progressive rock project Purple.
Grander and more ambitious than ever before. The three 27-minute
instrumental tracks chart the human expereince - physical, mental and
spiritual, and embraces styles as far-reaching as rock, folk, jazz,
electronic, acoustic and experimental. Sometimes driving, sometimes
mellow, always original, this album challenges the boundaries between
the mainstream and the progressive with intelligent complexity and
listenable tunes.
Purple is the brainchild of mulit-instrumentalist Dan Hodgson, a man
of diverse musical background and a clear vision - to take the
long-evolving-track instrumental concept album into new vistas of
representation and experimentation, and to produce a coherent and
enjoyable listening experience.
This album starts where Tubular Bells ends, deliberately reminiscent
of 70's prog and crossover prog, with echoes of Camel, Yes and Pink
Floyd in the mix. The soaring melodies and luscious soundscapes can be
enjoyed in many ways: in the dark with a glass of single malt, with
friends on a road trip, or in the headphones while working on a
spreadsheet.
Like the first two albums, BODY:MIND:SPIRIT is being given away free
in an experiment to see if quality music can be recognised without
using the tedious, costly and frankly outmoded process of being
distributed on CD. After all, the internet has to be good for
something!
