Rick Wakeman Launches Pre-Sale Campaign on PledgeMusic For “Crimes of Passion” Limited Edition Deluxe Box Set


London - Keyboard legend Rick Wakeman has launched a pre-sale campaign on PledgeMusic for a very special limited edition Deluxe Box Set of his soundtrack "Crime of Passion". 

Originally released in 1984 "Crimes of Passion" was directed by Ken Russell and starred Kathleen Turner, Anthony Perkins, John Laughlin and Annie Potts. The film explores themes of human relationships and mental illness. A mix of sex and suspense. 

"Working with Ken Russell was not only a highlight in my musical life but also a great learning time for me as well….Ken truly understood film and film music like no other. He knew what he wanted, but after telling you then expected you to take his ideas to another level.

For the first time in its 43-year history, the band is performing the hit album in its entirety. The tour showcases more than two hours of classic KANSAS music including hit songs, deep cuts, and new songs from their new album, The Prelude Implicit.
Based on incredible demand, dates have been confirmed for a final U.S. leg of the Leftoverture 40th Anniversary Tour across cities such as San Francisco, CA; San Diego, CA; Houston, TX; Minneapolis, MN; Topeka, KS; Champaign, IL; Wichita, KS; Knoxville, TN; Toledo, OH; Jacksonville, FL; and many more.

"We are having so much fun doing these Leftoverture 40th Anniversary shows, we just want to keep doing them," comments KANSAS guitarist and original member Richard Williams. "We had no idea when we started doing these, last fall, that they would be so popular. When we first started discussing this concept, we were just hoping to be able to do ten of these type shows. We would not have predicted we would end up doing nearly 70 of them. In 1976, KANSAS released the album Leftoverture. The album peaked at #5 on Billboard's Album charts and reached sextuple-platinum status with more than six million copies sold. They are performing the album in its entirety on this tour.

The Doors Guitar Legend Robby Krieger To Play Select US Dates!



The Doors guitar legend Robby Krieger will be playing select US dates beginning in April! A Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee (with The Doors), Krieger wrote or co-wrote many of the Doors' songs, including the hits "Light My Fire", "Love Me Two Times", "Touch Me", and "Love Her Madly". After the Doors disbanded, Krieger continued his performing and recording career with other musicians including former Doors band mates John Densmore and Ray Manzarek. Robby is listed by Rolling Stone as one of the greatest guitarists of all time!

Robert Alan Krieger, born January 8, 1946, in Los Angeles, is a musical performer and The Doors guitarist. He attended UCLA. "The first music I heard that I liked was Peter and the Wolf. I accidentally sat and broke the record (I was about seven). Then I listened to rock 'n' roll – I listened to the radio a lot – Fats Domino, Elvis, The Platters.

"There was lots of classical music in my house. My father liked march music. There was a piano at home. I studied trumpet at ten, but nothing came of it. Then I started playing blues on the piano? no lessons though. When I was fifteen, I started playing guitar. I used my friend's guitar. I didn't get my own until I was sixteen. It was a Mexican flamenco guitar. I took flamenco lessons for a few months. I switched around from folk to flamenco to blues to rock 'n' roll.

"Records got me into the blues. Some of the newer rock 'n' roll, such as the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. If it hadn't been for Butterfield going electric, I probably wouldn't have gone rock 'n' roll.

I didn't plan on rock 'n' roll. I wanted to learn jazz; I got to know some people doing rock 'n' roll with jazz, and I thought I could make money playing music. In rock 'n' roll you can realize anything that you can in jazz or anything. There's no limitation other than the beat. You have more freedom than you do in anything except jazz.

"In The Doors we have both musicians and poets, and both know of each other's art, so we can effect a synthesis. In the case of Tim Buckley or Dylan you have one man's ideas. Most groups today aren't groups. In a true group all the members create the arrangements among themselves."

Bjørn Riis and his new album Forever Comes to an End



Airbag co-founder, songwriter and lead guitarist, Bjørn Riis will release his second solo album, Forever Comes to an End, in May 2017. The album is the follow-up to the highly acclaimed and awarded debut, Lullabies in a Car Crash.
Forever Comes to an End feature seven songs, with inspiration from classic rock, prog and movie scores. Bjørn's unique guitar playing has a centre role, with soaring leads, heavy riffs and beautiful textures.
Lyrically, the album deals with broken relationships and loss and the emotional duality between resentment and forgiving.
 
The album is very much a tribute to all of Bjørn's musical influences. From the dark and dirty riffs of Toni Iommi and Zakk Wylde, to the emotional playing of David Gilmour and Steven Rothery. The melodic and sombre voice of Steven Wilson and Tim Bowness and the cinematic landscapes of composers like Thomas Newman and John Barry.
 
Forever Comes to an End feature appearances from Airbag's Henrik Fossum (drums) and Asle Tostrup (programming), Simen Valldal Johannessen from Oak (piano) and Norwegian singer, Sichelle Mcmeo Aksum (vocals).
 
Norwegian photographer Kjetil Karlsen, has provided the front cover image, taken in beautiful Beisfjord near Narvik in Northern Norway. Design and layout is by Asle Tostrup.

Craving Angel and their new album "Redemption"



Craving Angel was formed in 1984 By Scott Nelson aka Scott T. Schleen (Guitar), Joey Zimilich aka Joey Layte (bass) and Phill Coffman (Drums). The goal was to entertain with high energy cover tunes (AC/DC, Led Zep, UFO, etc) as well as establish original compositions. Craving Angel played the Minneapolis/St. Paul club circuit for six months with a female singer. To my knowledge she was terminated for reasons I cannot describe here. They continued to play for a couple years as a three piece and then I (Buddy Hughes) came along to fill the lead singer spot.

I immediately got us in the studio and produced our first demo with songs from the first CA CD with songs like Match the Power and Dark Horse. We continued to play and recorded a second demo and produced a video for the anthem Lust for Lust. What a great era in music. With the demo and video in hand, we headed west to LA. In 1988-1994, we played and ROCKED the sunset strip. The scene was great. Imagine a kaleidoscope of all the colors shapes and sizes of flyers from bands everywhere. From the whiskey a g0-g0 to Gazzarri's the streets were paved with them and people everywhere and ready to party.

Party we did. Playing clubs like the aforementioned along with The Troubadour, The Roxy, Filthy McNasty's (FM Station), Metal House and on and on. It was probably the best time of my life and the other's as we lived, breathed and played music. We did a lot of recording Scott and I. At one point changing the name to Straight Jacket after a falling out with the rhythm section.

We received great reviews in Music Connection and we were offered contracts. Capital records, Geffen loved the Tune Craving Angel as I entertained and talked with them trying to get a deal.  between the sex, drugs and music at one point firing a bass player because he wouldn't sign the deal with Statue Records. Scott and I parted for a while. I headed back to Minneapolis to connect with family and the music scene back home.

Eventually Scott did the same thing. I compiled The music we recorded during 1986-1994 and secured a distribution deal with Minotauro Records. They were looking to re-release the" Dungeon Fortress of Rock" record. I couldn't secure it with the members of Dungeon so Scott and I worked on the material for Craving Angel and was released in 2014. It is great working with Glenn and Marko, much thanks you fucking ROCK!!!! The album is still selling and getting great reviews and you can get it just about anywhere. Minotauro wanted another album. I met with Scott again and hooked up with Erick Wright. Erick is a great musician and friend and just happened to have a studio using a Windows based app called Reaper. Unfortunately, when Scott was doing some plumbing work he smashed his guitar finger. It never healed right and he had to have surgery. Between that and his family and work obligations we never got it together.

Timing, timing, timing. Insert Jimmy Cassidy (Guitar). Jimmy and I had worked together in a band called Ripface. We connected again and this man is a writing machine. Bringing to my attention that he had a few albums of material. We wasted no time. We had tried out a few drummers. We worked with one guy and he never showed up to record. His mother was always sick and he needed to drive her to the Dr. coincidentally every time there was a session booked.

WOW, Jimmy knows how to play drums to!!!! Jimmy already had the tunes with the guitars, bass recorded. We dumped them on Erick's computer and began the recording process.  Jimmy and I worked on the lyric's and melody's over the summer and came up with some killer tunes that I hope you will enjoy as much as we do.

We worked with Erick as he did the production and as we watched Jimmy playing the drums asking him, why didn't you tell us three months ago that you could play drums! Fucking hilarious.

This was a blast to make and Jimmy, Erick and I will remember the summer of 2016 and how cold it is now January 2017 as I am going tonight to master this CD.
I (Buddy Hughes) am the only original member from the inception of Craving Angel. Working with some of the best people and friends a guy could ask for. Maybe in the future and who knows, maybe all the original members can get together and love, laugh and create another Craving Angel release.

BOTTLE NEXT new album "Bad Horse"

Anneke van Giersbergen's VUUR to tour with Epica late 2017

 

In 2016 renowned Dutch vocalist Anneke van Giersbergen announced the formation of a brand new progressive metal band under the name of VUUR. With their debut album well under way, the band are extremely pleased to announced they will be main support to Dutch symphonic metal band EPICA on The Ultimate Principle tour this coming November in Europe.

Anneke had this to say: "Right after the release of our debut album this fall, VUUR will hit the road on our first European tour as direct support for the mighty EPICA. In the video Anneke reveals that the lyrical content of the album is inspired by the many cities she has visited while being on the road.
Anneke comments: "For a long time I've wanted to make a kind of concept album about the cities we've visited, because we tour so much and see so many countries and cities.  I often have a strong feeling for a city. It can be anything - sometimes I visualize a city as a man or a character, or sometimes something happened in that city and I want to write about that."

Nad Sylvan launches 'The Quartermaster'; first single from new album 'The Bride Said No'




Nad Sylvan, vocalist with Steve Hackett and Agents Of Mercy, has announced the release of his new solo album 'The Bride Said No' for May 26th, 2017. The album sees Nad joined by a myriad of guests including Roine Stolt, Steve Hackett, Guthrie Govan, Tony Levin, Jonas Reingold, Nick D'Virgilio, Doane Perry & more. Now he is pleased to reveal the first single taken from the album, and you can listen to 'The Quartermaster' here: 
 
Nad comments: "Apart from the Vampirate, the widow that turns into a bride again, the ship's cat and the martyr - I felt it was time introduce a new character - namely the self-proclaimed Quartermaster, who pilots the ship into new waters, eventually landing on a desert island."

 In 2015, Nad Sylan impressed everyone with his fine conceptual solo album 'Courting The Widow'. A vampiric tale wrapped in a 17th century atmosphere, this definitively marked out the talented Swede as a surging star in the progressive rock world.
 
Now, Sylvan is back with 'The Bride Said No', an album that continues the fascinating plot, albeit with a far more extravagant musical palette. "I didn't originally have the idea of going on with this story on the new album. But what happened was that I revisited a song called 'The Bride Said No', which I began to write in 1989. I kept a few of the early ideas I had for the verses and also that title, but the rest of the song is brand new. However, the title itself got me thinking that it made sense if this were used in relation to the vampirate character from 'Courting The Widow'. And the whole thing developed from there."
 
On the creative side, what the new album does is to expand Sylvan's horizons, as he explains. "Musically, the previous record was very much located in the 1970s, and you can still hear a little of that here. But this one is a lot more modern sounding and diverse. In fact, I would say it's closer to musical theatre than anything else." 
 
'The Bride Said No' takes what Sylvan has done before and elevates it with a new creative sensibility. He has plans for a final chronicle of this 'vampirate' trilogy. But that's for the future. Right now, we can all revel in the delights of this eight track masterpiece.
"I set out to take things even further than before. I believe I have succeeded."
 
Nad has most recently been seen performing alongside the legendary Steve Hackett as part of his Genesis Revisited with Classic Hackett tour, which continues across the world during 2017.

Vocalist Ross Jennings commented on the releases: "As advocates of the physical format and fellow record collectors, it seems almost criminal that our first two albums have never had a vinyl release until now, so we are thrilled to finally give these albums a fresh presentation on the format they deserve. We have taken this opportunity to polish the sound of our beloved concept albums without going back over every little detail and rewriting history. In essence we wanted to give these albums a chance to stand shoulder to shoulder in sonic quality with "The Mountain" and "Affinity". In addition to this and due to popular demand, both releases will also be available again on CD with instrumental, or "Karaoke" versions of every track. This release marks 10 years since we formed the band and started putting together our first demos so it's a perfect time to reflect on these releases and appreciate what we've achieved so far.
 
The "Aquarius" concept was drawn from conversations about our favourite albums and the way in which the songs flow that make those particular records work. This lead to ideas about having our album be about the flow or journey of water from mountain spring to oceans and evaporation, which in turn lead on to a deeper concept about human life and reincarnation. The themes of water helped us to create aqueous soundscapes and as the music and lyrics started coming together a narrative was formed in the shape of Mermaids & natural disasters. "Aquarius" will always have a special place in our hearts. It's where our journey really began.
 
When writing for "Visions" came around, we set about the process with the same formula, although we hadn't set out to write another concept album at the time. As themes found themselves recurring in the music it only felt right to go in the narrative direction, although this time around we drew from our science fiction influences such as Minority Report and 12 Monkeys and was inspired by real recurring dreams I had been having around the time. It's always a joy to revisit these tracks in our live sets, so much so that we will be performing it in its entirety later this year at ProgPower USA, Atlanta!"
 
Newly remastered by the renowned Jens Bogren (Devin Townsend Project, Between the Buried & Me) both are available as 2CD Digipaks, digital album including the entire albums as instrumentals, and on vinyl, arriving as Gatefold heavyweight 2LP editions with the full album on CD included.
