNiEN combines eclectic musical personalities
into a visionary, unified force. Using rock, jazz, soul, world, and
classical influences, the band plays intricately composed songs with a
focus on the exploration of new territories of sound by using exotic
scales, chords, and rhythms. A centerpiece of the band's sound is the
expressive voice of Chrissie Loftus, whose evocative and emotional
vocals provide the lyrical glue that binds the widely-ranging
compositions together. The band has hit a new peak with their latest
release, Light At The Endless Tunnel, which found it's way onto many
"Best Of The Year" lists for 2016.

Join FLOR DE LOTO (Peru), SONAR (Switzerland) and iNFiNiEN (US) for
the twenty-third edition of ProgDay. ProgDay 2017 will take place on
Saturday and Sunday, September 2nd and 3rd, at Storybook Farm in
Chapel Hill, North Carolina. For more information, please visit us at
www.progday.net. ;

Arms Of Tripoli from LA is going to release "Daughters"

Based out of Los Angeles, CA and formed in July of 2011, Arms of Tripoli continues to be an ever-evolving and uniquely independent instrumental band. Arms of Tripoli has played regularly in the greater Los Angeles area, having garnered opening slots for the likes of Maserati, Felix Martin, Glaciers, Rob Crow's Gloomy Place, and A Minor Forest and earning the respect of the LA indie and post-rock community. Arms of Tripoli second full length album, Daughters, is truly a post-rock work of art. The dynamic layers of the songs slowly unspool, climatically ramping up to convulsions of euphoria inside the brain. The album is a beautiful reflection of the diverse and numerous influences which are apparent in each member's contribution to the collection of songs.Shades of many subgenres of progressive, post and math rock sprinkle the album with undertones of compelling influence which all congeal into a solid, substantial overall release for the band's sophomore LP; a very worthy follow-up to 2014's Dream in Tongues.
Fluttery Records is a home for post-rock, ambient, modern classical music since 2008.

2016 was truly a remarkable year for the BOX TOPS. After a six year hiatus, original founding members BILL CUNNINGHAM AND GARY TALLEY joined up with their former manager (and musician) RICK LEVY for exploratory rehearsals in Nashville. Buoyed by keys, drums, and horn section, THE BOX TOPS took to the road in January 2016, and played concerts up and down the East Coast and the Midwest. They  were the featured act at Las Vegas' Cannery Casino Summer Kickoff Concert, which had its biggest attendance ever.

Their authentic sound, contemporary look, and raves from audiences and promoters alike brought THE BOX TOPS to the attention of the producers of the HAPPY TOGETHER TOUR. Offered a featured and co-billing spot, they accepted. JOE SATRIANI'S G4 EXPERIENCE

4 DAYS OF GUITAR MAGIC WITH VERY SPECIAL GUESTS PHIL COLLEN, WARREN, DIMARTINI, & PAUL GILBERT

Plus Celebrating 30th Anniversary with Stu Hamm & Jonathan Mover

Los Angeles, CA (April 11, 2017) – JOE SATRIANI announces special guests Phil Collen [Def Leppard], Warren DiMartini [Ratt], and Paul Gilbert joining him for the 2017 G4 Experience: Surfing with the Alien 30th Anniversary. The event is July 24-28 at Asilomar Center in Carmel, CA.

About this year's camp, SATRIANI says, "I'm thrilled to have guitarists Phil Collen and Warren DiMartini joining Paul Gilbert and myself for this year's G4 camp. What an incredible lineup! Phil, Warren, and Paul are all virtuosos with a wide range of professional experience in the music world. Together, we look forward to sharing all of our musical knowledge with this year's G4 campers."

Phil Collen echoes that sentiment, saying, "I'm thrilled and honored to be joining Joe on the G4 experience and I'm stoked to get to play with him and to share some of my experiences with all the attendees "

For its fourth installment, the G4 Experience enjoys a game-changing and historic first. The camp will celebrate the writing, recording, and performance of SATRIANI's seminal GRAMMY Award-nominated, platinum-selling 1987 epic, Surfing with the Alien—one of the most successful instrumental guitar albums ever made. Recognizing the record's 30th anniversary, campers will enjoy the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to pull back the curtain on the album with the visionaries behind the music.

SATRIANI will be joined by longtime co-conspirator and Surfing with the Alien co-producer John Cuniberti in addition to other special guests. His original live band during the record's tour cycle, Stu Hamm and Jonathan Mover, return for the first time since 1995 for the evening's performances.

Weserbergland "Sehr Kosmisch" "Ganz Progisch"

"Sehr Kosmisch" "Ganz Progisch" by Weserbergland (Oslo, Norway) is an homage to the seventies krautrock scene seen through the eyes of Ketil Vestrum Einarsen. Ketil is a veteran flutist of the Norwegian Progrock scene, having been a part of White Willow for almost 20 years. He has also been a member of Jaga Jazzist and played on more than fifty albums, with bands like Motorpsycho and Geir Lysnes Listening Ensemble. As a composer, he has written music for 10 documentaries and one TV series (all of this together with Lars Fredrik Frøislie (Wobbler, White Willow etc))

"Sehr Kosmisch" "Ganz Progisch" is Ketils debut as a band leader. He has been a kraut rock enthusiast since he discovered the music through the record collection of his friend´s hippie father in the early 90s, so to take this musical turn was a very natural thing him. And it´s quite easy to hear the inspiration of bands like Tangerine Dream, Can, Cluster, Harmonia et cetera. But it´s not a retro sounding album, the sound is also influenced by Ketils former band, Jaga Jazzist and similar bands, and of course there´s a huge dose of 70s era progressive rock in there.

The result is a very unique and demanding album. The simplicity of krautrock is juxtaposed or mixed with a complete sensory overload of multitracking, heavy use of effects and compositional techniques from contemporary or classical music.

Ketil plays the flute, clarinet, guitar, keyboards and provides programming. Mattias Olsson of Änglagård fame provides a remimagined approach to the motoric beat thoughout the album, and Gaute Storsve and Jacob Holm-Lupo (White Willow) shares duties on bass and guitar. The album also features guest musicians from Jaga Jazzist, Wobbler, Henry Fool et cetera. The album was mixed and mastered by Jacob Holm-Lupo.

- Fans of both krautrock and instrumental rock
- Fans of Jaga Jazzist and similar bands will like this
- The musicians on the album are very experienced and acclaimed.
- The band plays their very first gig at the Close To Rain Festival in Bergen, 03/06/2017.

Line-up:
Ketil Vestrum Einarsen: Flute, Clarinet, Keyboads, guitars, programming
Gaute Storsve: Bass and guitar
Jacob Holm-Lupo: Bass and guitar
Mattias Olsson: Drums and percussion
Guest musicians: Lars Fredrik Frøislie, Stephen James Bennet, Tetsuroh Konishi, Lars Horntveth, Erik Johannessen, Brynjar Dambo, Roger Langvik, Einar Baldurson

Spock's Beard announce original member Nick D'Virgilio to play drums on next album!

Legendary Prog group Spock's Beard are back at work on the follow up to 2015's 'The Oblivion Particle'.  The band are now pleased to announce the return of original member Nick D'Virgilio on drums for the next album.  D'Virgilio played with the group on the recent Cruise to the Edge in Feb following the departure of drummer Jimmy Keegan.

The band had this to say about the D'Virgilio's return.

"Spock's Beard is super excited to announce that the amazing Nick D'Virgilio has agreed to play on our next album!

Nick of course is well known to SB fans as our former drummer/lead singer/all around awesome dude as well as for working with artists such as Genesis, Mike Keneally, Peter Gabriel and Big Big Train among others. Nick was with us when we first started and we are over the moon to have him back with us for this album! We know you'll be as excited as we are to hear what we will be able to create with him back pounding the skins. We've been writing new material and plan to start recording in earnest in late May, so stay tuned!"

D'Virgilio was the group's original drummer from 1995-2010 and was the band's lead singer for 4 albums from 2003-2010 before leaving the band.  Vocalist Ted Leonard and drummer Jimmy Keegan were brought into the band following his departure and recorded two albums with that lineup.

The band's 12th studio album 'The Oblivion Particle' was released in August 2015 on InsideOutMusic, and was a successful follow up to the band's 2013 release "Brief Nocturnes and Dreamless Sleep", and charted all over the world.

More info on the upcoming album to come.

Lonely Robot launches official video for 'Everglow'

Lonely Robot, the project masterminded by producer, guitarist and singer/songwriter John Mitchell (It Bites, Frost*, Arena), recently announced that their much-anticipated second studio album 'The Big Dream' will be released on April 28th, 2017. Today sees the launch of the official video for the track 'Everglow', directed by previous collaborator Lee Blackmore.

Watch it now on VEVO here:

John Mitchell had this to say: "Everglow is the first song I wrote for The Big Dream, and here is my ace pop video for it. It features what I call an anti-chorus...if you need to vindicate yourself on a public platform you're looking in the wrong place :)"

A series of interview clips were recently launched, where John Mitchell discusses how Lonely Robot came together, and the new album in detail. Watch the latest one here: https://youtu.be/1IZTy0l1CRw

The track-listing is as follows:

7.     Symbolic

Bonus Tracks:

Lonely Robot's debut album Please Come Home received fantastic reviews upon release, with Prog calling it "one mighty statement of intent" and Fireworks stating it's "one of the finest pieces of Prog Pop".

when a fresh, and in this case collective, creative spirit gets ahold
of timelessly great material." - Blogcritics

Rebeat Magazine writes, "Classical music fans will appreciate this
album for its ability to demonstrate the versatility and
respectability of Anderson's compositions outside of the rock world.
Hardcore Tull fans will also enjoy the album as it celebrates the
interesting blend of styles and eras that made Jethro Tull such an
interesting band."

Formed in 1968, Jethro Tull has released 30 studio and live albums,
selling more than 60 million copies worldwide. With nearly 50 years'
history, the band has performed more than 3,000 concerts in 40
